On page 14 of the New Seattle book, it says that there is an actual sapient critter called the munchkin, and that some of them live in Seattle. What the hell is a munchkin, and where can I find the rules to play one? For that matter, where can I find rules to play any kind of sapient critter, such as neodolphins, sasquatches, and nagas? I'd like to play a dolphin decker like Jones from Johnny Mnemonic.

I play a chicken that's actually a GM-allowed cosmetic modded dwarf.
I could concievably make any 'awakened critter' with one template and enough surge flaws/edges, tho...

A munchkin is a sapient, annoying ape-like paracritter described fully in Paranormal Animals of North America. Aside from being a pain in the ass and having an unusual dietary requirement, they're actually immortal.
Ehran the Scribe has a host of munchkins he's trained as butlers.

I'm not sure if it's as much immortal as blessed with incredible regenerative powers bordering on the ability to respawn, AH.

Oh, I /am/ sorry. THe wodewose is the immortal para-ape, the munchkin just has thermographic vision and a language. Damn but it's hard to keep the details straight at times.

A kind GM could probably tweak the Shapeshifter rules from SRComp and make rules for playing sentient paracritters. I did for our campaign, and we let someone play a young western dragon ala Damian from the Dot6W book. That character is a lot of fun, and *far* from immortal. She's taken deadly wounds twice already, once through a combination of draconic hubris ("I'm a dragon, you can't hurt me!") and a double-tap from a BF Franchi Spas with EX. That combined with the immense roleplaying opportunies, the need to keep her identity a secret, and the need to not step on any other dragon's business.... she's very much in-balance for a mildly high-level campaign. The 200-karma street sam keeps up with her just fine.

[I'm sorry, I couldn't resist...]
A munchkin is an annoying, ape-like critter with superb math skills and selective memory. It is near immortal, and excels at the field of its choice. However, it has a dangerous lack of common sense, social skills and concern for its fellow player.
It is closely related to the Power gamer, and Number cruncher.

On a random note, what do you think Steve Irwin's karma pool is?

We'll find out in 2063, won't we? Muahahahaha!...

How did I know someone with a flare for obvious jokes would say that?
I too would like to play a paracritter in a game. You know what would be neat? A no humans game. No human or metahuman PCs whatsoever. Just critters. Blackberry cats, storm dolphins, sasquatches, munchkins, nagas, oracle owls, and maybe even a shapeshifter to represent the group to any humans they need to talk to. Of course, the group wouldn't be shadowrunners. Maybe eco-terrorists, sabotaging factories that pollute a lot and attacking trawling ships and oil rigs.

Kin, obviously, since he's named after munching them.

Molybdenum was probably picked by the game designers because a) you hear about it every now and then as a "limiting nutrient" (and compared to other common limiting nutrients, it's more exotic than Nitrogen, and less, shall we say, prone to abuse, than Phosphorus) and b) it has a funny name (it's one of my favorite elements, anyhow).

Molybdenum seems to be an ideal candidate for munchkin bone lacing.

Of course, it would have to be a ninja physad when you munched it.
Because ONLY then would you have Real Ultimate Power.

Molybdenum. You get to argue over pronounciation.
