Think you've got the time stamps flipped on Dante's and Alex's latest posts, notsoevildm. Unless the screeching noise is indicating a much bigger timestream issue. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Fixed the entry for the restaurant. However, the scream is not happening at exactly the same time at each of the different locations.

@Notsoevildm:
Given that 2072 is a shared thread, can we assume that all the E:Tribes characters will (potentially) have heard about this screaming going on by 7 PM?
Maybe even witnessed parts of it?

They may be some chatter about something strange going on, yes. Rumours of nodes mysteriously dropping out, weird sounds and icons being heard/seen on the matrix, hackers dropping off the grid. Allegedly, someone even crashed the Citadel. Whatever is going on, those in know are calling it the '>1rtu@l5cr3@m'.
And who knows, you may still get to witness parts of it up close and personal. But I wouldn't know anything about that, no sirree! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Of course you wouldn't, friend computer keeps such things safely out of reach from loyal citizens. Err, wrong game.

Something to chat about on the long ride into Bellevue.

Is Alex going to be able to hard shutdown his commlink? And if so, can he restart it in what amounts to be "Safe Mode", i.e. no communicating, but able to boot up so he can see if anything is fragged, and if Gabriel is still intact. He has Computer 2, so I'd think that's something he could do. He wouldn't be able to fix anything, but he can at least survey the damage.

I'll ask on the main forum about AIs and subscriptions because I'm not convinced she's ever not 'at home' so I'll make the def and resistance rolls for you...
From Runner's Companion: It may also make connections and create icons in other nodes as a normal Matrix user, but it exists in a single node at any given time. An AI may, as a Complex Action, move to another node to which it has an open subscription and on which it has admin access privileges.

So the bad news is that she only exists in one node at a time. The good news is that it only takes a complex action to move from the Citadel to Drone body if she chooses to go that way. So only the first defence/resistance test is needed and then she would be home.

EDIT: Just re-read the RC text and realised I had it interpreted it completely wrong. She 'exists' in the drone node like a hacker's brain is in his body. But she can actually move her 'brain' to other nodes. So her 'brain' is still in the drone and she also currently has active icons in all three other nodes (Citadel, Argent's home and Argent's 'office'). Argh, the matrix hurts my brain!!!

The bad news is that all four nodes are being hacked by '>1rtu@l5cr3@m'. The good news is that she can just log out of the other three (if she wishes) without getting her 'brain' fried.

@E:Tribes
I just looked it up on google and the shortest drive from Mechanicals/Freedom to the middle of Bellevue (is there an address I missed?) is about 56 kilometers (35 miles). Doing top speed with no annoying traffic (yeah, right), this gives about 47 minutes minimum travel time for Spring's Scoot (Speed 60 = 72 km/h) and about 31 minutes for the GMC Bulldog Step Van from the BBB (Speed 90 = 108 km/h).

Mobile hazards (a.k.a. other vehicles) and speed limits may apply, although a quick search gives 60 mph for urban interstates in Washington (State) today, which is about 97 km/h, so the step van shouldn't be affected much and the scooter not at all.
The bikes with better handling can get past some of that. Glyph should be 'critical path' on that, cause she needs to get to Angelo, then Angelo the rest of the way, then give Morgan a bit of time with the supplied gear. At least Renton is right on the way. The rest have a bit more time.

Google maps {car driving directions} says from
Meridian Ave E, Puyallup, WA, United States and 43 ave se {Mechanicals Complex}
to
Bel Red Road, Bellevue, WA, United States and 148 ave se {middle Bellevue}

is 34.2 to 40.3 miles, 40 to 46 minutes (46 to 51 in 'current' rush hour traffic when I happened to check), using combinations of I-5, I-405, WA-167

BTW, google maps allows saving the route, with or without manual adjustments, to 'my maps', so we could add it to the 2072 map if we wanted to. If had better details about real end location

My vote is for the soiling oneself. It's quite liberating. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif)

I forget where I heard this, but recently I learned that in times of extreme fear, it's normal to crap oneself, as this is the body's way of getting rid of excess "baggage" in preparation for fight/flight. Frees up blood being used in digestion to make it available for muscles etc. More common than peeing oneself, supposedly.

Not sure why I find this so interesting, but there you go...

