LMAO. this is great biggrin.gif let me know when lou and kayla get in, preferably when rat and blackout are in the middle of something lou would have been too paranoid to let them do wink.gif
krishcane
Lou and Kayla are really only a few steps behind, so really they can arrive (and post) whenever the time feels right. smile.gif Mabye Rat and Blackout get something done, or maybe they're too busy feeling like they're in the middle of a commercial and so they just stand there confused.

--K
Miststlkr
i'll wait, when kayla makes an action i'll be there too, this seems like it could be fun for rat and blackout too nyahnyah.gif though i DO want one post just before we walk into the room nyahnyah.gif
krishcane
Got a snappy comment pending? smile.gif

--K
Miststlkr
always nyahnyah.gif

now i just have to remember it nyahnyah.gif
Miststlkr
Kayla want an action?

i can't remember what i was going to say now, but i'll come up with something. it'll be as they walk in the door so i wanted to make sure anyone who wanted something said before we got there had a chance nyahnyah.gif sorry if you were all waiting on me frown.gif
krishcane
Hey guys -- it look like illogik may possibly be away. He hasn't posted anywhere since he last posted in this run, and Kayla's long unconscious stint might have lost his attention. I privately messaged him to get his attention -- hopefully he'll log back in sometime and note that Kayla is now able to take action.

illogik, if you see this post, feel free to have Kayla wake up from her light nap at any time and take action.

Well, that's enough "aye" votes for it to continue.  We're only missing the Scrier.  He can chime in whenever he's ready.

I'll start the IC thread later today.

Regarding the GM having a life, here are my photos from Mt. St. Helens.  Now you can visualize the place.  smile.gif

--K

Edit:  The new IC:CageFight thread is active now!  The action is to Rat and Blackout.

Some nice pictures you have there. I loved St. Helens when I was there in the early-to-mid-90's...hmm.... There’s a thought! I should go visit my Uncle in Washington in the near future… It would be a rather interesting daytrip to go back and see the changes at St. Helens after nearly 10 years, I don’t know if I can stand my Uncle for more than a few hours at a shot, he only talks about two subjects, guns and airplanes I don’t care much for either.

Some random guy who randomly stumbled in to your post and sat staring at your pictures for 10 minutes as they loaded 1 at a time over my slow connection and afterward randomly decided to post some random information.
krishcane
Works for me. Glad you liked the photos.

--K
Dark Scrier
Are we dead?
krishcane
I'm still here. It's up to the players to do what they want to do next. The elf lady is content to lounge and drink beer with them all day, if that's what they'd like to do. smile.gif

illogik doesn't seem to be on the boards anymore, so Kayla is on autopilot. I'm not sure what the status is with Lou and the Rat. Maybe everyone is waiting on everyone else?

--K
Dark Scrier
Yeah, like that could ever happen.

Seriously, I was waiting for someone else to do something.
krishcane
I think if a week goes by, you can assume that everyone has done whatever they were going to do. Feel free to do something yourself.

That's good advice for life in general, I think. smile.gif

--K
krishcane
Wooooooo-whee! Have I ever been busy...

This is a bump to bring Cage Fight's OOC thread back on the radar. I'm available to get this moving again -- apologies for the slow-time we've gone into lately. I've got some good stories... First I was up in Ohio testing toward my second-degree black belt. That involved free-response stand-up fighting, blind ground-fighting, energy exercises with the sword, technique demonstration, multiple attacker demonstration, adaptability tests (learn a new move in 120 seconds!), tests of focus, and some ethical commentary. It went well, but it's just the first of a few tests, spread out over the next 6 to 9 months, in order to get my second degree.

Then it we had Thanksgiving holidays, which surely distracted everyone. Being a vegetarian, I enjoyed a nice tofurkey.

Then I was off on my Carribean cruise with the rest of the ninja clan. We went to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel, Mexico. Days at sea were spent doing martial training on the boat. That was a blast. Also spent a few days in New Orleans on the way out and back. We went diving in Cayman and Cozumel, including my first wreck dive. I'll put some pictures up somewhere and post a link.

So now, I'm back in town and we can continue with the run... I think we should do a roll-call of players, since all this time has passed.

