FanPro has released version 1.1.1 of the Shadowrun Fourth Edition PDF file. This file incorporates all the errata from version 1.1 and fixes compatibility issues with certain PDF viewers.

All download counts have been reset at this time, and the file expiration date has been extended as well.

To download the file, please visit your account management page at https://battlecorps.com/catalog/account_history.php and click on the order number for your Shadowrun Fourth edition PDF. You can find the order number in your emailed receipt.

Enjoy!

Infinitely faster now. Trying www.Printfu.com as well... No good. Still blows up on memory. Oh well... maybe Kinkos'll have better luck?

Gort
Holy crap, I can actually move from one page to another!

Thank you Fanpro smile.gif

What does the expiration date mean?
Slacker
I believe the expiration date refers to that last date you can download the pdf from their site. So you can only download it within a week (or whatever teh timelimit is) of purchasing the pdf.

What does the expiration date mean?

Normally when purchasing a PDF, you have 5 days and 7 tries to get the file.

If you need longer, just send an email to contact@battlecorps.com or quartermaster@battlecorps.com and we can reset the count and or days. We haven't refused yet wink.gif
Skywatcher
much better for me too

thanks to the dev'team !

Will this expiration date be re-set every time a new erata is released, even for the ones who´s pdf has expired?

Yes, both count and date are reset on every new errata release.
Dracol1ch
Wow, I don't know what you all did but the previous PDF had a serious memory leak and forced me to restart Adobe (from the task manager) once every couple of hours. This new one is a completely different beast. Awesome job guys!
Stormdrake
So what kind of corrections were made?
Aristotle
Now opens in Acrobat 6 Pro on my desktop and has much less slow down when scrolling from one page to the next than I would expect (usually only choppy when the next page has large graphics). I haven't tried it on my laptop yet (where I was running the first release) but I expect it will run a bit faster there too.

Is this going to be available through my drivethrurpg account?

Okay, wait, srrpg says yes...let me look at drivethru again.
Kesh
Sweet. Works perfectly in Preview now! smile.gif
Nikoli
Much gooder, thanks Adam
The Madhatter
Wow, I can read it on my Palm now! It's much harder to read, but much more portable. Thanks for the work Adam.
SL James
I'd be more impressed if it didn't have to exist in the first place.
Angel's Holocaust
Wow, thanks for the updated file guys. This ones alot better than the old. smile.gif
Erebus
Same here.

Thanks alot for the updated file, (FanPro) and for providing updates for free. (Battleshop.)

I have a nicely printed copy now, all coil bound and everything.

Fortune
Thanks Adam (and Fanpro). [/kiss up]

Do you want a new 'Errata' thread for errors found in this updated version? wink.gif
Dustbin1_UK
Way hay! Alot better! Good on ya guys 'n' gals! biggrin.gif

This is amazing work on the PDF. Thumbs up.

I love the update policy as well as the email info.

If this continues I dont see me buying books any more ... oh wait, I still go to put books in my bookcase, guess I need the package deals now :-/
Sayburr
Hey, excuse this computer question, but I just purchaced the download and pre-ordered the book... How do I know what version I have? I thought I would look at properties and it says Version 1.4, is that correct?
blakkie
That is the version of Acrobat file format used, not the version of the SR in it. But just so you know, you have there the most up-to-date file because the first PDF was using version 1.5 (yes, a higher number which is kinda confusing).

Not sure why they didn't put any document version markers in the file when they updated it. *shrug*

The new one is pretty cool, but I'm finding some strange things... The map at the back is lower resolution not higher for some reason. And some weird boxes are showing up on pg 139 where the italics were.. frown.gif
blakkie
Do you wait long enough for the NA map to settle at it's final resolution?
Vector
Yes, I've compared the two versions. And waited for a minute (pent M 1.5Gz 512MB RAM, so that should have been plenty). At 162% zoom it is nearly unreadable. The old one was still very readable with the exception of the small cities on the map. Granted the old one takes much longer to load.
blakkie
I can't say i ever compared the two. The CPU i'm on right now has Acro 6.0 Pro, so i'm not really in a position to confirm at the momement, but i will say it is very hard to read the city names on this new one without knowing what they are beforehand.
Rotbart van Dainig
The Images of the second PDF are lower res.

The have less compression artifacts, though.
Vector
Also, I'm using Reader 7.0.3 if that makes a difference.

All the images except the map at the back seem to be much faster loading and at least as good quality.

The sample charaters sure aren't. Printing those 16 pages on a PS3 printer created a combined print file twice as large as the other 320 pages combined.

I thought Adam said that the NA map had it's resolution increased in the latest file. I must be misremembering.
Vector
From the SR web page talking about the improvements to the PDF: "The map in the back is higher-res."

