That would help to explain the high proportion of headshots that our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan were taking. They actually had to send JAG investigators to make sure that they weren't just straight-up executing captured enemies.

That, or some general is gonna see this, spit his coffee out, and call up DARPA to ask why in the blue blazing fuck his snipers aren't already using this.
CaptRory
Did they figure out why? Is it because the XBOX Generation is in the army now and they reflexively go for headshots? XD

Possibly indirectly.

Training was good enough that soldiers could reliably take headshots, and oftentimes the opposition would only stick their heads up out of cover to get sight at ranges where they felt they were safe from anything except sniper fire.

It's all about the new sights, honestly. Aimpoint and Trijicon completely changed the game in terms of per soldier accuracy. The ability to create successful hits under the stress of combat with these scopes when compared to iron sights is quite literally a quantum leap for the modern soldier.
ShadowDragon8685
psychophipps, a "quantum leap" is a very, very small thing indeed. People keep using the word quantum, but it doesn't mean what most people think it means.

Yeah, but you know what is meant by the term, ShadowDragon8685. smile.gif

Makes sense. Training, Technology, Mentality.
psychophipps
Good point, Shadow. How about, "Allows soldiers to far more expeditiously put the cap to their enemies"? Swapping to human-zhaped targets greatly helped as well.

The third one is the really important one. Without it, nothing else matters.
CaptRory
Indeed~

All the fancy technology in the world can't help if you're not mentally prepared and willing to pull the trigger with killing intent. There were some interesting studies done about that after WW2.
