Thanks for heads up. The fact is, I am just about the most computer-inept human on the planet. I don't even own a computer. My friends can't believe I am getting into this hobby. But I love Shadowrun more than I can say, and my situation is just not conducive to table-top. (But even if it was I don't think I could give this up.)
Anyway, the long and the short of it is that I really don't understand what you just told me. But please don't trouble yourself further - I will muddle through.

Hey, just PMed my 'Famed Law Consultant' bg & stats preview. Iīm still working on typing the bg.
HeySparky
Oh! Is it Bob Loblaw? Does he have a law blog?
BlackHat
Something tells me when the group of nine normal people get thrust into the shadows, they'd be glad to have a lawyer among them. biggrin.gif

Heh, I donīt know who that is, but I guess itīs not my character nyahnyah.gif

Heīs probbaly not into blogging and if he were, it would more likely be about conspiracies (heīs a bit paranoid wink.gif).

It is allways good to have a lawyer while committing a crime. At least the typical lawyer wonīt have any second thoughts about stealing someone elses money wink.gif.
HeySparky
Bob Loblaw's Law Blog!

Come on, where're my AD people?
JackRipper
it would be hard for a lawyer to prove he lacked mens rea (intent to commit) if he's caught. While ignorance of the law is no excuse...you better believe having knowledge will get you screwed.
Ankle Biter
Ok, As the background is ok, here's a character sheet for ya...

Again, DON'T READ if you are a player in this game. Unless somebody else is based in London and wants to know a broadway starlet at start of play?

[ Spoiler ]
MK Ultra
@ JackRipper
Youīre probably right, but you donīt have to tell the cops you where a lawyer, do you? Off cause a lawyer would use other tactics to prevent persecution, then faking ignorance, which as you stated is a weak defense anyway.

@ Ankle Biter
My character was born in London. I donīt know where to put his headquaters, yet (probably in the UCAS, though) but he will still have contacts there and is active internationally, anyway. So if your starlet has much money (or powerfull friends) and was in need of some law consultant (maybe to get out of an old contract), they might have met each other before. Still if you like to form a conection, Iīd suggest you post some introduction for me about your pc and the situation she needed help with, and Iīd in turn post a description of my pc for you, then we could see how good they would plausibly know each other and exchange info accordingly.
Cedric Rolfsson
Jack, I would politely remind you, it is NEVER the defendant's responsiblity to prove or disprove any elements of the crime. Its always the responsibility of the prosecutor to prove the elements, including the mens rea.

Most crimes that runners commit though aren't going to be difficult to prove mens rea. It's hard to convince a jury "Oh, I thought I'd received an invitation to enter into the top secret lab and persue the research data." or "The alleged victim gave me persmission to commit the multiple assaults."

Remember, when presenting a case to a jury, actions speak louder than words. Which is why the rules of evidence are so dam wonderful!!! devil.gif
JackRipper
All that being true, a jury can be swayed (there is generally no love loss on Lawyers anyways) by the prosecuter easily in the case of a lawyer. An expert of the law isnt just breaking it during a crime ad hoc....he has expert knowledge and can arguably be breaking it with malice if just not pure intent.

Also, you'd be lucky in game to be prosecuted by Government court. Corporate law from what i've read is draconian (or in the case of Sauder Krupp...its dragon) YUK YUK
Abbandon
MK Ultra if you have read Ankle Biters spoilers that he asked players not to read dont talk about it in the open lol. I had to quickly bypass out of respect to Ankle but use spoilers dude.

HeySparky
Abbandon, Ankle Biter threw out to everyone that his character was a London-based starlet. So MK wasn't breaking the spoilers at all.
MK Ultra
Didnīt read them.

We have till about this weekend, right?

I've gotten a little busy, but I want to finish my submission soon.

I'm not sure why I've seen it... but when folks post their addresses here (and elsewhere) they tend to post it as

alias (at) domain (dot) com

I'm sure it has to do with spam. Just not sure what. Just an FYI adamu, in case you want to edit your addy. AND, noted about your inbox.

There are email address data miners who write programs to scan web sites and forums to grab any text in the form of ###@###.com. Which means it's safer to obscure your email by using the technique suggested.

