Full Version: Has anyone ever run a Dragon campaign?
Dumpshock Forums > Discussion > Shadowrun

I know it was posted as an April fools joke, but I've been asking my group about switching-off with me as GM so I could get a chance to finally play an RPG for a change.

In addition to the standard new-GM's-character-goes-away, old-GM's-character-comes-in, both-GMs-run-the-same-campaign switch-off, my group have also discussed other systems, but then someone suggested the Dragon Campaign.

Using the Dragon rules that CCG published as a joke preview of Runner's Companion.

The more I think about it, though, the more awesome it sounds, especially if all of us are Amnesiac, or something - basically, anything to start out not under the claws of an existing Great, and with no actual attachment to Draconic society. Just to see what happens.

Has anyone ever done this before? Is there anything that needs to be watched out for, or tips/tricks/hints?

Well, maybe a campaign where everyone is either a drake or a latent drake... not quite as cool, I grant you, but not too shabby.

(Screaming about the PCs) "Aah! Dragons!"
(PCs, equally scared) "Dragons?! Where?!"

That should be any Dragon's stock reaction to someone screaming that.

Just because.

I think one of the new books had rules for true drakes tucked away in it. I wanna say it was clutch of dragons, but I might be wrong.

A 'dragon game' could make for an interesting twist; in which the players work for a dragon as opposed to a certain fixer or criminal organization.

What do you mean "true drakes?" Are you talking about Runner's Companion?

Clutch of Dragons page 137 has stats for True Drakes.
Neraph
How do those differ? Are they dracoforms instead of people who can shift forms?
Halinn
True drakes possess all of the modiers from Drake quality (p. 65, Runner’s Companion) with the following changes: True drakes may add the following Powers (by either extending their list of Powers or replacing existing Powers; for each added power, add 5 BP to the base <snip> BP cost): Astral Armor 6, Dragonspeech, Hardened Armor 6, Magical Guard, and Regeneration. True drakes begin with Essence 8, and have a maximum Edge Attribute of 8 regardless of their metahuman form.

Couple of other minor things, but that's most of the differences.
Neraph
Ooooh, shiney. I likey.
Halinn
As an aside, I wonder if the hardened armor 6 would stack with the standard 4, for a decent hardened armor 10.

[sarcasm]Maybe if current products were worth buying, we wouldn't have to! [/sarcasm]

I did not post all of it, and I removed the cost of it. I did not post a playable version of it. Would you have been annoyed if I had posted the Ork base stats in a similar fashion?

How many times has this been done on how many threads? Prices, availabilities, BP-cost for qualities, damage codes, and countless other things are constantly talked about. I knew exactly what the Iron Will was months before I got the book that had it in it. How many times have direct quotes of the rules from the books been stated? There's probably enough posted on these boards to virtually reconstruct the core rules if you had the patience to sift through everything.

I'm practically in one such game now. Only not Shadowrun (using GURPS) and not dragons (we're various magical critters).

I've done that too. I (dragon) dove under the speaker (dragon) when he said, "A dragon!" and pointed at me.
It's amusing once or twice.

Never done ALL dragons.

A single dragon in a regular game worked well enough.

I can't find the thread I did it in - this was around the time the April Fools rules came out - but I constructed a sea dragon archaeologist using the rules and it seemed to come out okay.

An all drake / dragon campaign would be fun...

Was pretty fun game overall, even if it was over quickly. PC Dragon was basically a crappy mage with a high magic stat and low spellcasting skill and a custom human-transformation spell. He could only take his dragon-form outside and doing so made him a target for pretty much everyone's panic-fire. Pretty much never took damage, but he almost got geeked by a single missile.

Coolest event was where he used his own body as a cannonball to knock down a garage door that was shut to prevent our entry.

He and Bear Who Walks Through Walls should get together.
