Interesting how often it comes up, in life and in fiction.

Why are people getting so pissed off over these toy drones? whats next ,Smashing up peoples R/C cars?
Sendaz
When it is just a drone? not much concern

When it is a drone with a camera popping over fences or looking through windows, it tends to be of concern.

Or when an idiot flies a drone into a plane's airspace, like in Tallahassee, yeah it can be a problem.
Fabe
Yeah that is a alright point. but just up and destroying some else's property just because it might have a camera and it might peak in your room is bullshit. It would be like grabbing someones smart phone and smashing it because they might record you . I think what it really comes down to is people getting freaked out by new technology and maybe the fact that most drones people are familiar with are the ones they hear about on the news carrying out missile strikes.
Sendaz
Yes and No.

Edit: While we will be wrestling with privacy for a while yet, and your point about the mobile phone camera is a good point, that will be a long running issue and really how expensive are some curtains? nyahnyah.gif

However, in the cases of airliner airspace (drones are not supposed to go over 400 ft and this one was at 2300 ft in the flight path as well as being within the 5mile 'no fly without alerting FAA' zone so they had no good reason to be there-to this day they still do not know whose drone that was) or hanging out around the French Reactors where they are clearly in an area they are not supposed to be they can and should be brought down. The system is not designed to be scouring the whole countryside, but rather set up at defensive points. The intruding drone has to enter their region to trigger the response.

Plus while you are going on about destroying property, note the string in one motor forces the drone to land as it no longer has sufficient lift and while it may be damaged in a rough landing, many will survive the bump. This is not being shot down out of the sky with AA ammo.

I would rather people just be nice and respect one another and their space, but we have seen how well that idea works out.

Your signature is very applicable to this thread.

Another aspect is that in many parts of the world filming someone without their knowledge is a criminal offense (usually minor though) as is viewing within someone's home or residence without their permission.

Of course, what will happen is that drones will become illegal for private citizens, while at the same time it will be made illegal to interfere with drones. That way everybody wins.
