I'm looking to see what people feel the community needs, and how I can help, because I'd really like to be able to supply something that is useful.

hmmm, floor plan bank is winning... my least favorite option. Go figure. No one for other?

I've already got some maps put up, so that's probably covered anyway (though I need to A) actually make a page and B) start putting more plans up).

I was thinking I might combine a floor plan bank with a stock character array....

A stock character bank or floorplan bank has the advantage of being fairly universal (who doesn't want time saving access as a GM), whereas house rules are just that--other folks' house rules.

Ditto for the custom settings. Truth to tell, the web is kind of oversaturated with pages that have people's house rules or campaign worlds. Things like adventure scenarios, archetypes, generic npc's, and maps are much more generally useful to people.
But if you are doing a web page, you want to make sure that it is something you enjoy doing. The rest of us may or may not visit it even once, but you are the one who will be typing, coding, etc. So if you are going to invest your spare time into this project, pick something that excites you. For instance, if I ever got the spare time and the energy to put up a site, a good part of it would probably be archetypes and sample characters, because I love working up characters (as you can probably tell by all of the characters I have posted whenever there is a "make a character" thread).
y'know what'd be truly useful? a good index, including material from all of the books. first priority would be organizing entries for the SR3 core books, of course; after that, entries from SR3 peripheral, then SR2 peripheral, then SR1 peripheral, then SR2 and 1 core.

Given my habet of taking a weak+ to generate a character a stock NPC base would be very useful when I start running SR games. Running D&D I rarely have anything between numbers in my head and fully fleshed out NPCs (and I don’t do that often because thy have a nasty habit of dying)

Stock NPCs and Floor plans it is! wo-ha. I love doing stock NPCs... I'll keep the stories pretty general, but I'll map out gear, skills, attribs and maybe throw in a little fluff. I'll have to rank them by uberity though.

I tend to think that adventure sketches/synopsis could be a great addition:a lot of GM would be glad to have somewhere to pick ideas when they get writer's block or whenever they lack time to write a good run...
you can get that in MJLBB. there's a run generator in it, that provides the bare bones of a run for you.

I still vote for elf porn. I think that adds a lot of... atmosphere to the game.
Failing that, BIG floor plans that can easily be broken up into small floorplans. Unusual stuff, aircraft carriers, secret bases, stuff like that.

Sorry, I had to put my vote in for the floorplan bank... I have a website full of adventure hooks, but I loathe doing up maps for them.
Having a database full of maps would cut my time down immensely when I'm making up new runs....

if anyone mentions interracial, you're all so dead.
Okay, Looks like floorplannery is winning by about a mile and two trolls, so I'll start working on that. I'm going to start with a few corporate targets, anyone have some suggestions or maps they want\need?

How about the Arc?
(just kidding)
One thing you might want to thing about is format.
Personally, I love Visio, but without access to it or the viewer, it becomes a lot less useful (the html creation is cool and all, but without layer control it can be a pain)

.jpg, actually. these will be simple printable floorplans, for real PnP use. A complex interface only makes a map clumsy.

Shadowrun.de has a slew of floorplans, including vehicle plans and such. The titles are in German, but if you look at the file name, you get an idea of what the map is.

Zenmaxer,
Check out
http://www.blogeasy.com/. It provides free web hosting and blog tools. If you're planning on having regular postings/updates, a blog sounds like the proper format, especially if it has a search feature (don't know if Blogeasy's does, tho).

I'd be glad to. I'll send over the info shortly. Just let me know if and when you're going to start using more than a hundred megs or so.
One detail: would you want to take over /Maps/ , or start afresh with your own empty directory of joy?

Perhaps PDF scans of out-of-print maps from Sprawl Sites & other books?
Zenmaxer
Oct 13 2004, 12:55 AM
That'd be copyright violation, much as I might like to do so.
One of the reasons I want to do this is to provide a certain bit of commonality for GMs, much like the SR missions have done. Something tested, durable, and familiar that can be used to spice a game up or as common ground throughout many different campaigns.

No, Zenmaker, I mean an OFFICIAL release, with full permission from the copyright holders for them to be released in PDF.
