So Im getting kinda sick and tired of by limited amount of crunch books for SR4, and while Im aware SR5 is around the corner Im considering expanding my collection.
So give me your top 5 (or 3 if you so desire) books that gives the most/best crunch for the buck, and please motivate why.
Currently Im sitting on SR4 core, Arsenal, Augmentation and Street Magic.
English versions.

Runner's Companion, Unwired, Running Wild would complement your collection.

Hm, the local store doesn't seem to have Running wild, at all. What's in it?

All the goofy paracritters that you could ever want, also mundane animals and genetically engineered critters.
EDIT: wrong book.

Runners companion is pretty full of fail. It's not as worthless as unwired, but it isn't really very helpful to offer a new set of totally broken characters types.

Runner's provide a cubic ton of new qualities, increased lifestyle options etc. It's more then worth the asking fee.
and the "broken character options" is completely optional and provide a nice GM tool.

In your opinion. Just because you think it, doesn't make it a hard and 100% true fact.

Interesting, since I am of the opinion that Unwired is awesome, and that Runners Companion is a hell of a resource for players (even if we do not use everything out of it). *shrug*

The above suggestions (
Safehouses is a decent fluff book with some good Lifestyle crunch, I will admit, but it works off of Runner's Companion so you'll need that. Safehouses also includes Santa Claus!)...
And both Runner's Black Books. All the Gear Porn and crunch you could want!

Im not sure my players need more gearporn... They tend to indulge in it. I did love the black book in 3ed although.
Santa Claus? Free spirit?

I tend to think of it as a rough diamond. It sure has a share of stuff that does not work right out of the book (Free Spirits, AIs, In Debt...), but enough other things to make up for it.
And Unwired is pretty much required when playing TMs.

I'm gonna have to go with Runner's Companion, Unwired, the Runner's Black Books, and Safehouses.

The add-ons for more magical shenanigans
Way of the Adept and
Digital Grimoire , para-stuff collections
Parazoology,
Parabotany , stuff and snippet collection
SOTA 2073 and the upcoming Way of the Samurai (presumably, more cyberware and augmentation options) book are also worth a mention.

I really don't like PDFs. Wouldn't be so bad if I had... Say a kindle. But the combination of eyestrain and not being able to flick between pages easily, really kills it for me.

HP makes a wide range of products that allow you to burn images to paper.

Do you know what ink cartridges and printing paper cost?
Even a 60p book pdf is going to set you back more then you paid for the actual book.

That's why I print them out and put them into page protectors and binders.
But I have a laser printer. And am more than slightly insane.

You can also have most copy shops print and bind files. Doesn't cost more than a printed book would cost you.

Less, if you're lucky enough to be a student or know one who can have stuff bound at college for you. I wouldn't recommend Digital Grimoire, it's literally the only book I've never found a use for. Way of the Adept is awesome, but can lead to shenanigans if you don't double check math.
To be honest though, once you've got the core books, I think that Runner's Toolkit is the best investment you can make as far as rounding everything out. It's a wonderful resource for everything, including a book that contains ALL of the tables from the core books for easy reference.

It has the Heightened Concentration adept power, which is quite good. But that's about it, as far as usefulness goes.

Picked up 4a, unwired and running wild today, getting RC once it's back in stock... Didn't realise they changed the cover on books between prints, UW is very green.

They mostly use the German covers for the de-erratized 3rd print run of the books.
Lionhearted
Jan 11 2013, 06:21 PM
de-erratized?
hermit
Jan 11 2013, 06:42 PM
Yes. Errata that were included in the second run were taken out again in the third (redesigned) run. Officially, CGL sent the wrong files to the printers.
Lionhearted
Jan 11 2013, 06:46 PM
Anything major?
Guess I have to print that errata to, no biggie.
