All of these points are very different for unions here in the US. If enough folks vote in a given office, it's not optional. You're now union, whether you desire to be or not. (Speaking only from my experience with grocery store related unions and telecommunications unions in Pennsylvania.) Union dues can also be much higher than that a month, with little return, although this varies greatly industry to industry, and union to union (in terms of cost of dues and return on said dues).

I'm a bit surprised by that, because I'd believe USA be more free than Sweden regarding that. But I think we have had a fairly long period where old rules and such has been loosened up, so Sweden is becoming less bound by old political ideals. That said we are still a high tax/free healthcare/wellfare state, but that would take extremely long time to change if ever possible.

Generally higher income and lower tax often means higher costs in other places, so maybe thats why fees are higher. But the unions here are mostly financed with membership fees, a very small percentage is support from the state (via taxes). The union fees are income-bound.

Edit: I'll let this be the last post about unions.

Union talk, getting WAY off topic people. Let's just reel that in an cut it off before it devolves.

Thanks
