I just want to make sure I understand the driving and shooting part of the vehicle section.
every IP the driver or rigger must make a driving test. If the driver/rigger chooses to do anything else (ie fire a weapon) the vehicle will be considered out of control. The driver/rigger needs to make a test to regain control on the next IP.
is that right?
I mean obviously he can turn the Auto Pilot on to not be out of control.

No, it's actually one complex action per combat turn (or chase turn in chase combat). Unless you do something with your vehicle that requires additional vehicle tests, of course.

so if a rigger has 3 IP then he only has to make a control test during one his 3 possible complex actions in that turn?

yes...
unless he decides to perform a dangerous manuever.
with 3 initiative passes you can:
IP1: Control test
IP2: Sensor Lock
IP3: Fire weapon

or of course, you can just not make the test and hope you don't fail the crash test
