We're all intimately familiar with the Renraku Arcology, and some with the aqualogy under the pacific, if I'm right, but what about other corps? Corp Download mentions that Cross Applied Tech has no arcologies, but do any other corps? And where, if they do?

All the firms in Berlin had or have Arcologies.

Famous ones: Arkoblocks of Proteus AG (there's quite a few of them, in Germany, Denmark, Fiji, Africa, near Vancouver, and sea of Japan), SK and Novatech have arcologies in Rhine-Ruhr Megaplex, assuming Novatech scored Fuchis during the Corp War. This is noted in the old Germany Sourcebook.

SoE more or less states that most of the corps use Arcologies in Europe, with only a few exceptions.

Those are the only ones off the top of my head.

Makes sense. I'm assuming there are so many Europe arcs because of space/territory issues? Easier to build up than out?

Right in one. I semi recently got to see modern day Berlin. Stayed at a youth hostel. To illustrate how bad the need for space is, the building where the youth hostel was was around 12 stories. Of these 12, Floors 5-7 & 3 were 1) psychological practice, 2) child care, 3) private apartments. This is also not atypical for space in a big city. Most apartment blocks are at least that many floors.

The Question Man
I think this is a job for ANCIENT HISTORY!!!

QUOTE (Corporate Download)
Ares Macrotechnology (p.40) The majority of Ares employees may not grow up and live within an Ares corporate enclave...

Aztechnology (p.50) Aztechnology prefers to keep its employees grouped nicelytogether (and in their control) in arcologies or smaller corporate enclaves called castillos ("castles"). though castillos are not completely self-sufficient, they contain almost all the basic living and entertainment necessities.

Cross Applied Technologies (p.55) CATCo has no arcologies, but it does attempt to provide encapsulated and self-sufficient communities for its workers, usually in proximity to their actual workplace. Preferring a more open-air and decentralized architectural style, these enclaves are adequately described as "housing parks."

Mitsuhama Computer Technologies (p.64) My family shopped at a compay store, and we lived in company housing, usually in a nice private neighbourhood with playgrounds and streets. Sometimes it was an apartment complex, but it was always nice, clean, safe, and quiet.

Novatech (p.73) Novatech has no arcologies, but does group its corporate citizens in self-susteinable enclaves. In several locations, Novatehc residential compounds are for all practical pruposes working compounds, as a significant percentage of employees work via the Matrix.

Renraku Computer Systems (p.80) Renraku follows the standard Japanacorp procedure of encouraging lifetime commitment from its employees. It favors arcologies as a way of cheaply and efficiently integrating the personal lives of its workers with the corporate routine.

Saeder-Krupp (p.90) Like every megacorp, S-K provides husing, schooling, entertainment and all the ammenitiesfor its corporate citizens. It only has a few arcologies such as the imposing structure that houses its corporate headquarters in Essen. Without exception, S-K enclaves are well protected and isolated; Lofwyr knows the value of keeping outside influences away from his employees.

Shiawase ?

Wuxing (p.109) Wuxing doesn't have the same kind of "closed" corporate culture that a lot of the Japanacorps have. There really aren't any Wuxing-owned arcologies or housing developments (not yet, anyway). [...] Of course, as Wuxing grows, I suspect you'll see more and more company-run support systems. Wuxing's "openness" can leave some valuable employees vulnerable, and they're learningg a lot of the same lessons that led the Japanacorps to build arcologies.

Yamatetsu (p.117) Yamatetsu has always been a quiet little keiretsu, obeying traditional Japanese precepts of caring for workers and families. like other megacorps, Yamatetsu builds self-contained enclaves for its employees, each oen complete with school, non-denominational churches, strip malls, daycare facilities, and Crashcart clinics.

There are references to Shiawase's enclaves, buit nothing really precise. However it owns at least one mini-arcology in Bochum according to Deutschland in der Schatten II, the one previously owned by Fuchi Pan-Europa (since Novatech was build essentially with assets from Fuchi America and Fuchi Orbital, while Shiawase got Fuchi Pan-Europa).

Appreciate the help guys, really. My group will thank you.

Another question; the Renraku Arcology in Downtown is absolutely ginormous. Are all Arcologies quite that big, or are most about half or a quarter that size? Or is there any reference in Canon?
BitBasher
Well a true arcology has to be huge, because they are designed to be able to cut themselves off from the world and sustain themselves without outside help. That takes a LOT of infrastructure. The Renraku arcology is not the biggest arcology, either.

IIRC, the Renraku Arcology is described in the Seattle Guide as the ninth tallest building in the world. So there are some building taller, and a lot more who are smaller.

Shiawase's Seattle offices consist of twin towers. No joke. p.95, New Seattle.

the Renraku Arcology may only be the 9th tallest building in the world, but the base area on that thing is freaking HUGE. I know a pyramid is only 1/3rd base times height, but still, that has got to be the largest single building in the world.
Synner
Let's put it this way. The Renraku Arcology at capacity would have supported maybe 500.000. One of Proteus arcs is designed to accomodate 3 million (although its largely unoccupied).

As big as it is, no. It may be in the top 10 as far as floor space, but I don't have anything to back that up. I know it isn't close to the biggest.

[edit] as the poster above me just pointed out.

But not arcologies. What makes this noteworthy, and why would we think it a joke?

And let me reiterate that the Arc (there are many arcs, but there's only one The Arc) is fragging huge.
