Full Version: Who's best for the role of "The Foreigner" ?
Dumpshock Forums > Discussion > Shadowrun
Foreigner
I guess the title says it all, Chummers.

I know this isn't strictly SHADOWRUN-related, but the earlier threads regarding superpowered characters (such as the one about adapting "Spider-Man" to SR) got me to thinking:

Which of the current crop of actors would be best for the role of "The Foreigner", if the character were ever to appear in a future SPIDER-MAN feature film?

Please keep in mind that the character is an Englishman of Mediterranean ancestry (dark complexion, brown hair and eyes), about six feet, two inches tall and 180 to 240 pounds (1.88 meters and 82 to 109 Kilograms), and approximately 35 to 50 years of age.

He's also a master of several martial arts disciplines, a master of disguise, and is knowledgeable in the use of most forms of hand weaponry--firearms, bows, and swords at least.

As always, all responses will be sincerely appreciated.

And please, no flames. nyahnyah.gif I'm just curious what your opinions might be. wink.gif

You're right, this has nothing to do with Shadowrun.
FrostyNSO
Juoquin Phoenix?
Fortune
Why do you have two threads about this (non-Shadowrun) subject ... or even one for that matter?
Fortune
And I still say Hugh Grant. biggrin.gif
Foreigner
Sorry, folks. frown.gif

My bad.

Guess I let my fingers outrun my brain again.... nyahnyah.gif

Not to pee in your wishing well or anything, but - who the heck is the Foreigner?
Fortune
The Foreigner is a character from a comic (that I have never read). biggrin.gif
DrJest
That much I knew smile.gif

I'm familiar with the major Spiderman villains - Doc Ock, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Venom, Scorpion, Sandman, etc - and a few of the non-villain "NPC's" for want of a better term - but i've never heard of this Foreigner bloke.

Which, actually, suggests he might not be the best choice for inclusion in a movie, but that's just me.
Fortune
He isn't a Spidey regular ... or even irregular. As far as I know, they aren't even in the same universe.
Mercer
What really annoys me more than anything is the "That would be telling" quote is directly lifted from The Prisoner. Can we just attribute stuff to whoever said it last? Can I say, " 'I think, therefore I am'-- My father"?
Ol' Scratch
People pointed that out the last time Foreigner created threads like this about a year ago. That, or I'm having some serious deja vu about this whole thing.

Deja vu. It happens when they've changed something.

No kidding, Doc. This happened before. Afterall, those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Meh, it seems like Foreigner is the only one that has a jones about this comic character. I couldn't care less if he even appears a Spiderman flick. I'm more concerned (if at all) about Carnage or Venom.

Actually, no I don't care at all. I don't even know why I responded to this.

To make the thread seudo-valid:

Spider-man could appear in a Shadowrun movie or comic book (if one were to exist) and apptly be manabolted to death upon arrival, completely negating any further SR threads relating to a non SR spiderman talk.

My 9th grade history teacher Mr. Trevino said that.

Quickly! The agents are coming, get out! You can do it, Trinity.

biggrin.gif Yeah, and the Foreigner and those pesky Agents will get manabolted and Attack programed to hell when they show up.
Foreigner
Alright Already!

I get the point!

My mistake. I shouldn't have posted it here.

Sorry, folks.

Hey man. Take it easy. Everyone (well almost everyone) is joking. smile.gif

Just laugh it off and remember next time. wink.gif
Foreigner
No offense taken, Fortune (or anyone else).

I guess I'm just not used to it when anyone (besides me, I mean nyahnyah.gif ) makes a joke at my expense.

Ah, well, live and learn. wink.gif

You know what they say about Foreigners and their sense of humor. And accents.
And the way they stink up the cab.
And the stinky lunches. And the facial hair.
And the non SR related posts.
And that some foreigner chicks are pretty hot. Rawr

I seemed to have lost track of where I was going with this.

Anyways. Someone revoke Foreigner's SIN and Diplomatic Immunity and deport him to the nearest Triple Max Slam, and turn up the Astral Warp incase he has any mojo powers.

Ladies and Gents:

Okay, I admit that I got a little (okay, a lot nyahnyah.gif ) carried away.

Unfortunately, my only other real roleplaying experience to date was in sci-fi
(classic TRAVELLER) and espionage (the original TOP SECRET) RPGs, and that was all nearly 20 years ago--prior to joining an SR campaign via AOL Instant Messenger, I hadn't played since mid-1986.

The comic-book character "The Foreigner" was the closest character that I could find that fit the character template I was developing--a master assassin with pseudo-magical abilities (near-superhuman reflexes and strength, and the ability to hypnotize people simply by making brief eye contact), as well as high-level skills in the martial arts, disguise, and most forms of hand weaponry).

Mercer: To address your post specifically, it was previously brought to my attention that the Foreigner's trademark catchphrase, "That would be TELLING", was lifted in its entirety from the opening credit dialogue sequence of THE PRISONER. I didn't know that at the time, having never seen so much as a single episode of the show, but I heard the title theme from that series on Radio@AOL's "TV Themes" channel a few months ago, and finally understood the reference. smile.gif

Again, my apologies if I offended anyone.
