hey i am working on a new run idea i have the team going to recover stolen box per say hehehe this place is the key manufacture or bulk chemicals and magical supplies on the open market currently it is unnamed as of still the question

Is it possible to have the team trip a trap that would either infect the team with some sort of virus that would make the team try to kill themselves of course the person would have to resist TN 4 for willpower just to as some spice to the run hehehe and inflict the mandatory blood factor

My only comment is that I seem to recall reading magical materials aren't mass produced. Aside from that, sounds like you've already got the idea and some tricks handy.

The first thing you have to ask yourself is "Why would such a "trap" exist?", and don't say "For the amusement of the GM". I can think of several implausible explanations, but the fact is that there are a hojillion ways to defend a manufacturing facility that don't involve a biological weapon, and most of them are both cheaper AND more effective. Elaborate traps are for a certain other gaming system, or for the Renraku Arcology, but not for your typical corporate facility.

One possible way that they can be exposed to this is if they break in through a storage room which has amazingly lax security compared to the rest of the place... because it's the corporations toxic and biological dumping facility. Then they simply pass by a leaky canister and get infected.

As far as viruses causing suicidal tendancies, I'd rather think that it first causes feelings of intense paranoia and hallucinations before that happens. The runner first goes paranoid (which may be seen as "normal" for a runner), then psychotic, then totally bat-shit crazy.

Where is Weredigo when we need his wisdom the most?!

With a TN4 will test to negate you can expect most of the teem to pass.

The problem is what happens if one fails. What doe it take to remove the effect and will he survive against the rest of eth teem for that long.

No mundane chemical could do this. Excessive paranoia is about as close as you could get.

Magic is not mass produced and its results are expensive, why didn’t the corp take the cheaper rout of installing big guns on turrets

Also once the party works out what the stuff dose they will probably try to get some for casual rounds (if there smart) that stuff would be really useful. In some circumstances. If it goes of fast then it is even les economical for the corp to use it

To me it sounds like a poorly thought out “GMs nasty trap” TM more suited to D&D than SR.

Agreed.

yea probally right i was just thinking on how to kill runner like always the place is acutally just a checm manufacturing plant with lots of bio labs and chem labs so that in it self could be enough fun escpically with the group i run they do lots of shooting crap and forget to try being quiet i have to absolutellly stupid trolls if intel could go into the neg these guys wouild have it and to top it of the are identical twins so you can only imagin i would tell one troll to shot his brother and he would hehehe hey you know that sound like some fun

If ya want to have some fun at their expense, then have a pipeline get ruptured and have them sprayed with some stinky liquid. No immediate effects, but have them start to develop (harmless) rashes over the next few weeks and ask them every so often to make a Body Test.

LOL.
srgsng25
hmm that sound like fun maybe some boiles as well you know rashes my even get them baned form they local watering holes heheheh

Or next time Mr. J comes calling, have them all experience an outbreak of fever blisters , colorful facial acne, etc. Don't get too carried away, but make'em sweat. wink.gif

If you want to make sure they get intel, put a monfilament wire in the recessed side of a doorframe. Troll tries to kick down door, troll gets half of his foot chopped off.
If you want to make sure they stay stealthy...
Well, that's what turret-mounted computer-guided panther cannons are for.
srgsng25
hmm panter cannons hmm that could cuta troll down farlly quicklly and the mono wire nice touch i was kind of think mono wire trip lines about ankle height but i have agree making the runner sweat is a great idea

Also, if you want them to be stealthy, have the trap be on the target. No, I don't mean "you pick up the idol, carefully place the bag of sand, and the boulder starts rolling."

For instance: if an alarm is triggered the target slides down into a vault, which closes and locks into place. Any kind of explosion which would get into the vault would destroy the delicate material inside. At the least set it up so that the vault only rises back up if it receives an all clear code from HQ (note: a one shot code like this should be *impossible* to break. without any reference you have no idea where to start breaking the code).

I'd actually set it up so that the vault is on a time-delay. If the alarm is triggered, the vault will not open for the next 12 hours (or something like that).

Two caveats:

1) Make sure your players know about this security measure through legwork. Have a contact say "Oh, by the way, I heard they got some kind of new security there. You may want to check it out or something." If you just spring this on them out of the blue, they'll be pissed and starting blowing things up.

2) Are you sure your players can be stealthy? I just ask because, if the group consists of two troll sammies, a weapons expert, and a demolitionist, the quietest run you're going to get is "Broken, not Shattered".

Remember with security that the number one priority is not to eliminate the threat. The number one priority is *security* as in keeping the data/property in the hands of the corp.

Hell, for that matter, feel free to have the data torch itself if an alarm is triggered. Especially if it's something very sensitive (like research into that Fiber Optic Hacking AI Android Ally Spirit (dikoted of course))

Trap that causes the targest to kill themselfs? Watch Red Dwarf, episiode 'Back to Reality'. If you want to do this, you might as well make it a role playing experence instead of a 'Save or die'. You don't have to do it exactly like in the Dwarf episode, you could just have the team think they are continuing with the run, (when in actuality they are still in the room with the trap). Maby the goal of this is to make the team kill themselfs, maby the goal is for the team to -through this shared holusination- expose to their trapers the goal and any clues about their employer.

Just be sure to drop clues to the party so they might be able to excape this fanticy

P.S. ever thought of having the important looking item in the valt labled 'Ptoject Overlord' actualy worthless, and have the target the normal looking vial, (package, disk exc.) off to the side in the valt labled 'Study 49275-493-001'

Nope, english is my first and only language and I am not dyslexic. I am just not that smart. So go ahead, bash a way, I can't dissagree with you.

Here's a less lethal idea that might inspire some interesting roleplaying.

On a run in a chemical factory they do too much shooting and ruptre a gas canister. They all resist 25D stun with unaugmented body as a result of the chemical exposure.

When they wake up, they are not in custody. They are, instead, in a giant heart-shaped bed in the Honeymoon suite of a tacky motel. They are all naked and various drug containers are in the room including some used slap patches clearly marked "LAES" and empty vials of the Kreiger Strain HMHVV antivirus.
They all have gonorrhea, crabs, and syphilis. (Iching and burning discharge in the croch area and have them roll BOD occasionally untill they have the sense to see a doctor.)

A stort time later a SIM porn insta-classic is called "Runners Gone Wild" in released. Watching it, they learn how they got the STDs and why they needed to be vaccinated agaisnt the Kreiger strain. (Most actors won't even consider ghoul porn.)

Roll 1D6 for each character secretly and seperatly. On a roll of 1 the Kreiger strain antivirus didn't work for that character and he or she should seek medical attention ASAP. On a roll of 2 the character gets the Mysterious Cyberware flaw. On a roll of 3 the character is the recipient of a Quickened spell that could have annoying results.

Of course, to learn how made the video and what else was done to them they have to do some real down and dirty investigating (many social skills required but very little shooting). If they are unable to do this they are contacted by a Johnson who was involved. He knows exactly what happened and what other nasty surprises await them. However, he won't tell unless they do a job for him and if they refuse he'll release some mind-probe/torture/matrix run obtained information to the authorities.

SpasticTeapot
I think that may be overkill.
I would just go with some old-fashioned cyber repair nanites. Of course, these nanites might be experimental fast-acting nanites, with some bugs left in. Have them work only on, say, datajacks; anything else takes damage and stops working until the end of the run. It's a nice way to make the uber-powerful PCs sweat a little, and fixing the cyber is'nt likely to be cheap.
