Slasher is saying that his character is pretty much a 'decker-type' hacker, but that he can take over drones if they are available. If you're cool with playing a 'decker-type' also, that fine. I just thought I'd mention it in case of any misunderstanding.
400 BP is what I used.

Sounds good.
I can't wait to start, because I keep tinkering with my character.

I'm a bit confused about what I need to access augmented reality and virtual reality. If I have a simrig, commlink, and a way of hooing the two together, is that enough to let me do it all with my mind, or do I still need ar goggles and gloves?

To access the Matrix in VR mode that is all you need because the simrig takes over all of your normal senses.
However, the simrig doesn't do that for AR because it would interfere with your own senses. So to access AR completely you would need goggles (or glasses, or contatct lenses) with a display link and the AR gloves.

Yeah, 400 points. I'll start an OOC/IC thread this evening. If you're not done with the character yet, Panzergeist, that's okay you can either wait until you are done, or just chime in with comments until such a time as you can send me the sheet. The first few posts never require rolls anyway.

Or a Touch Link and Olfactory Link, along with the typical visual and audio enhancements. You could even get a Taste Link, if I remember correctly.

Also got contacted by DireRadiant who's going to play. Thinking of an Adept character for the moment. That'll put us back at 6 and we'll be good to go. IC/OOC post probably this evening....
Edit: oh, I said that above.

It seems to indicate that the touchlink only works one way, feeding you tactile data. The simrig appears to work only the other way, sending data from you to the commlink. So it seems a simrig would allow you to "type" on virtual keys, while a touch link would be needed to feel those keys. But that seems wierd to me. I'm going to ask on the general discussion forum.

Boris The Ear, a dwarven physical adept, a halfer known for his street "savvy"... or perhaps it's just all the street grime he never washes off.
Just remember, anyone who can survive the streets must be tough! But maybe not so smart for living there.

Hey...I'm interested in playing in a SR4 campaign, but just now noticed your thread. If you have room for another, I'd love a go. If not, just keep me in mind if anyone drops out.

Sorry Blitz, just recruited my way back up to 6 but you're on the list for drop-outs. Good to see you're still around, too

IC/OCC threads going up. Panzergeist and DireRadiant can still use this thread for character gen questions as they get caught up but I think everyone has an idea of their conept which is all we really need to get started. I've gotten characters (and one of them truly is a "character") from all but Panzergeist so I think we're good to start up the basics.

Forgive the intrusion into your thread but I'm new to the forums and had some questions.
How are you playing your games? Contained entirely in the forums using the OOC and IC threads (this is how it appears to be to me), or do you use some chat/IRC or VoIP (teamspeak, etc.) in addition?
I played a couple of IRC SR3 games many years ago, and just became interested in SR again with the new 4th edition. Having found Dumpshock and its forums, I was interested in seeing how games are being played now.
As a very inexperienced player, I am looking to join a newbie game, but wasn't sure how things were been done here.
Thanks for any help, and sorry for hijacking the thread.

Most, if not all, of the games played here in the Dumpshock forums are played exclusively in threads for IC and OOC.
Some people do still play games using IRC, AIM, or other chat programs. And occasionally a GM will post recruitment for such games here, but I don't know of anybody currently recruiting for such games.
OpenRPG is also fairly popular.
Currently there are only 3 SR4 games (SR4: First Run which I am running, Fight or Flight, and this game Interception) going on here on Dumpshock, at least that I am aware of. Unfortunately, all 3 are already filled. If you just check a couple times a week in this forum for threads with Recruitment in the title, it probably won't be long before more SR4 games start up.

Also, go ahead and read the IC or OOC threads for any running game and that'll give you a good sense of how games are played around here. That's what I did to learn the ropes and it worked out for me rather well. Feel free to lurk in the IC/OOC threads for this game and if you have questions you can post them in this thread if you wish to (I'll keep tracking it for a while) or send me a PM. Hell, if it's a question about mechanics, though, you'd probably get more answers (and flames) by posting in the SR4 forum itself

I've named Boris the Ears Fixer|Drug Dealer contact Gregor, as you may notice. Let me know if you want it something different to match up with the rest of the plot.
As for joining the forum games, I'm just jumping in and relying on people to keep me in line.

Thanks for the responses.
So how often are you required to post? And do you have to wait for everyone to post before posting again, etc?
Thanks.

That varies by the game.
The faster moving games have players that post multiple times each weekday (weekends are notoriously slow on the forums).
More typical are games where players post once a day or every couple days.
And then there are slow games where players post only a couple times per week or even more infrequently. These tend to die out as people lose interest.
That's one thing you have to worry about forum games is that they take a very long time to play in comparison to a RL tabletop game. Quite often they just up an die.
As far as how soon you can post again goes, i've never heard of any GM setting a limit on that. If your posts are getting ahead of the action, they'll delay posting the results until the other players have caught up, but that is about it.
Oh and feel free to lurk in my game SR4: First Run, its more of an intro to the combat system of SR4 and we are moving right along. We just jumped right into a situation that is more like a random encounter. Though there will be an actual shadowrun mission to follow it.

I think all we were looking for was a rigger character. If we don't get any takers in a day or two, I'll NPC one.

Actually, I believe we are currently filled up.
Also, the game is sort of on a hiatus as Dashifen was having some computer problems.
