Full Version: The Night Chicago Died
Dumpshock Forums > Discussion > Shadowrun
Ancient History
Daddy was a 'runner
On the East Side of Chicago
Back in Ares' pay
Back in the bad old days

In the heat of a summer night
In the land of the dollar bill
When the town of Chicago died
And they talk about it still

When a bug named Mama Roach
Tried to make that town her own
And she called her hive to war
Against the forces of the law

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Chummer, what a night it really was
Chummer, what a fight it really was
Glory be

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Chummer, what a night the people saw
Chummer, what a fight the people saw
Yes, indeed

And the sound of the battle rang
Through the streets of the old East Side
'Til the last of the buggy gang
Had surrendered up or died

There was shouting in the street
And the sound of running feet
And I asked someone who said
'Bout a hundred troops are dead

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Chummer, what a night it really was
Chummer, what a fight it really was
Glory be

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Chummer, what a night the people saw
Chummer, what a fight the people saw
Yes, indeed

Then there was no sound at all
But the footsteps in the hall
Then the door burst open wide
And my daddy stepped inside
And he kissed my momma's face
Then brushed her gun away

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Chummer, what a night it really was
Chummer, what a fight it really was
Glory be

I heard my momma cry
I heard her pray the night Chicago died
Chummer, what a night the people saw
Chummer, what a fight the people saw
Yes, indeed

The night Chicago died
The night Chicago died
Chummer, what a night it really was
Chummer, what a fight it really was
Glory be

The night Chicago died
The night Chicago died

Aw, thanks. Gee, and this was one of my "I'm going to go a little insane now." moments. rotate.gif

You know that we don't necessarily need confirmation of that fact, but the results of it are always welcome. biggrin.gif

Ha! Let's see him try that with Britney's Toxic or Enminem's Just Lose it!

I can just see the MTVs now....

That was excellent AH, I hope to see more of this.

M&M's song is a parody of itslef. as for Toxic, who'd know. she's so synthed on that I can't follwo the real lyrics. A parody only really works if you know the osng that's being parodied.

Of course having said that, Paper lace? What you couldn't find all the lyrics for "Ruben Clemso and his strange daughter in the key of C?" (cookie for the person who can identify that singer, same period as AH's song.)
Fortune
Paper Lace's version of TNCD was a top ten hit at the time ... and the song is quite famous in and of itself, having been covered a few times.

If you are refering to Arlo Guthrie's 'Ruben Clamzo and his Strange Daughter in the key of A' ... then I know. biggrin.gif

ah, Well we'll do it in the key of C for Cookie
or
maybe in the key of G for "Gee, I hope that giant clam don't see me.
or
mayber in the key of F for "He sees me."