It sure doesn't seem like it though.
Thufar_Hawat
Vector, i'm getting the strange symbols instead of italics on page 139 too.
Vector
OK, good to hear. At least it's not just me seeing things. smile.gif

Well, I haven't seen a new update or any info about it, so I'll ask.

The latest PDF update (1.1.1? how to know which version?) had these features:
QUOTE
Better compatability with Acrobat/Adobe Reader 6 and Preview for OS X.
Resolution changes - the color borders are now lower-res, while the greyscale artwork is higher-res.
The map in the back is higher-res.

Will there be an update to the PDF containing even higher-res images, including the map in the back (which was supposed to be higher-res with the last update)?

Comparing the Map from the SR website to the map from the 1.1.1 PDF, the latter is not higher res and is horrible.

Also, the lower-res color borders need to go back to their higher-res version (before the last update) since they look much better before as can be seen by comparing the 1.1.1 PDF character sheet with the Character sheet from the SR4 website, the SHADOWRUN graphic above the sheet and the Shadowrun serpent logo at the bottom are much sharper (and look better) on the original.

I'm not worried about the size of the PDF file, I just want good quality graphics (the text prints out flawlessly, so there's no issue there).

*smack* I don't care about file size either, i care about being able to scroll without waiting 15 seconds for the new page to show up.

I use a printed out version of the lasted file and i'm happy with the quality except for that NA map at the back which simply isn't readable. I think Adam just made a mistake there exporting to the PDF not using the orignals source resolution like he did for the sample character pages, but instead turned down the resolution like the rest of the book.

BTW i suspect they are working on the 2nd errata (for a second printing?) as Rob came here looking for all the Sample Characters errors, and wanting the info by September 19.

Well be sure to replace your printed PDF map by printing out the Map from the Shadowrun website as its' quality is greatly improved (though smaller city names are still blurry).

Glad we agree wink.gif Now bring on that 100MB beast with the flashy graphics so I can print out my copy that would rival the printed book!

I wish the PDF were available on CD. While most Americans may be spoiled by having more bandwidth than brainpower, I am utterly incapable of downloading such a large file because I live in one of the few areas of the US where broadband is utterly unavailable... for about 15 miles around. Ditto Cable TV.
Is there any possibility of them selling the PDFs on CD or DVD for the lazy and the bandwidth-challenged among us?
Rev
FYI in the firefox faq there is a link to instructions on how to get adobe acrobat to start up and open a document quite a bit faster by disabling various plugins that almost nobody uses but that by default it loads up before opening the document.

I didn't use broadband, but still successfully downloaded it (twice!), and I know several others in the same category. It's only about 50 mb. What seems to be the problem?
jervinator
I live in a rural area. THe nearest paved surface is over a mile away. Our local phone-lines are crap, so the best D/L speeds I can get are ~2.8 KB/sec, and usually closer to 2.1.
Assuming I do not surf at all and only do one D/L at a time, I average a little over 8 minutes per MB, or ~7.3 MB/hr... if I'm lucky! Plus, my ISP times out and boots me after 4-6 hours to keep people from hogging the lines, so even if I had the patience, I couldn't get the whole file.
blakkie
Ouch. This board must be painful by itself. frown.gif My parents live 8 miles from the middle of nowhere, literally, and they don't have it nearly that rough. Of course in Canada we tend to rely on our telecommunicatons more since we are so spread out, so they do tend to be OK even in the crappiest backwater.

P.S. Any respectable FTP program now-a-days can continue a partial download. Of course there is the issue of downloading the FTP program. :/ But they tend to be fairly small, only a few Mb at most.
fionn
you guys prolly cover this, but is it searchable? thanks, this really will affect my decision to purchase the thing. indices are nice but being able to run a keyword search is just 1k times more flash.
Ranneko
Yes, yes it is.
Vector
Yes, the ability to search is quite possibly the best reason to get the PDF. I've been extremely happy with my copy.

jervinator: Maybe see if someone you trust will download it for you and snail mail you the PDF on a CD. I am willing to do it, but you would need to purchase it send me the link, I'll download it, burn it, delete the file from my machine, and I'll send it off to you. Actually, if there were any other files you wanted downloaded and burned on the CD I could grab those too (plenty of bandwidth on my end). All I would want out of this is a couple bucks to cover shipping it to you, since I have a ton of blank CDs laying around. Send me a private message if you are interested. Oh, and when they come out with revisions contact me again and we'll repeat the process.

If any one else is stuck in that situation I'm willing to help. The PDF is way too nice to be denied due to something simple like bandwidth restrictions. smile.gif
Nikoli
May i recommend getting satellite high speed?
boonies don't matterso long as you have a clear view of the sky.
that or do like me and move in out of the sticks. No offense, just used to live in a similair area and I loathed it.
jervinator
Hopefully by winter, I will be moving....
