Is that a release date kind of release date, or is it an SOE, DotSW kind of release date?

How would they find someone to staff the FanPro booth at Gen Con if there aren't any SR4 books to sell? There are much more comfortable ways to die...
Like self-immolation.

Are you joking, or still insisting the whole thing is a hoax?

Figure at least 4 to 6 weeks after the prerelease. I'm guessing Gencon is going to be a fastrun print right off the press and general pressing will take place and be shipped maybe 4 to 6 weeks later. That's how it worked last summer.

Having a hard target (Gencon) will hopefully help ensure it doesn't slip. I just hope that they don't end up pressed for time and put out something that hasn't had enough editing time.

a lot of it depends on the printers. SOTA:64 was supposed to come out a GCIndy 04, but the printers screwed the pooch.

I'm sorry, that's not really how it works

All of the first print run of books are printed at the same time, but it's typically trivial to ship a few hundred books direct from the printer to the show, as opposed to the normal cycle of printer -> warehouse -> distributors -> stores.
It's a "hard" release date; we do it or die trying.

Does that mean we can have all your stuff if you fail?

No, I think he means that if they fail we can kill them.
Realistically, it'd be pretty awful for the SR booth at GenCon to be focused almost if not actually entirely around the release of SR4--and the books are stuck at the printers.
So long money, reputation, and any chance of good will.

And hello Gencon's first ever riots!

I really can't imagine a riot at a rpg convetion. Nerds gone crazy?

Beaten to death with hardcover bbb... what a awful death.

it'd be a scene out of Braveheart, if last year's GC is any indication. i've never in my life seen such a large collection of skirts.

I wonder if there has been any thought as to whether or not there will be a limited edition version of this edition like there was with 3rd edition. I was so upset that I missed my chance at one of those nifty books.
I hope, if they do decise to do a limited edition release at GenCon, they'll give us some advanced warning. I've yet to be to a con (any con), but would find a way to get there if that were the case.

Well, the German translation's scheduled for October. I don't think FanPro will miss the "Spielemesse" in Essen / Germany. That's the biggest games fair in Europe. They simply can't afford missing this date. On the other hand this could easily lead to such a bugy BBB like the German SR 3. We all know this phenomenon from computer games.

Rushing something out the door to meet a close in deadline is tough. Its easy to have things fall through the cracks. I'd rather they took their time and got it right the first time.
I'm looking forward to this edition greatly and I'd like to see it done well.

We're five months from Gencon still, and they've been working on SR4 for over a year. Rushing is relative.