-- If you've got a character currently active in Cage Fight, say "Present!" (That would be possibly Glyph, illogik, Dark Scrier, and Mistlker)

-- If you're Digital Heroin and still want to play once the current run wraps up and the team hits Seattle again, say "Ready and waiting!"

-- If you're somebody else who wants in in case one of the above people isn't available anymore, say "Hoping!"

Thanks!

--K
Glyph
Present! ...Aw, now that just gets me right into the Christmas spirit. biggrin.gif

By the way, I will give the "roll call" a bit before I jump right in with another IC post.
snowRaven
Hoping! grinbig.gif
Digital Heroin
"Ready and Waiting!"

Err... just need to find Jimmy's sheet... I know it's here somewhere...
krishcane
Cool. I'll wait until, say, next Monday to consider the roll-call official. Then we'll make a plan with who we have.

--K
Dark Scrier
Due to the timing of my only checking of dumpshock in the last month or so, I'll be present. If this game is getting kicking again, I want back in.
krishcane
Hey! Lucky for you and us that your instincts called you back to DS. smile.gif

Okay, so it looks like Rat (Glyph) and Blackout (Dark Scrier) are still "in the game". Kayla (illogik) and Mststlker (Lou) are unaccounted for.

Glyph and Dark Scrier... post away IC and let's wrap this run up and get the kids back to Seattle with Blondie. Once that's done, DigitalH can get involved again and possibly snowRaven too if we don't hear from illogik or Mststlker by then.

--K
snowRaven
Personally I'm hoping to see Kayla and Lou stay in the game upsidedown.gif (but still, I just can't pass up the chance to join this one...)
krishcane
That's generous of you. However, it's probably not a problem for you either. illogik last posted to DSF on August 25th, almost 4 months ago. Miststlker last posted Oct. 14th, 2 months ago. People get busy, and I'm guessing those two people have gotten busy. The only thing holding you and DigitalH back now is that the game has to get back to Seattle so you can join in.

--K
snowRaven
Sounds good - just let me know what my limits are for a character and I'll have one for your approval asap
krishcane
Just for your own sanity, you might want to wait until the game gets back to Seattle, as that could still take a couple of weeks real-life-time, what with the holidays coming up. I know that once someone makes a character, they want to play them right away, so if you make it now, you'll be all itchy waiting for things to get rolling.

That said, if you want to take on that mental burden.... the chargen rules are the full published SR3 rules (ie. including SR companion, etc., but no online stuff or house rules) using the BP system presented in SR Companion. You get 40 BPs.

I know there are always 10,000 interpretive questions with chargen -- most of them won't be an issue with 40 BPs. About Edges & Flaws, feel free to take them but no more than 5 Flaws or 6 total BPs gained from all your Flaws (I believe that's the published advice).

My suggestion is to post the PC here -- if you're adverse to that, I'll give you an email to send 'em to.

--------------------------------

Digital Heroin, I have a copy of Jimmy. Do you want me to post him here, or email him to you?

--K
snowRaven
Don't worry - I'll keep an eye on the progress of the game for timing and I'll post the character here; that's fine

For the time being I'll just play around and see what concepts I can do within the bounds and still keep it interesting. When (and if - you never know...) the time comes I'll be ready upsidedown.gif
krishcane
I was just back reading the old forums thread on Cage Fight -- Rat's negotiation with Martin the Fixer and the street doc in the basement, Lou's procurement of his first impromptu Phoenix shringe... that was some sweet stuff. As much as the High Magic was an interesting detour, I think we need to get this campaign back to the streets where these half-ass characters shine... Glyph or Scrier, tell this Ehran guy what you're about and we'll bust to the next scene...

