The title of the article leads you to believe a direct brain connection, but it is still interesting.

QUOTE (Article)
By the time it's perfected, the cost of manufacturing the bionic arm is expected to be about $6 million, according to the report.

Emphasis mine. cyber.gif

Yeah, and not even a hint of humor by the author. I wouldn't be able to resist.
Nerbert
I think including it in the first place is the most humorous license that professional journalists are allowed.

I wonder if that's covered by my medical insurance...

I wonder if it'll be covered if I intentionally cut off my original arm so I can get the replacement...
ShadowDragon8685
You know what's gonna come next, of course?

Next we'll get someone to settle the "Do cyberarms improve your recoil-handling abilities" debate. smile.gif
Panzergeist
Eventually, they will become a lot cheaper. They just need to find a way to mass-produce them on an assembly line. Of course, people won't deliberately chop off their arm for these things until they become super strong and can have cool extras included, like shock hands and secret smuggling compartments.
mfb
that doesn't explain why people chop off their arms for these things in SR3. oh, right, no one does! zing!
hobgoblin
well, nice to see that they finaly is able to have feedback.
now he can pick up a raw egg without crushing it and feel hot and cold, nice.
still, before people start replacing their nice, working arms with them they have to become better then flesh wink.gif

You do not even have to replace your current arms.

Other projects have shown that the brain can manipulate anything hooked up to it. Its a matter of training.

You can get arms like Doc. Octopus when the technology is there. In SR3, the closest thing to this is the articulated arm thats fastened to a cybertorso.

I wonder how long it will be before someone has the idea to hook one of these up to a car?

Hello, riggers. Here we come...

Somehow i don't see RL rigging experience being like SR riggers. First the "the car is my body" thing just doesn't fly with me. Second i always thought that if you did something like jacking in IRL that you'd want to make sure to first slip on a set of Depends. frown.gif

I see cars and vehicles having some kind of rudementary instect, dog, or horse level AI before anyone ever wants to link up with them DNI. As the individual systems of a car become "smarter" and more responsive to the operator, they will together mimic the behaviour of a trained animal, even a limited anticipation of commands.
