Sure I like Shadowrun alot. I've got a special need to talk about the subject because I'm too busy or tired to make my gaming plans reality nowadays. But I'm interested in a lot of things, and I'm not checking any other forum almost daily like I do with this one. At this point I no longer engage in a lot of lengthy debates or read very long threads. I just hang around.
My reasons for being here are approaching what AH expresses in his signature. I simply like it here. It's like having your favourite dive. Everyone knows who you are, and you feel welcome—even if the other patrons are all eccentrics and some of them tries to hit you with a flying beer mug now and then.
::::::::::::::::::
Maybe this is not that relavent or unusual a subject. I'd just like to give people an opportunity to express some touchy feely stuff in between the usual flaming. Mainly because we've splintered into two groups over the new edition, and that situation has the potential to be worse than some random disagreements.
It's my conviction that I would never have stayed around in the first place if everyone was all kind and conciderate. I respect hard-liners, even if they're not on my side. I'm not like that myself, if I was I'd be locked in an argument with someone right now—unable to get out. On the other hand, if I was in a forum made up of people like myself, I wouldn't have any fun. There'd be no arguments at all.

I found forums are an excelent way to collect different views on things such as rules. It has happened more than once that I played a rule a certain way for a long time and then suddenly a different interpretation appears on a board that makes more sense then mine.
That and I like the whole thing about forums. Dunno why, I just do.

Fun smileys?

Edit:
Actually, I´m possibly a chatter, only too slow for real chatting. Allso, my SR enthusiasm has, due to scedual conflicts and a bit of burnout (not the

), degraded a bit over the years and then there is SR4 and the 2070 which I´m still trying to get the feeling for. The forum is also a nice place to compensate for games unplayed becaus of less time.

This is also true for me. Especially since people around here pay much more attention to rules than I do. With SR3, I don't even know if I can say I even knew the rules at all before coming here

There was a time when I took you for a common bigot, James. I've come to realize that this judgement speaks grossly to my dissadvantage. You are obviously by no means common

There used to be another person who could claim the title of Shining Ball of Pure Hatred. After he takes over Hell, I will have to destroy him to take his place or be exiled to walk the Earth undead like the Saint of Killers only more evil.

As someone who just signed up, I guess my response is more immediately relevant.
I just picked up 4th ed, after being interested in SR for a while. Unfortunately, no one around me has expressed much interest in running a game, which means that online is my best bet for a game. And my schedule means that I don't have enough time for a consistent IRC game, leaving PbP. Since this is a pretty major SR site with plenty of active games and posting, the choice was obvious.

Shadowrun occupies a magical place in my life. I don't have to create it, so it isn't a huge amount of hassle. It engages the mathematical portions of my mind—there's plenty of calculating to be had, but it isn't too difficult. There is a rich world with many things that are unrevealed yet that have enough surrounding information as to be able to be productively debated—this one's key, there are few other things I've encountered that can be productively debated about for months on end. Also, I've been here long enough that I know a lot of the people around and am generally known myself—this board is like the local bar, but minus the drunks brawls near-total lack of people I'd bother to talk to.

I came so I could finally know what my husband was talking about when he talked about DS. I stayed for the same reason I still like SR...the stories.
I can't get into the numbers part of it. Hell, on a bad day I'll tell you I'm a few years older than I am and actually believe it. But the history and personality you freaks put into your characters is highly addictive.
And then I discovered that we have talented writers here. So, though I lurk most days, yall are the literary crack for my bibliowhore soul.

Hey I originally came on here because of the sheer fact that for every trivia fact or SR question I or any of my players have, somebody on DS knows the answer, and an additional two are willing to flame the question for even being asked.

I stayed because I love SR, and am still in counselling over it. Oh, and the Drop Bear Thread.

I stay here because I like SR and I'm addicted to message boards.

Just kidding. Public domain, and all that.
My primary reason for lurking around here is to get information about rules-related stuff without bugging my GM.
Also, as mintcar and DocMortand said, there's a lot that I don't know about
SR--especially rules-wise--and getting ahold of my GM isn't always easy.
Soliciting opinions here on DSF, while it *does* get me flamed on occasion, is an excellent alternative.

Once upon a time, I had a job that was 90% waiting for my boss to have a computer problem, which I would then dazzle her by solving. I was just getting into SR then, and my GM recommended Dumpshock as a place to go to learn more about the game. Two and a half years later, it's still good advice.

Shadowland had crashed around the same time Deep Resonance was starting up, so it was mainly to keep in touch with those people until it grew into something unholy and wicked.
Once upon a time, I came to dumpshock to read the shadowrun archive. Then I was only occasionaly lurking on the forum.
Can´t remember what I considered important enough to become a posting member. Nowadays it´s the people sharing my hobby and actually playing the game, rather than rolling the dice. Had to little of those in real life.
And yeah, I posted in the DBT in it´s earlier stages.