*chuckles*
Is it too late to say "hoping"? =)

I just happened upon this thread, very entertaining run so far... I love the way you players (and you, Krish) have fleshed out these characters as believable street-rats-(pun intended wink.gif)-turned-shadowrunners. Once you guys get back in the sprawl, I think I'd be interested in hopping in too, if there's still such an opportunity. (Can't really play weekends, but weekdays are all good wink.gif)

40 bp is really interesting ... how do you handle magic? I normally do love the adepty-fu stuff, though I confess that even with a bucket of flaws, it's rather challenging to build a character. (I'm picturing a street urchin kinda fresh off the boat from hong kong... maybe a mini-adept, butprobably not, and with acupuncture as a flavor variant of biotech smile.gif)
Glyph
I'm going to try to work on Rat's post this weekend. What I think I might do is email you his plan, dialogue, etc. and let you work it into one big descriptive post - posting back and forth would be a lot more awkward than just letting you know what he's trying to do so you can resolve it.
krishcane
Works for me, Glyph. I presume you still have my email... if for some reason you don't, private-message it through the Forums function.

gknoy, you can be the other "hoping". You're in line right after snowRaven. smile.gif Weekdays are all good -- typically I'm only on weekdays myself (exception being right now). Thanks for the compliments, by the way. It's fun to play street trash! smile.gif

--K
Glyph
I'm sure I have your email addy somewhere, but I just went ahead and private messaged you. So that's Rat's plan... you can figure out how it works out (or doesn't).
krishcane
It's a cool plan, and by cool, I mean totally sweet. smile.gif I don't have time for a thoughtful post today -- come Monday, I'll dazzle you. Promise.

On a completely unrelated side note... went to see Last Samurai and I was very pleased. That film comes very close to the way my training proceeds now -- even though we consider ourselves descended from the ninja lineage, the samurai and ninja traded places during history more than is usually acknowledged. The Last Samurai is a nice reference piece for when I'm trying to explain to people what I do. I'd all but given up on Hollywood's ability to portray anything well at all. I'm very pleased indeed. smile.gif

--K
snowRaven
I've been having my doubts about Last Samurai, but if you say it's good I'll give it a chance upsidedown.gif

Btw, I got a character pretty much finished - only problem is there are two versions of him. One might be iffy...not sure. I'll work abit to finish him and then I'll post a link to him here - you can give the verdict. (I came up with tons of concepts for 40Bps characters when I started thinking... it's alot of fun trying to make something original and useful within those limits!) grinbig.gif
Digital Heroin
I have Jimmy on my busted ass laptop IIRC (literally busted now, damned snapping case strap)... so I'm good to go...
krishcane
snowRaven -- I was iffy on the Last Samurai too, but yeah, it's worthwhile.

When you get your PC done, I'll be happy to take a look. I'm always entertained by what people come up with on 40 BP.

DH -- Cool!

--K

If there's still a chance, I'd like to be added to the "hoping" list. I've been watching this game up until the break in October, and I'd like to have a swing if possible. It's one of the most fun things I've seen on this board in ages.

Glyph
It's been great fun, and it's also a rarity on these boards. Take a look at some of the old threads, and you will find that most of these games wind up dying pretty soon. This game actually lasted - we had the initial meeting, the bar fight, the meet with Blondie, the fight at the restaurant, and our run into the wilderness, along with all of the meetings and little character bits. And I like playing Rat.

By the way, great last post to finish up that chapter, Krishcane.
Digital Heroin
I also have my 40BP Ghoul pimp on my laptop, actually... *ponders* Not that he'd actually fit in or anything...
snowRaven
Okay here's my suggestion for a character - the three spoliers are requests and/or concerns directed for krishcane, and the 50 questions is in a spoiler tag because of space reasons. upsidedown.gif

krishcane
Snowraven, Web looks good so far. How do I access the spoilers? I'm not sure on this new board how to turn those on. Or do you want to private-mssage me the spoiler data? I'm curious! smile.gif

gknoy, we haven't heard from Mitstlkr or illogik, so you're in. Feel free to submit a character as soon as you are ready to do so. The door closes behind you -- our 5 players for the next scene are:

DigitalH -- Jimmy the decker
Glyph -- Rat the street scrounger
DarkScrier -- Blackout the martial artist
Snowraven -- Web the spider adept
gknoy -- unknown, possible adept

Amazingly, it took 6 months of real-time to get through the last 1 day of game-time -- the Ehran the Scribe run. Damn. It might go a little faster for the next one, since holidays tended to interfere here.

