Full Version: The Idiot Troll who wasn't:

So, Long story short, I'm making a troll who by all accounts is an idiot. Adopted at a young age by a now dead from natural causes Fixer. The troll has always played dumb to survive, depsite being very smart. Following his adopted mother's death, he inherited her front "Ms. Justen's Para-critter Rescue", along with the sizable debt it took to scrub the books. I'd like him to be a bit of combat monster to play to type, but give him other actual skills. At the moment He's running with Bod 9, Agi 6, Rea 9 (with wired on) and Str of 11. I'd like him to be able to sorta hack for a bit of a WTF moment from the rest of the group. What are your thoughts? What can I cut, what can I up? What bat-shit crazy stuff can I add?

instead of actually Hacking yourself, at this level a tricked out agent can do the same. It'll cost some money instead of karma, but is probably cheaper in the end. You can then, while your agent is working, use an appropriate knowledge skill and explain what you pretend to be doing. All that tech-talk will get you the WTF moment.
The Jopp
I would suggest specialization.

Spoofing and interception can be useful for spoofing drones and commlinks - and your lifestyle.

Hacking - Spoof [1+2] (get higher if you want to)
Electronic Warfare - Communications [1+2] (get higher if you want to)

Spoof Program at 6 and Optimized +2
Stealth Program at 6 and Optimized +2

Get a hermes Icon and upgrade it to 5/5

Get the basic 8 common programs at 4 and have them Ergonomic so that the ones you have running take up no space.

Edit

Other programs at 3 but get NUKE with TARGETING +2 (useful)

Optimize your Commlink for Spoof tests (+1D6)

That's 10D6 for spoof tests with no assistance from any cybernetics or edges with a logic 1 troll.

You have free living (spoof) and can hack small vehicles and less impressive security measures by tracing wireless signals and spoofing them. Wireless interception can be your job too.

Iduno
You might also want to look into a mnemonic enhancer. That and a decent logic means you can get by with 1 rank in a lot of knowledge skills. School of hard knocks, technical school education, etc. can also add to this if you have a lot of 1 type of knowledge.

Depending on how inportant knowledge skills are in your game, the "idiot" could save the team a lot of trouble with useful knowledge.

I'd also suggest the skill Con (Impersonation) so the character actually has some skill in lying and to reflect the "just a dumb troll" aspect, especially when you might happen to say something rather smart so you can deflect the fact that your character is a lot smarter than he lets on.

Maybe also a rating or two in Etiquette, not only so the character can have a grasp of not when to say something, but also to maybe know right when to say something [not too] stupid to help play up the "just a dumb troll" part a little more. Also, it'll make it a lot easier to avoid a case of "athletes tongue".

And for the hacking angle, I'd strongly suggest having more than one commlink. It's Hacking 101, a low grade commlink for your day-to-day stuff, and a higher end commlink (with Spoof Chip, Arsenal page 105; they're not limited to just cars) for all of your black hat duties.

4 out of 5 Shadowrunners heartily approve of a Spoof Chip on everything you own.
(Cyberlimbs, anyone? No more "activate wireless" nanite problems! wink.gif)

Nanites can't "Activate" wireless if you didn't install wireless options originally. Just pay for the non-wireless stuff in the first place.

It's to counter dickish GMs (or dickish players, if it comes to it). wink.gif

I actually took a minor variant of the "Cover" trait for that. Cleared it with the GM as a hyper specialized bluff skill. As long as I play dumb troll, I'm good.

I'll drop another 5k on gear And pic up a second commlink, and a fist full of spoof chips; but I think I'll save the Mnemonic enhancer for during the game. Maybe up my programs a bit more as well.
