I would say no, on the grounds that it is a mobile thing, too ephemeral to have much of a spirit of place. It would have a spiritual reflection, but not a hearth spirit as such.
pbangarth
OK. Thx.
pbangarth
Not a lot Blue can do with data files and figuring out patterns, but I guess he can default to Intelligence. So, once we get to the point where the two of them can sit down to look a the data from the police, he'll give it a shot.

Hmmm. Time to ask Owl? Hmmm.
Bastard
I am still around. I got another 2-3 weeks of turnaround before I am back to a normal work schedule.
pbangarth
Let's hope DS is still around. It's been pretty flaky lately.
Bastard
Back to normal life, back to dumpshock!

It has been a crazy summer!
[ Spoiler ]

I went back, trying to figure out where we are at. Here is what I got.

Job offer from Jaxx:
  • Why exactly has MaChef's stock price been falling when they've been expanding?
  • MaChef's has multiple locations, multiple franchisees, yet their stock price is at 30% of its peak.
  • He suspects that there's something funny about the finances

What we have learned:
  • Targeted acts of vandalism on various locations.
  • Have not determined any patterns.
  • Vandalism performed by street gangs.
  • Vandalism has stopped, but stock has not recovered.

What is our gameplan?
  1. Review data from Hogan.
  2. Interview owners and managers of affected locations and try to get CCTV footage, if they still have it.
  3. Determine if there are any patterns.
  4. Determine if there are any suspects.
  5. Determine if there are any parties benefiting.

Anything else?
pbangarth
Works for Blue.

Sounds like life was interesting. Be glad that life outside of gaming actually exists for you.

I've been busy with sheepdog trials. Competing, training, practising. A couple more trials here in Ontario, and the season is over.
pbangarth
Man, Blue is so not the right character I play to deal with this kind of research. The closest skill he has to anything useful is Corporate Culture.

What the hey:

Corporate Culture 1 die:

Huh. Can't get through to Orokos. Will try later. Leaving this post in so I show I am trying to do something!
Koekepan
It's cool. When Orokos is back up, roll it in and I'll give you your wisdom.
pbangarth
Alright. Corporate Culture 1 die:2

Yeah, at least it isn't a glitch.
Bastard
Maybe playing out your glitch will spark Karma's actions. biggrin.gif
Koekepan
It's obvious. Voltsev ordered all of this to get a tax write-off, and then buy the stock back at bargain rates.
pbangarth
Hey! That was my first thought! Look! Look! I was right!
Bastard
I guess I don't have to go watching a bunch of sec trids now.
pbangarth
Are we waiting for me to do something?
pbangarth
Dumpshock back ... for now. The Dawn of the Artifacts group I play in abandoned Dumpshock and moved to Myth Weavers because of the interruptions to service.
Koekepan
I hate to say it, but ... they may begin to have a point, no matter how much my implants twitch at the thought.
pbangarth
Yeah, I have been on DS a long time. In fact, I am the 10th highest poster of all time on this site. I'd feel a real loss if I abandoned it altogether.
pbangarth
Quick! Post something before DS goes down again!
pbangarth
Heh. Out and back again.

So, has this story drifted into oblivion, or should we bring it back to life, here or in another forum?
Koekepan
I'm starting to think of this as the Great Crash of '25.

I am not sure what's going on, but I've been mostly unable to connect, getting various database errors reported, if anything. Mostly nothing, honestly.

At any rate, we can try to make an alternative plan through the haze.
pbangarth
The Dawn of the Artifacts campaign I joined here has moved to Myth Weavers. Stable so far and we can still use Orokos for dice. Facility for including pictures in a post, though I don't know how to do that yet.

I don't know enough of the site to know how easy it is to set up a campaign there.
Koekepan
I'm vaguely balancing that with the prospect of using Discord, which has some suitable features too.
pbangarth
Yeah, the Artifacts campaign is using both, with Discord as more of a conversational, off topic space; though discussion of in-game things goes on as well, like posts saying "Posted IC" or talk about why player X quit and did he have good reason to do so.

The Myth Weavers site does allow for compartmentalization of OOC, IC, character sheets, etc. I don't know how much Discord can do in that regard.
Koekepan
That's pretty easy in Discord.
In fact they have a number of options including threads and their take on forum posts (which is really a misnomer).
pbangarth
So maybe we should have a meeting about a possible move. Hey, Bastard. You haven't posted in about two months. You still with us?
Bastard
Everyone is back. I didn't see activity most of September, then I got busy with life, and hadn't checked back in.