For the current batch of characters, I'd like to award some karma along with their 2000 nuyen:

Group karma: Survival 1, getting the fingerprints 1, roleplaying 1
Rat: Good plan for the prints! -- 1 pt.
Kayla and Lou: Bravery at various points early on -- 1 pt.

That means 3 points for Blackout, 4 points for Kayla, Lou, and Rat. Let me know how you want to spend 'em!

--K

krishcane
Current good karma totals, for spending purposes:

Rat: 4
Blackout: 10
Lou: 5
Kayla: 4

As well, Lou and Kayla (the humans) achieved a karma pool of 2 as a result of this run. Blackout and Rat still have KP 1.

--K
Glyph
I'm going to go through the old thread this weekend and make sure Rat is up to date on my sheet as far as Karma, gear, etc., then I'll let you know what I do with the Karma. Don't forget that Rat has Bad Karma on top of being metahuman - his Karma Pool will tend to go up pretty slowly.
snowRaven
krishcane - just clicking on the [ spolier ] tag should make it appear - if it doesn't work let me know and we'll work around that =)

Apologies for being slow -- I jsut got back into town. =/

Click the "spoiler" - it opens via some awesome CSS stuff. =)

My character's a mundane martial artist; chinese street kid, basically. (I don't know why, but my last two chars have been Chinese. Go figure.)

I have a martial art listed (wushu), but I don't have the book for it so I don't know whatthe disadvantages/advantages are over other arts (like kung fu smile.gif); I just wanted to have some "hook" that made him different. wink.gif

I /could/ make him an adept with some work; how do we do that? Can we do it on a partial-basis, where I only get a few power points in exchange for less cost? (an adept with 1's in stats and few skills but lots of powers doesn't appeal to me as much wink.gif). I love physical adepts, so this resonates pretty strongly with me. But for now: Hard to fit in all that I want. wink.gif

I'll post my char after I get NSRCG to Do My Bidding a little better. Hopefully in the next hour or so. =)
gknoy
"Needles" (Chen Wu)
Mundane Human

This post has been replaced with the more-easily-editable character sheet on my own site:

Apparently, editing a message with Spoilers in it cuts off the message after the first spoiler. Dang. =/
I just noticed that I forgot contacts. I'm assuming that I'll need one contact such as the bartender fellow, or someone else otherwise connected. Perhaps cleaning help for the bar would work too for the day job. wink.gif

So, I'll leave one contact open, and the other one will be .. hmm ... What do you guys think is a good idea? smile.gif I think maybe a street doc (since Needles has healing skill to help out, or something)... A little help here? smile.gif

Also, I'm not happy with the knowledge skills -- I just realized that a chinese healer should have some knowledge of herbal and other folk remedies -- so I think tonight when I get home, I might nuke and re-post. (sorry smile.gif)
Glyph
You know, actually mundanes tend to start out much better off than adepts with 40 BP. They have some stats and skills of 3 or 4 instead of 1 or 2. Making an awakened character with 40 BP is a fun exercise in creativity, but you will be very underpowered. Not that Rat is min-maxed, either (heck, I gave him uncouth and computer illiterate, which fit him, but are two of the most crippling Flaws out there). Actually, it should be fun seeing Blackout have a fellow martial artist in the group.
krishcane
Okay, I've checked out everyone's spoilers and the new PCs.

snowRaven -- Web looks great and fun. I'm fine with all the questions you asked in the spoilers -- African version is good, his flaws are good, geasa are good. Min-maxing is expected with 40 BP. smile.gif I'm not quite sure how to introduce Web and integrate him, but I'll work something out. Good character -- I like his detailed background.

gknoy -- Generally Needles is solid. As Glyph commented, you're a lot more functional as a mundane. Long-term, adepts have more potential, but long-term development isn't going to happen in this game due to the pace of play. He could always think he's an adept but not actually be one -- I've known a few people like that IRL. wink.gif

I have a couple of comments for you: Where is the 2-pt Poverty flaw from? I've never seen it before -- I guess it's a NSCRG-only item?

For your spoiler questions....

Also, gknoy, do you have any background in acupuncture, chi practice, or martial arts in real life? What is your inspiration when you visualize these things?

I look forward to the Questions to see Needles' background.

