Bah, kids don't remember the days when you had to go to the STORE to get add-ons! Expansion Packs they were called!

Now you can just sit at home and get your DLC without the trip outside at all, and they still whine, "But the whole game isn't here!"

Eh. Additional content for an existing game, which you pay extra money to gain access to.

I'm not seeing a real meaningful difference here.

The physical delivery format is kinda unimportant, unless you're insisting on a hard copy rather than digital. But that's really a separate discussion of "buying a product versus buying a license".

Expansion Packs gave, usually, a new Campaign you could play. One that usually started after the Base Campaign was over.
So a DLC CAN be an Expansion-Pack, but more often than not . . it's just a bit more Gear, one or two bonus skins, one or MAYBE two bonus missions all in the same base game . .
No new Units, campaigns, Game-Mechanics . .

Ah, OK. Most of the DLC I buy have been for Fallout 3/New Vegas, so they all seemed like Expansion Packs to me.

There was one for New Vegas that was just new gear, but I liked the new gear. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Including one rifle that was cut from the game that I really wanted to play with when I saw the promotional pics.

Expansions backs used to add a lot of contents to the game. Some of them were nearly new games with the same engine. For example, Alpha Centauri's expansion pack didn't add just 3 new factions and 2 new units but 7 factions and a ton of units, buildings, secrets, alien races, victory conditions and so on. Compare this to the DLC for Civ 5...

It's still in the pre-demo stages, folks. They're still on the Jagged Alliance Closed-Beta. The Shadowrun-S works as a great placeholder, however.

NERPS would have been better, I admit.

Hmm, it'd be nice if they created decals you can tag onto stuff for faction based wars . .
so gang signs or posters of corp logos . .

IIRC, there was some talk of Corp-Based Gangs in one of the books.

I know there was talk of gangs based on what high-end fashions they wore. Bored rich kids looking for a fight...

I would be interesting if it was possible to use skills out of the combat.

Eg: in the "map screen", the team´s Face could use social skills to get extra info on runs, bargain run payments, make new contacts, etc. The same goes for deckers/hackers - they could use hacking (or simply browsing) skills to get extra info on runs, or even affect future runs by softening site security, etc.

Is this doable ?