I will probably be able catch up after Thanksgiving. Got a lot going on with life, the universe and everything.

Koekepan
I don't know how "back" everyone is. I still have bursts of consecutive days where I can't reach Dumpshock at all.

Same for me.
Koekepan
OK, this time I hope that I'm back long enough for a posting.

I am strongly considering a Discord venue for the game.

Yea/Nay? Should I post a link here? Any questions, comments or concerns?
pbangarth
I'm in a game that is using Myth Weavers for IC and OOC posts, and Discord for more OOC, pictures, non-game, etc. Discord seems to be more immediate. That game has players spread across 10 time zones, so communication among the players is a bit drawn out.

Anyway, I've been using Discord for texting. It seems pretty stable. I would go for it.
pbangarth
Well, DS seems to have settled down. Let's motor while the motoring is good. Worse comes to worst, Blue can check out how Madel is doing, right?
pbangarth
Shall I do a side trip to see how Madel is doing? And then, go see how the little girl is faring in the midst of her mother's affair with the ?racist? ? magist? magician?
Koekepan
You certainly could take sidetrips now if you wanted to.

The question is which one chiefly occupies your mind.
pbangarth
Bastard, things look to be pretty heavy for you right now. You wanna take a break while I get Blue to do a few side trips?

We could just say we both get home to mull things over, and then Blue could head out from there. Check on Madel. Check on the girl (after going back through past posts to remember what Blue learned there before).
pbangarth
Actually, it could be much more secure if Karmakaze could just be a getaway driver in her car while Blue astrally projects from there. I'm trying to figure out the best way to return to the girl's home. Worked my way through plans A, B and rejected them. Now onto plan C.
pbangarth
Actually, here's a question for the GM. Rather than trying to go back through the posts to answer this, I'll just ask. Does the house in which Billy's niece lives have a front porch, or stoop, or a couple of steps up at the front? And would that be considered enough of the 'house' domain to be able to summon a hearth spirit there?

If so, maybe Blue can get some answers that way.

As an aside, those sparkly little things around the girl could appear to Blue as protectors, and to the Children of Purity dude as well. He could call them parasites to get mom to support his efforts to remove the protectors from the girl he wants to seduce to the dark side.

Just thinking.
Koekepan
Steps, landing, front door. However, the overhang that shelters the front door would extend the hearth domain, so that you could perform a summoning there.

Excellent! Thanks.
pbangarth
Looking forward to what appears at the front door.

The labrador whines a bit. It tries to nuzzle Blue's hand, and then responds: :::I know them. I know them well. They are parasites, and distractions. Fleas and flies. They infest this region greatly, and seek to feed on what stands.:::

Whoa.

That opens up a whole new can of worms. I can't help but wonder whether the nasty, little fairy things are akin to the Karens infesting the body politic.

Thinking some.
pbangarth
Oh, and thank you. I appreciate that you didn't nail me to the wall for that open ended question I asked of the hearth spirit. After I posted it, I feared it would give Blue a detailed description of how spirits work, the different classes of them, etc.; hour after hour ad nauseam.

But hey, F4 means INT 4, so it interpreted, right?
Koekepan
There was also context, so - that matters.
pbangarth
I'm sure you are quite aware, Koekepan, what an amazing rabbit hole you have just opened for Blue. What are these things, then? Can they leave the house and follow her around? If the Children of Purity get a hold of the way to control these things, what does that mean for the rest of metahumanity? What is it about this place that they appear here? Was this house built on a Ley Line or Node? Was it built over the top of something like a Hellmouth as in Buffy the Vampire Slayer? The questions abound.

I'm going to have to think a bit about how to proceed.

Thanks! excl.gif
Koekepan
I've been waiting for this rabbit hole to become apparent for a while ...
pbangarth
Huh. Sending an apprentice of Owl down a rabbit hole.
pbangarth
Well, it was eight days this time. If DS ever goes down for good, or we decide not to wait, let's find another venue.

I can be the connection: pbangarth@gmail.com
pbangarth
Posting as much as I can in this window of opportunity.
Koekepan
It's been bad, yup.
pbangarth
I want to update Blue's stats here, but I can't remember/find where they are. Do you know, Koekepan?

EDIT: Second question: I believe a shaman can have one or more watcher spirits in tow and still summon a nature spirit. True?
