What is the difference between the Makeover and Fashion spells??
Can you use a Makeover spell to change/convert a characters clothing like the Fashion spell does??
If so why would you learn the Fashion spell in the first place??
I am thinking of using this for a master of disguise type character to change his clothes at a moments notice without having to use a Physical Mask spell which you have to sustain.
Thanks for the help.

Dude man, you posted this in the wrong section. This is Welcome to the Shadows, its for the onlinge games. You should have posted in the other section where they actually answer questions. Please try again (but not in this section).

And to answer your question, no, Makeover doesn't change clothing, it just cleans them really. Maybe brighten the colors, starch the collars etc, but the clothes remain the same as they were. Just like your Human wouldn't look like an Elf after a makeover, your clothes won't change appearance. They'll just look better.

Also keep in mind that the Force of the Fashion spell must equal or exceed the Armor Rating of the clothing to be altered.
I usually take all three 'style spells' ... Fashion, Makeover, and Healthy Glow. The latter two don't need to be taken at a high Force though.

According to the
Errata, the Drain code for Fashion is only +1 (L). So it is essentially a limited version of the Makeover spell, which specifically
states that clothing is included in the change.
So why would a mage take it instead of, or in addition to, the makeover spell? Any number of reasons. They may want a lower-Drain spell if they are only interested in changing clothing, and not the rest of it; just like some mages take the ram spell, which is a limited version of powerbolt. Also, there is one
big difference between the two spells - the fashion spell can be used on an
involuntary target, letting you create your very own "wardrobe malfunctions".

I keep making this mistake, too, but the spell description says the combined armor ratings can't exceed the Force of the spell +1/2 successes. The TN is 6, so don't count on getting more than a success or two. During downtime would be a good time to try altering the look of high rating armor.

Interesting. If that's the case (and from a literal reading it seems to be), then there is even less of a reason to take the Fashion spell, since Makeover has no Force restrictions whatsoever in regards to Armor Ratings (or anything else for that matter). The Force 1 Makeover spell is much better than a Force 6 Fashion spell, and is all you'd ever need to accomplish everything you want (as long as the subject is willing). You could even lower the drain code to +1(L) by adding the personal restriction.
I've always treated Makeover as freshening up and cleaning clothing, and otherwise generally cleaning and polishing the subject (since it lists it as being similar in effect to using a Beauty Salon), whereas Fashion makes permenant alterations to the clothing's style.

If you allow Makeover to have the same effect as Fashion, then you have to let Makeover have the same effect as Mask.

Makeover will spruce your Secure Armour Jacket up, clean it and press it.
Fashion will make it look like this year's hot release from Vashon Island.

Makeover also helps with hair and make up. basically if you like your cloths but got back form a run or just a long day and have to go out again, it helps freshen you up when you can't take the time to do it properly.

That's what I'm saying. I do not think it is anything like the Fashion spell, as Glyph is asserting.

So remember, Sentinel, nobody will answer questions here, so make sure to rewrite this question in the actual question section. Sheesh.

I figured one of the Admins would have moved this thread to the proper section by now.
This begs the question, of course -- how many seriously warped shadorunners ever brought an insanely high-level fashion spell along to turn the opposing trolls security armor into a heavily armored pair of purple thongs, getting free, unarmored shots at the rest of the body?

Just the newbies that didn't understand SR uses an abstract armor system and that ploy would have no effect. Now changing it into a straight jacket, that would be helpful. Or reversing his camo pattern, or...

Nah, just remove the flexible joints.
Let's see the ginger-bread brigade make called, aimed shots now against moving targets
