Full Version: Cyber Spurs==Unarmed?

Okay, I think I'm kinda reaching here, but here goes:

Cyber Spurs use the unarmed combat skill now, so would you say it is compatable with the adept power critical strike? I'm iffy on this, because it's not really unarmed, but it does use the unarmed skill and is part of your being since you paid for it with essence.

Second Question: Would bonuses from Bone density or Lacing to unarmed dv stack with Spurs? Kinda along the same lines but different ideas I guess.

I guess the whole point of this post is that spurs and cyber weapons are grouped as unarmed now, and I see no real reason that they shouldn't get the benefits...

Yeah, I'd definitely say you are reaching and those combinations seam way too munchy. I always thought the added damage of bonelacing or bone density for that matter, was an effect of the hardening of your bones and your fist as an extension. Therefor it would have little to no effect on a cyberspur.
I can see your argument about the critical strike and cyberspurs because you paid essence for it, but I still think it sounds too min-maxing especially since SR4 has the damage for cyberspurs at (str/2)+3P.
Feshy
The way I figure it, if you aren't using the "unarmed damage value" you aren't using unarmed for purposes of critical strike. Things that modify that damage are okay (such as bone density). Though... stacking bone density with critical strike could get very ugly very fast.

Still, you could always just make your spurs weapon focuses.

Do they? I'd put them under 'blades'.
Fortune
Spurs do use the Blades skill. Implant Weaponry was split into several skill categories. Things like Shock Hands use Unarmed Combat, while Spurs and Razors fall under the Blades category, and implanted guns and stuff need the Exotic Weapons skill.
Squinky
Wow, I guess I read that unarmed was used on certain implants and just assumed it applied to all, my bad.

Answers the question pretty well though, along with feshy's reply. Thanks...

hmm, shock hands + critical strike. zap...
Squinky
How would that work anyway? If you wore shock gloves and smakced someone, would it add in to unarmed dv, do original dv plus the shick dv separate, or just the shock?

I'm still trying to figure out if it is a good thing or a bad thing. cool.gif

P.S. Retractable Cyberspurs and the lot could be deemed by the GM to be an Exotic Weapon since placement into that catagory is open to GM interpretation and it wouldn't be without precident given that cyber-firearms are Exotic Weapons. I'd be inclined to put most of them into Blades though.

Some examples.... cyber-implant weapons mounted in unusual locations (ie, elbow spurs, foot blades).

I wonder if you COULD install a shock "glove" there....
