Orion's world view is straight from the Sons propaganda leafleets - magic is corrupting, it destroys anyone it touches and so forth. He hasn't given it much thought actually, just been listening to what is said at the rallies. Ok so they don't say "shoot them!" but the sentiment is there, it's not that hard to extrapolate what the speakers are really thinking. But who knows? This might change if he was actually to speak to a mage
yoippari
Mar 21 2007, 08:38 AM
High Rise's view on mages is that they are people like everyone else, but they are people who are born with the ability to summon a tank or can enslave others with a thought. There must be a serious temptation to do that as several mages have shown over the years, so they must be monitored. Registration lets the government do that, all the others are under the jurisdiction of whoever happens to be passing by. What's the saying, "In God We Trust, In Everyone Else We Monitor."
If a mage avoids registration, that is "probable cause." If they avoid registration and never use their abilities, bonus points for the effort, but they should have registered. Registered or not if they use magic to the detriment of society.. Goodbye mage.

@2bit:
Regarding last IC post (I don't know how to link directly to a single post..) when Alfred shows us the security cam footage - is it as he says, Malcolm, who handed it to Alfred or did he really say it was the manager, Jessie Reynolds? Cause if it was M.Jackson I'm curious about how he managed to get hold of this tape... thought it was Reynolds the manager who had contacted Alfred after Jackson came to him. This could also be me misunderstanding things
2bit
Mar 21 2007, 06:44 PM
The footage was from a camera that Jackson set up and recorded himself. I'll edit Alfred's dialog to make that clear.

Null's views on magic would also be almost straight out of their propoganda. Their power comes from hostile extradimensional forces, so they are, at best, unkowing collaborators who slowly (and inevitably) get corrupted by their powers. They can be "cured" by using drugs or cyberware to sever their link to their unholy power, but only if it is done before it turns them completely evil.
In a way, he views "normal" mages the same way that they would view insect shamans - as thralls of extradimensional beings with an utterly alien mindset who are hostile towards metahumanity. Also, as a former addict, he sees magic as another form of addiction, one that, like his, leads to inevitable moral and mental decay.

By the way: instead of using the :nuyen : tag which on subscribed thread e-mail and when pictures don't load right ends up displaying the tag text try using alt+0165. It uses the actual ¥ character instead of a .gif and is usable everywhere ascii characters are (I think). So it works on .txt character sheets as well.

I figure piggy backing off the guard's commlink is simple partial mesh networking and wouldn't require a roll.
You want me to roll the track and scan or you?

Apr 16 2007, 10:47 PM
@yoippari: Ok - matrix can get confusing so I'll try to explain the situation as I see it. To keep from getting bogged down, we'll go my way for now and if you or someone else can explain why I'm mistaken, then we'll correct it for the future.
The lobby node is public, but configured so that unless you are a user on the building's network, you must make a request from within the device's signal range to talk to it. You can do this from Malleus's commlink, assuming he's given you enough access to do that, or through the guard's commlink, if you hack it. Does that sound legit to you?
High Rise knows the company's web page already. It shouldn't be hard to find the building's network, being as close to its location as you are. You find it several seconds later.

*Mr. Dawson is the name attached to Malleus' rating 3 SIN.
yoippari
Apr 18 2007, 08:32 AM
The idea with the web page is to use the same transmitter that accesses the page's node to get a signal past the wireless blockers, not to access any systems. Is this still a hacking + exploit vs system + firewall that will have to go through a firewalled node (daisychained commlink?) or a "less intrusive" use-the-antenna hacking + exploit?
Plan b is use a fly-spy to find a physical opening at the roof or something and act as a signal booster. Plan C is to blatantly hack the guard's commlink and get in that way.
2bit
Apr 18 2007, 03:27 PM
ouch... *rubbing my temples*the matrix is my friend... the matrix is my friend... i love the matrix...
ok.
EC's public web page, you find out, is not hosted on-site, but elsewhere in Seattle. You do detect multiple transmitters on the building's roof, but they're not letting you see anything inside. Hacking any of them would be the same as hacking into the building network. Bottom line, you won't be able to get a signal in without accessing any systems unless your plan B works or you are physically inside.
2bit
Apr 18 2007, 03:40 PM
Ok, so High Rise is starting a probe on the building transmitter.
I'm assuming he's doing this in VR yeah? Post the first five rolls, that will take you out to Noon-ish. Stop if you get a glitch.
If you like, you can do other tasks at the same time as long as they don't take a whole lot of attention.
yoippari
Apr 19 2007, 03:32 AM
I was afraid it would be the extended hacking+exploit. I don't want to waste that amount of time trying to get through a system that is probably more heavily protected than the security guard's commlink. So for now I'll try plan b real quick.
Are there laws regarding flying drones over private property? I don't want to get arrested while spying on the johnson and interviewees.
