I know that the statistics for Enwontzane (Africain Sasquatch) were included in Critters.

But what was the original source before that?

Cyberpirates, p. 155

read.gif Wish they had a bit more on them than height, weight and that they eat orc sized things or smaller.

Thank you for the fast reply. Unfortunately there does not seem to be any more there than the later Critters book.

Does anyone know if it appeared before that in another source (novel, real legend, etc.)? Or is it just a random critter for Africa?
bannockburn
To my knowledge, the latter. I only remembered because I've looked up a snake that sounded similar a few days earlier ^^

You find anything? On the Crypto cites?
Lionhearted
Nay, to much garbage to sift through. Wouldn't surprise me if there's a myth resembling sasquatch out of Africa though...
Haven't been there in a while, but the FVZA usually had the pulse on such things, worth a look.
Pepsi Jedi
Well there's "Wild men" or "Missing link" myths from every culture.

I wonder if the Enwontzane was supposed to be sapient. The write up doesn't really say.
Lionhearted
It's a reasonable assumption that it would be, if it's related to the squash.
Pepsi Jedi
Well it says

"Enwontzane are nocturnal, arboreal predators similar to the Sasquatch and bandersnatcch. They stand almost three meters tall, weigh more than 400 kilograms and do not carry the HMHVV virus. Native to the forests of costal West Afric, they will feed on anything ork-sized or smaller. They hunt and live in family groups of up to ten and have one infant per year."

And that's it... "Similar" to Sasquatch and Bandersnatch could mean sapient or not, and anything ork sized or smaller could indicate animals and they're just using orcs as a size reference, or metahumans as well. "Family group" Could mean --family-- or it could just be like "Pack" or "Pride" or "Mob" or "Mischief" or what ever. I'm not sure the term for a group of Sasquatch like African critter/things. A group of monkies is a troop....

So the write up is very vague. No description other than tall and heavy.

Far as I'm concerned, in my keeping track of things for HMHVV purposes, I've aslways counted them as Sapient. They can become bandersnatchii if the circumstances come up.

Of course, I have no weight on that, so I could be wrong, but everything I'm thinking right now is thinking that they are. Take that for what it's worth.
Pepsi Jedi
Well one of the few things written about them is "They do not carry HMHVV" so they could not become Bandersnatchii could they?

or is the sentence indicating they're carnivores with out having to be HMHVV infected, and thus can become HMHVV infected and then, Bandersnatchii?
Umidori
Upon reading the entry, I assumed the latter.

That was how I read it. too. It's been a while since I actively thought about the enwontzane.
