Plus, even in-house couriers can defect; and these jokers may have had years of scanning documents to sell-out, while a runner you occasionally hire probably doesn't know crap all to sell.

In-house couriers are most likely outfitted cortex bombs as a 'security measure' to prevent them from capture or to protect corporate investments if the courier was ever compromized.

I completely agree. But that doesn't exactly guarantee loyalty, nor is it fool-proof. Nor is it for every courier.
