I remember from months ago some talk of a PDF of the never published book Shadows of Latin America becoming available. I signed up at the site and never heard of it again. Does anyone know if it is available somewhere?

TIA!
fistandantilus4.0
No. It never will be .. ever . thank you for tearing open that particular scar. frown.gif

In all seriousness though, they decided not to acutally publish it, and there's occassionally talk about this myth called holostreets. Personally, I've stopped holding my breath. I passed out a few times. It was bad. The pdf I don't know, although it would be great. I think the focus is more on getting SR4 out right now, which , IIRC, is why they decided not to publish it. Which I really don't get personally. AFAIK they had it done. Just other printing priorities I guess.

And soon, more people will stop in here, we will say our words of dissapointment, and this will all fade away again. sad.
Dizzo Dizzman
That is a shame. You would think there would be a decent market for it since Shadows of Asia just went into a second printing. I imagine a lot of people here would be willing to shell out some $$$ for a PDF. Since it is already done, it sounds like free money to me.

Oh well, thanks for the reply.

yeah NP. It comes up every few months. We all still secretly hope, but pretend now to, so we don't cry. dead.gif

SOLA wasn't finished to the point of being "free money."

Yeah, the admins are friendlier. Or grittier. Depends on who you ask.

I know Holostreets has been delayed a lot, I know it's started to seem like it will never happen, but substantial progress on getting a site up was made at GenCon. Don't lose hope yet.

Like someone got kicked in the ass to start working? nyahnyah.gif Or just a sutble threat that a team was being put together for a messy extraction of SOLA? cool.gif

...yeah, major is a disappointment since I'm still running in SR3 and will be for some time to come. Could have really made use of SoLA for a future campaign I have been plotting considering this is where one of the corp players (Aztechnology) is based.

Seems like they've totally given up on SR3. But then, why a second printing of SoA & why hasn't the cover price on all other SR3 material been reduced if they are so hot about SR4? Doesn't make much sense.

That be well over year-old news. nyahnyah.gif

Because SoA is, as will be SoLA, quite applicable to SR4 games. Those fluff books are largely edition independant.

BTW Runner Havens definately falls into that catagory, and it has 4 pages on Caracas. I just picked up the PDF because one of my groups is just starting a campaign in Hong Kong, which FINALLY has a nice big 55ish page write-up.

Its just easier to lose hope, so that all my suprises will be nice and all that. It's liek waiting for Christmas, except it didn't come in December, and now it's August.
Synner
Nobody wants to see SoLA published more than the people who worked on it. The book has some really nice material by Demonseed Elite, Ancient History, JongWK, Joćo Nunes and a bunch of talented locals. As Jason has mentioned significant advances were made at GenCon and we're hoping Holostreets will have good news for everyone in the near future.

SR4 is the current edition and FanPro no longer supports SR3. That being said many of the fluff books at the tail end of SR3 were developed with as least rules content as possible to facilitate integration with SR4. The vast majority of the material in SoE, SoA, Loose Alliances and eventually SoLA is fully compatible with the SR4 setting with minimal tweaks. Releasing second printings of a fluff book when demand is still high is simply good business sense. Dropping prices on SR3 books when they're still selling well and there's still stock is bad business sense — losing those potential profits is what wouldn't make much sense.

So if/when it does happen, are you guys going to include things that were cut for wordcount in other books as well?
BookWyrm
I still await it, even though I have lost hope in seeing it in my lifetime.

Just to raise old specters. Wasn't this at least on line or something?

I'm looking for details of Beunos Ares and Montivideo.

That was the plan. It was supposed to be included with the long awaited HoloStreets, but at the moment that has been put by the wayside.
Snow_Fox
So it exists no where available to the general public frown.gif

Anyone with any clues to what's what at the mouth of the River Platte?

The Missouri River? wink.gif

Being serious for a moment since this is about Shadows of Latin America I'm assuming you meant the River Plate. In that case still Argentina and Uruguay (and as Fortune already said silt). We know that Argentina is still around from previous sourcebooks and since one of the freelancers that worked on the book comes from Uruguay IIRC I think we can probably still expect that it's still there as well. smile.gif

On an unrelated note I'll be interested to see what they did with Ciudad del Este. As is now it's a great location, after Amazonia comes to power and seals the border not so much. I suppose you could have it as a jumping off point for sending undercover research teams into the jungle but since they cleared out all the towns and cities that rules out large scale smuggling and the Amazonians probably keep a close eye on the area so there'd be better places to make an insertion I'd think. Shame really.
Daddy's Little Ninja
Knowing how SF's mind runs she really does want details on the river/border itself.

I think I remember hearing that it is actually fresh water at that point because of the force of the river. I think I have also heard of disputes between the two RL nations because of industry.
Kanada Ten
There was a joke about the "elusive Shadows of Latin America upload" in the shadowtalk for - er Havens or Enclaves. Didn't know whether to laugh or sigh.

You are correct. Between Argentina and Uruguay over a proposed pulp mill apparently.
MaxHunter
As I am from Montevideo, I can tell you the proposed pulp mill is up and running.

There is a big group of environmentalists from Argentina who are really angry/worried about it so they sometimes block the bridges in the Argentina-Uruguay border. It is a really convoluted issue and there are a couple conspiracy theories but it would definitely make the perfect frame for a shadowrun.

BTW: the coast alongside the River Plate is quite beautiful, particularly now that it's summer.

I would personally love to see SoLA if it ever comes out.

Sigh,

Max

Yeah, that was one thing that came to mind, environmentalist arguments and a radical Amazonia? plus Is the wreck of the german Battleship Graf Spee still there?

Add in metapirhana fish and I'm good to go.
MaxHunter
yep, the Graf Spee wreck was to be found over here.

IIRC a few years ago they salvaged some interesting parts -some of them quite big- and there was some fuss about whether to sell them back to Germany or what.
Another interesting fact is that many of the former members of the crew stayed and settled in Montevideo, so sometimes rumours about WWII Nazi cabals hidden in the population come up in the media. I think I met one of those survivors who had become a quite unremarkable old fisherman in a small coastal town near Montevideo.

From your comments, however, I think you are a little misguided, If you ever come around here you will find the River Plate area quite... urban. No metapiranha around here. Chupacabras, on the other hand...

Cheers!

Max

Snow_Fox
Pirhana are good eating I'm told.
