Full Version: PhysAds and spells

This may not be possible, but I was wondering if a physad can use powerpoints to learn abilities that mimic spells. Specifically, would you think that a physad could learn Treat, Blur, Invisibility, etc as a self-only ability (would still need to roll for successes)? What kind of PP costs would you recommend they be set at? Also, I am thinking that activating these would require some sort of roll, with associated drain as well.

There is no canon way to gain spells as powers. You can start with the ability to cast spells, though. (ie: magician's path adept, MitS)

Steve Kenson, author of Magic in the Shadows, penned down some rules called Knacks. I believe this is what you are looking for. Unfortunatly, he is hosted on a shitty AOL that seems to be non-cooperative right now. This is a link to his base home page. Look around for magic in the shadows stuff when the site is working.

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks!!

I've played in games allowing Adepts to have the knack power. It's not too broken, especially because you have to pay quite a bit to do anything with it. Remember, for those spells when you choose a damage level and that determines your drain (powerbolt, fireball, etc.) you need to choose a damage level (and therefore drain) when you choose the knack.

For example, your adept wants a Knack: Powerbolt. You have to say that this powerbolt is a Moderate attack (or one of the other ones) in order to determine the drain. Then, this is used to determine what the cost per "pseudo-sorcery" level you take.

Also called Talents in the 2ndEd SRCompanion.

Work best with spells like invisibility, physical mask, shapechange and my personal favourite for ganger intimidation - Flame Aura... ork.gif

I have allowed the knack ability in my game, but only for spells that target the caster, since adept magic inherently affects the adept and not anybody else simply because adepts cannot form a magical link between themselves and another target, but still its pretty usefull i mean spells like invis., armor, astral armor....etc. works just fine as a knack.

Try taking four levels of the old Dissregard spell - basically a power points worth. It works great for unobtrusive adepts. smile.gif

Dissregard sounds interesting. How did it work?
