Okay, terrorists birthday is the second-worst time of the year for me (carneval is worse!) so I normally hole up with a batch of DVD's and a bottle of Scotch.

This year it included (aside for the last half-batch of SeaQuest with Ironside)

+ Soylent Green
+ Logans Run
+ Colossus
+ The Bronx

Soylent Green/Year 2020 is a classic and more Cyberpunk than 80+ percent of the novels claiming to be Cyberpunk. That's the classic "world going to hell" of SR1/2

Aside from using "The Bronx" as a template for the combat zones (After all SR has already stolen the dialogs), I found Logans Run and Colossus quite useful for an arcology sample, both for "normal" live and for "Deus"

And I wish FASA had "borrowed" SeaQuest as a model for their Undersea habitats rather than Custeau.
nezumi
Soylent green was okay as a documentary on cyberpunk life, I suppose. Logan's run was pretty stupid though. I didn't get anything from it. I haven't seen the other two.

I've been using Netflix to wander through good cyberpunk movies. I've been sorely disappointed in most cases. Blade Runner is still all time #1, with a good, long gap before #2 (and I don't know what #2 is yet.)
Mr.Platinum
The Warriors. For the gang aspect.

Dead or Alive. for the Yak.

Nemesis. screams SR.

and well i think there is more, can't thin of them right now

SL James
Beverly Hills Cop. Axel is a great example of a Face.
warrior_allanon
Oh, movies that scream SR or give ideas for SR

Death race 2000
cannonball run
Escape from New York/LA
mad max series
aliens series
blade runner
logans run
soylent green
rollerball, (both versions)

theres a few more that i cant think of the names for besides the obvious Johnny Mnemonic and the like. its just been so long since i've seen them that i cant remember the names

How to be a good Shadowrunner:

HEAT
Ronin
Spygame

PlainWhiteSocks
Not really an old movie, but Spartan. The new one with Val Kilmer.

Hey, I was just thinking "Man, we need another movie thread."
The Stainless Steel Rat
Followed closely by, What shadow-runny music should we listen to?
nt326
haha i hate to admit it, but Johnny Mneumonic. This thing is the tale of a runner, a courier, with gangers (lo-tecs) fighting the corps... people running from the Yak, and the coolest street doc ever, Henry fraggin Rollins! Not to mention the Street Sam girl with sumtin like wired reflexes. Its SR without the magic...

ps... ignore the dolphin part and make him celydyr wink.gif wink.gif

I think Strange Days is good to illustrate the effects of BTL addiction.
Chance359
Way of the Gun
American Ninja series

Snow_Fox
The Island with Ewan Mcgregor.
Kyoto Kid
The Net
Sneakers (one of the best runner teams I've seen in action to date)
The Italian Job (Original 1960s version)
Enemy of the State (just insert your favourtite Megacorp in place of the Government)
Big Trouble in Little China (one of my all time faves)
Telefon (already did a twisted version of this in a previous scenaro)

The Net - yeah, great movie. And it has Sandra Bullock, so it's a great movie cool.gif

Runners - With that actors, what can go wrong. Now, where can I get a Pinch...

Big Trouble - Not exactly Cyberpunk. If you want Kurt Russel and Punk, well "If you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere"

Telefon - I repeat Wladimir Pawlowitsch: "The forrest in his coolness..."

Aku
is it time for this thread already again?
PBTHHHHT
There's always time for that thread... it keeps coming back like spam.
Oh, an interesting movie... King Kong. For the runners who are into big game hunting. Especially if you're trying to bring them back alive for the zoos. wink.gif
nezumi
I'll go ahead and tack "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", if you have that sort of team.

RUNNING MAN! hehe corp wars played out on trid!

Nobody say Johnny Mnemonic. That movie sucked.
Mr.Platinum
nope some dude did, it was Ok.
nick012000
White Noise. You could rip its plot off verbatim, if you wanted, replacing the main character with the group's street sam. Why the street sam? Because that way, he'll get all the more freaked out when he discovers a way to talk to the dead (indirectly). rotfl.gif
emo samurai
Especially if he's a cyberzombie.
Mr.Platinum
Preacher was like a cyber-zombie.

and i some times don't think Zombie is the appropiate word.
RunnerPaul
Because I've been around to long to take movie threads seriously any more:

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Mr.Platinum
Jay And Silent bob, yeah i can see it as a Run.

Mr.Platinum
oh Harry Potter for the MIT&T aspect.

I guess.
nt326
I think Potter is a tad on the fun side for MIT&T, they would be much more serious I assume, though magic would be soo much better if they had teachers like Dumbledor and Hagrid.
nt326
Ok, so noone shoot me for this, but I have to say it...
For a good insight of what it is like to grow up as a dragon...

You know what? We're kind of getting away from old movies.

True, but then "old" is relative isn't it.

As to Big Trouble., I agree, not really Cyber but it is a good plot for a team heavy with shamans & adepts. I'm planning doing an adaptation of it fairly soon.

"I want a Winnebago, with Burgundy Leather Seats..."

"I want World Peace."
"We can't do that, We're the US Government."

"I want her phone number"

No matter how hard we want to.

Actually, the first two weren't that bad. The third one zigged when it should have zagged.

I finally got around to watching 'Foolproof' starring Ryan Reynolds. It's a great look at Running.
Trax
Boondock Saints
brohopcp
Legally Blonde
DeadNeon

Bring me the Head of Alfredo Garcia

Not only can the movie be easily adapted to Shadowrun, but a reference was made to in Prime Runners.

Ah, this is obviously some strange usage of the word 'old' that I was not previously aware of.