To Everyone -- I'll be contemplating how this particular group will end up working together.... in the meantime, those of you who have karma to spend or shopping to do, let me know. According to my records, Jimmy has 3 good karma and 1000 nuyen from his first "run". Blackout has 10 good karma and 150 nuyen. Rat has 4 good karma and 925 nuyen.

QUOTE

None whatsoever. *laughs*. I picked Wushu (as opposed to kung fu) due to the mental image I have: I picture Needles as more the contemplative, healing/fighting monk-type (were he in a different time wink.gif), rather than a young Bruce Lee -type. (Thanks for the description of what Whirling does -- don't know if I'll ever need it, but stylistically it is exactly what I wanted smile.gif)

As for acupuncture ... as I've answered the 50+ questions, I've come to have a better conception of how my character uses this. (I'll be re-writing my character sheet to reflect this, probably, with some minor changes.) Basically, I see him as an apprentice healer; I know that in Chinese medicine, many ailments, maladies, and sources-of-pain are seen as caused by restrictions of energy flow, and such (though I don't know much more than that -- might say my Knowledge skill in that area is a little less than 1 wink.gif), and that acupuncture is one of the ways used to treat that. I don't think that Needles would have been trained only in poking-sharp-things-into-people and not have the background in other healing stuff; I see my Biotech as used for normal healing roles, while the acupuncture simply reflects the added study in that regard...

Now that I've asked for the acupuncture-as-first-aid, I'm not sure it make sense. D'oh. I mean, it wouldn't stop any bleeding, etc ... so I expect I'll still have to do normal First Aid stuff like bandaging, etc. I think that acupuncture would be used more for long-term care, but (from what I just googled up, hehe) it can also be used to treat acute pain, so I'm hoping it'd be usable to help heal stun damage faster; I don't /think/ that would completely break the balance of how stun damage works. smile.gif

I agree with Glyph completely on mundanes. smile.gif I'd rather be a mundane and have the healing skills than be an adept (which is rare smile.gif).

The poverty flaw was in NSRCG - I don't know where they got it; if there's a canonical 1-pt flaw, I can re-do it using that. In fact, I think that might actually make more sense, when tied to the day job: It's rare that someone has a job but NO cash on hand. Also, I considered the day job flaw based on hours involved, not on income: I think 1k/month is a little high for someone that washes dishes in the slums. *winks* I'll let you pick an income that's appropriate; I'm thinking that maybe he can work in the kitchen of that restaurant/buffet that was used as a meeting place early in the run? (if that's not too upscale...).

Many apologies on the 50+ questions not being done yet -- I have about three left.
gknoy
It seems that editing messages with spoilers is completely borked; I've therefore moved my character sheet off the board to my own site (hey, lets me display the 50Q's better, too smile.gif).

http://www.anasazisystems.com/~gknoy/sotsw...sw/needles.html

Changes made:
- Reduced Japanese: he wouldn't have had the chance on the boat to learn it THAT well, IMO
- Added scrounging as a knowledge skill. A must-have.
- Replaced Chi manipulation with Chinese Medicine, to better reflect that he's not just an acupuncturist, but a chinese healer -- and that they're connected. Ideally, I'd also have an acupuncture theory knowledge skill, too...
- I now have a whole 1 nuyen leftover! yay! (maybe I should have spent that extra 10 chargen-nuyen on some food ... hmm ... that's what scrounging is for, i guess.)

Known Problems:
- I still have about 3 of the 50 questions unanswered. I suppose that's OK for now. smile.gif
- I need contacts. frown.gif Krishcane, I'll let you give me one that'll help me fit in with the group/setting better (perhaps my employer?). The other will be a street doc, I think.
- Need a job. smile.gif I'd like something like washing dishes, or some other low-wage job; if it's not dishwashing, I'll alter my BG accordingly. wink.gif I'll let you choose the name of the establishment (whether you'd like it to be an existing one, or one that hasn't been in the story).

~ Gabriel
IcyCool
krischane, I'd like to be added to the "hoping" list. Looks like you have a full house for now, but I'm patient wink.gif

As far as character creation is concerned, it's 40 BP, and anything from the books, right? Or are you requiring us to use one of the computer character gen programs?

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what's in store for the new crew in this chapter.
