Because. Yes, just "because".

For the gamer girls!

I was looking for a tabletop group. My FLGS suggested a local group that had a website, so I finally got online. (Yes, SR was my impetus for ever venturing online.) I found their site, then surfed a little and came across FASA's announcement that they were closing shop. (Yes, the day I go online is the day FASA died.) About the next place I found was Dumpshock, and got sucked into the discussions surrounding the announcement FASA was closing.

It turned out SR survived. I kept coming to DS learning rules I overlooked or ignored, learning tactics and good ideas. Learning what makes an effective character, some of the combinations of things that can be taken that work really well together. There seems to be a lot less of this going on anymore, but every now and then something comes along that I think I can use that, or I'll have to remember that.

And I have been trying a few things to try to keep SR alive and bring enjoyment to all. I've got the fiction contest going now and I tried something in the online rpging section that got away from me, but that looks to be going strong.

I miss some of the old crowd, even if I was usually arguing with them. Any more, it has gotten to the point that many topics are dead horses. I kind of wish there was a dead horse section to DS. Then there could be a thread for Sammy vs Adept, how does invisibility work, called shots, etc. an entry could be made summing up the arguements and we could just point newbies there. Of course the place would probably die. We could also have a permanent music and movie thread and just add to it as new stuff comes out.

I think so. Reading dusty old arguments is not as fun as having them yourself. Let 'em have their fun. We did nyahnyah.gif (I never posted a subject like that, but I sure participated in the discussions)

Btw, my join date is misguiding, but still most of the people who've posted in this thread have irritated themselves on my newbiness not long ago. And you know; some questions just have to be asked for you to know. A lot of things that are obvious to you guys is only obvious on Dumpshock, because it's been discussed one thousand times. And you shouldn't be required to study forum archives just to be allowed in the community. Unless you get to voice your opinion even though it's ignorant, you will never stay around long enough to learn. So you can roll your eyes at newbie topics, but you can't make forum rules to separate them from new, interesting topics. That'd surely kill Dumpshock, no joke.

I discovered DumpShock back when it was still "Deep Resonance" (shadowrun.html.com). I spent over 5 years as a "lurker"; never posting, just reading. Finally, inspired by finding a copy of SR1, I decided to do some art based on shadowrun.

I come here because, unlike other forums, there is never a "down-time". I've never seen less than 10 people on at any given time (and I've been on at 4 in the AM). Also, no matter how much of a deuchebag someone is, no one takes themselves or anyone else too seriously. silly.gif

I believe it was Gurth who, after getting a mail from me with a bunch of Shadowrun-related questions, kindly told me about ShadowRN and Dumpshock.

I didn't have much Internet access back then, so I just joined ShadowRN and took a brief look at DS. Some time later (a year or so), I dug out that mail from my mail accound and decided to take a look again.

Shortly after that, I joined and ranted about the lack of information about South America. Someone (Synner) told me that if I wanted something, I might as well propose for it.

The rest, as they say, is history. biggrin.gif

I'm on this forum because I am faced with the daunting task of assembling a brand-new Shadowrun playgroup with very little knowledge of the Sixth World or RPGing in general, and quite frankly, I need somebody to hold my hand. That position falls to the fine people of this forum, who know way more than enough to sustain my curiousity.

Plus, the constant exploration of the subject matter is fascinating to me. I adore this stuff.
