thats a good question actually. i would say yes, since you are Primarily using the whip to attack in this case

There is still a penalty for using the weapon in his off hand unless he has ambidexterity. But yes this is a good question. I will add input later.

For now I think he would have to learn the special skill of off hand whip if he is not ambidextrous and he would suffer the off hand penalties to TN. I would also like to give him a penalty for firing in a melee +2 TN for each opponent that charged and engaged him if he intends to use his gun for anything other than a club. Do I think he can reverse the primary handedness for the melee only? Not without ambidexterity, probably 6 or better. These are just first thoughts.

It's a cool and Indiana Jones like idea, but a pistol makes a poor club. A Rifle used as a club does something like Str+1 M (or possibly +2 M) Stun. Rifles are the size of a baseball bat, at least. A pistol's melee damage would be pretty low. Str M perhaps. That's the same as unarmed.

Made sense to me. The pistol is only for desperation, I also carry a crowbar. Basically, I got a free monofilament whip and plan to raise my off-hand whips higher than my club skill. Only use both when I plan for HTH, which isn't very often. Although, as it has been pointed out, the choice of second weapon matters only for skill dice, not damage or effectiveness.