This thread title might also generate the wrong kind of interest... at first thought I really wondered what kind of recruiting was going on in here.
JDragon
OK character and background PM'ed.

Let me know if I missed something.

September - I have hardened the deadline at 10:00 pm Saturday night (15th) London time. Anyone with a background and a sheet in by inbox by then will be duly considered.
adamu
Okay, this is getting seriously painful. The quality of submissions I am receiving is really good, and I know more are coming.
Before I was really stressed about having to turn down people who had worked hard on their submissions, but now I am adding the quandary of really wanting to GM way more of these characters than I can.
I really wish I just was independently wealthy so that I could take more on (of course, I wish I was independently wealthy anyway).

I have so far received full submissions from the following. If you think you submitted and your name is not below, let me know right away and we'll figure out what went wrong.

(almost finished)

To give you some idea of how I intend to handle so many players,
A) Every game I have seen on this board has suffered about 25-50% attrition, with those games at the high end of that range just dying out.
B) Some people may die.
C) Even if no one leaves the game, I have plans to sort of form two teams and run both.

So no one worry about being on a ten person team and not getting to do anything. Ooops, did I say ten? I really wish I could make it fifteen. Depending on how time-consuming this turns out to still be in three months from now....

For the statistic-conscious, of the 12 submissions above, I have

7 males
5 females

2 humans
2 orks
2 trolls
and
6 elves

That is not intended to steer anyone toward or away from certain genders or metatypes. I am not a person who insists on every team having one dwarf rigger, one troll adept, one human hacker, one elf mage, and one ork sammie. I am more for teams coalescing based on interesting role-playing possibilities than profession, and heck, half the submissions I have received don't fit any shadowrunner archetype anyway - which is the point.
The stats are just for fun.

I very much look forward to submissions through Saturday night (my time).
HeySparky
I don't think I'll ever understand why people like elves so much. Or, more to the point, why they piss me off so.

This bit dosen't need spoilering, as it is not really final.

Ok, how about a carrying a concealed weapon charge in the UK, that you got me out of on some tecnicality?

For exapmple I could have got busted for, say, bimbling around London drunk, carrying a huge big greek kebab knife...

It would kind of work post big event too, as I could have said I owed you a favour, and you may want to call it in now all your friends hate you, or perhaps I just suddenly feel the need for a good lawyer....
MK Ultra
@Ankle Biter

Ah, that sounds cool. IIRC the Shadowrun UK had real draconian weapons laws (but Iīd have to check back with my palīs London SB for the actal charges) and with the events started in Shadows of Europe they probably became even more tense about it.
For the details and timetable...

[ Spoiler ]
BlueRondo
No dwarfs yet? That's too bad.
MK Ultra
Hehe, my verry first SR-character (a human decker) hated dwarfs. Maybe I should indulge in some nostalgia ;p (just kidding, the pc Iīm submitting is no racist, or at least I would lye to all of you about it, if he was).
HeySparky
Apologies if I missed it.

What's the IC start date. Roughly.

Pragma,

Unlikely, though if you were in London post crash 2.0 and took in a show, you may have seen my character on stage...
Antihero
All the ideas are making my head hurt.... ganger turned priest, bike messenger adrenaline junky, Secret Service Agent.

Gaaah! There can be only one.

Must resist urge to create them all, must focus on one. (And must do it soon, apparently.)
adamu
ES Sparky - the game will start in 2070. The start dates will be staggered quite a bit because different players' events will require longer to resolve in game time (though I hope for them to be comparable in real time).

And Ankle Biter/MK Ultra - please keep in mind that with the game starting in 2070, and Elektra 19 or 20 at that time, talking about being in mid-career and/or meeting MK around the time of the Crash (2064) will have you just barely pubescent. I would suggest bringing those dates up slightly.
Ankle Biter
Sorry, didn't make that clear, mid career was the average way I would be through my career at any given point after the crash as my career started just after the crash as a child actor...

sent in my last changes to my char. I shouldnt have to update the base char sheet unless you find something wrong now.
HeySparky
I haven't put together the time to do concepts up, certainly not to the level that this game wants and certainly not before the deadline. Which is a real shame, this game sounded really interesting. smile.gif

Good luck all! And have fun.
adamu
Okey dokey - it's now a bit past 10 pm Saturday night London time, which was the deadline I set.
So submissions are now closed.
But that may not matter so much, because no new ones have come in since the initial flood during the first half of the week. Maybe my post listing the twelve applicants to that point scared everyone off.