Shutting down is System + Response (threshold 10, 1 combat round) so yes he can but will take a little time especially as he still has 3 dice penalty as long as the music player is screaming

@notsoevildm
Questions:
Was the connection terminated Cat successfully shutting down her commlink or something more sinister?
Do you wish me to continue with Cat's storyline or wait for everyone else to resolve?
Where and when was the party? What's the dress code? Since she thinks it's a furry club, she's going to do some research into the club to find out if that's compulsory or not. Hopefully she'll discover her earlier mistake ^^

There may be more attacks coming. You can make the rolls if you wish or just trust me to roll for you! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ork.gif)
However, Cipher does get to do something first. This could include wetting himself or having a religious experience, but I'll leave that up to you.

If you're happy to do the rolls (rolling dice on your desk or whatever) then I'm more than happy to go this way. My matrix rules-fu isn't great so it'd save me time, I trust you to do it (though as GM, trust doesn't really matter anyway. You're the arbiter), and it'll allow me to do fluffy description-like stuff without wondering what it is I actually need to be rolling.

If that isn't too much work for you, of course.

Cat successully logged off the node. It just took longer than she would have liked. Her commlink is playing up though. It is running very slowly and there are several new icons on your desktop: opera glasses, invitation, business card, purse and one that looks disturbingly like a twitching liver. Feel free to continue with storyline.

The Looking Glass (credit to Buddha72 for this one) is a surged club mainly freguented by the weird and wonderful. Indeed pretty much anything goes but it is not solely a fetish club so 'normal' party gear is perfectly appropriate.

Visual Perception on the van, checking for obvious problems.

Intuition (4) + Perception (1) + Vision Enhancement (3) + Threading Sustain (-2) = 6d6.hits(5) → [2,6,5,2,5,4] = (3)

Compiling a Rating 6 Paladin Sprite

Resonance (6) + Compiling (4) + Paragon (1) + Threading Sustain (-2) + Hot Sim (2) = 11d6.hits(5) → [4,6,2,5,3,3,1,5,5,4,2] = (4)

Sprite Resistance = 6d6.hits(5) → [5,4,5,2,4,2] = (2)

2 net hits = 2 tasks
Additional CFs = Attack, Blackout

Fading Resist vs 4 damage = Charisma (5) + Resonance (6) + Threading Sustain (-2) = 9d6.hits(5) → [5,5,2,2,2,6,2,6,1] = (4) No damage. (WOOT!)

Right…err, ok, I think that ties with my thoughts. So she’s a matrix user in terms of subscriptions but can physically go on a jaunt leaving her node behind (although why she’d want to…?!?)

I know you said keep actions to 1IP (or was that 1 round??? I'm writing this without checking (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) ) but Gossamer will perform an 'observe in detail' and a log off (both simple actions) in each of her 3IPs as she leaves the Citadel, then Shadowland and then Argent's CHN. That leaves her in her home node, sadly I won't be able to get an armour program online until the next IP (IMG:style_emoticons/default/frown.gif)

Hopefully the rolls I've already done are sufficient but I'm happy for you to roll if that makes life easier?

What is the distance from the mall to the closest point where someone could access the LTG? Are there other nodes in the Mall area that are supplying an outside matrix feed?

Well you can 'see' the LTG from miles outside Seattle - whether you can interact with it depends on your own signal. The mesh coverage is sufficiently spotty around here that Freedom cutting their link will plunge the area into 'darkness' but you wouldn't have to go far (Puyallup City) to pick up a full link again.

Signal table p222 SR4a

Signal Range Examples
0 3 m Nanoware transceivers, cyberware, intra-PAN devices
1 40 m RFID tags, handheld electronics
2 100 m Headware transceivers, micro-drone sensors
3 400 m
Average commlinks, residential/small business wi-fi
routers, vehicular autonav sensors
4 1 km Crawler-drone sensors
5 4 km
Cyberlimb transceivers, heavy drone surveillance
sensors
6 10 km Cell-phone towers, public access wi-fi routers
7 40 km
Targeting sensors for ground vehicle weapons
(ATGMs, tank guns, etc.)
8 100 km Flight radar, dedicated ground surveillance radar
9 400 km Maritime/naval radar, commercial AM/FM radio

System 4 + Response 4 - Painful noise 3 = 5 dice
5d6.hits(5)=3
5d6.hits(5)=1
5d6.hits(5)=1
5d6.hits(5)=2
5d6.hits(5)=2
5d6.hits(5)=0
5d6.hits(5)=4

So, 7 combat turns, roughly a minute and half in real time, yes? Which to Matrix users is a frickin' eternity but to Alex using his AR and pressing buttons manually on the 'link is merely irritating. I'll have him shut it down and reboot with the comms off to survey the damage in my next IC post.

She can switch her 'brain' to another node she has admin access to. Why? Well, maybe to upgrage to a better one or if her current node was being offlined/destroyed.