That post was July 12 at 10:24 if you want to refer back to it. Because that's the final admission list. So although I was a bit disappointed that a few of the ideas that had been floated never got turned in, at least I didn't have to make any hard choices....except one....

You may recall my plan to over-recruit, and if by some miracle no one dropped out, maneuver you all into two teams. Well, the more I thought about the possibilities of running two teams during the same game-time in the same city, the more cool ideas came to mind.
That plus the surprising fact that each and every submission I received was truly freaking outstanding led me to the decision to expand recruitment to 12.

But anyway, before we launch into all that talk about teams, we have 12 mini-campaigns to run.

Here are some deadlines I am setting myself. I will PROBABLY beat these deadlines, posting earlier, but I really like to keep my commitments, so I set deadlines you can count on.
OOC thread will start Wednesday the 19th at the latest.

The first week will be final details, carving your character stats in stone, last chance to have some say about how we drive you into the shadows (some people have offered great ideas, some have left it to me - either way okay, whichever will be more fun for you). Also during that first week my posts will be more limited than usual because of some real world crap. I will always let you know when that happens, by the way.

IC thread to start Wednesday the 26th at the latest.

I will tell you right now, it won't be all at once. I will be starting four players off a week over three weeks (again, the conservative estimate - it could be much faster). That will help me keep my head straight, and give me time to do each story justice, as the initial posts are the most crucial.

The first OOC thread will be long and contain lots of ground rules for how things will work.
I am really looking forward to the opportunity to serve as your gamemaster. I promise I will make every effort to make it a rewarding experience for all.
adamu
Konsaki
How will the pre-event stuff be held? Same IC thread or individual threads?
BlueRondo
I think individual threads would unnecessarily clutter up the board, but having twelve stories in a single thread might also be a bit confusing. Perhaps a new thread for each four-character "batch" would be a fair compromise.

Also, to Adamu, I'd like to say thanks for including me. I've never played a Shadowrun game before, and perhaps a game led by a self-proclaimed "demanding and anal GM" is not the ideal place for a rookie. To me, however, "demanding and anal" sounds like high quality standards, and I look forward to playing a high quality game (and, I hope, not dying too early in the process.)

To the players, out of curiosity, would anyone like to introduce his or her character?
Abbandon
Cedric Rolfsson Jonathan Frost, male ork ?????
Konsaki--Caittie "Dreamer" Natome, female Technomancer?
JDragon--Angus Smith, male, troll physical adept
Dire Radiant--Harriet Hojnacki, female ork ????
Ankle Biter--Electra, female elf face
Blue Rondo--Carla Sanchez, female human ????
Mister Juan

pragma
--Gregory Blaine, male Elf ????
Abbandon--Cerberus, male troll samurai
BlackHat--Adam Lear, male ????
MK Ultra
Ankle Biter
Electra, female Elf face.

Look forward to runnin with y'all.
JDragon
Angus Smith - Troll Pysical Adept

Looking forward to the game as well.

JDragon
Konsaki
Caittie "Dreamer" Natome
16 - Female - Elf
Highschool Student and "Hidden Technomancer"
BlackHat
Adam Lear
22 - College Student
His luck has just run out....
adamu
Konsaki and Blue Rondo - I think Blue Rondo's idea is good, I will post an IC thread for each of the three 'waves' for the first stage of the game, though they will eventually have to merge or people will have to jump to different threads.

Abbandon - thanks for reposting the final list. I have not attached character names because everyone is basically in a transition between citizen names and street names. And I prefer not to pigeonhole professional classifications. But you guys should talk about yourselves all you want, of course.
BlueRondo
Heh, after suggesting it, I haven't even introduced my own character.

Carla Sanchez, Human, 25, Medical Student.
DireRadiant
Harriet Hojnacki, Tusker, 26, day laborer.
adamu
Okay, this will probably not be my first cry for computer help, but -

How do I stick the little blue OoC icon on the title for the new thread?
