I don't consider it huge at all. Lifestyles haven't gotten any cheaper (and some have even increased in price) in SR4.

And while lifestyles are the same price all the gear that you use on a run is cheaper for the most part. A rigger can actually replace a drone after one or two runs as opposed to 10.

2500 doesn't cover Flair's none-too-elaborate lifestyle, let alone buy her a new bike. Price seems low to me, even by SR4 standards.
That being said, I don't really care all that much (and neither does Flair

Well, I get to re-write the thing from scratch. I'm not a big fan of the layout that the committee finally decided on, but that's not my call and I'm just the grunt programmer and database admin so I write code, they tell me how the result has to look. Also, since I don't recall it being specified if LA is cut of from the rest of CalFree for ground transportation, are bridges constructed since the quakes that provide vehicluar access to the city and there are ferries where there aren't bridges to take you all across.

Technically, you're not sure if it's in transit or not. It's civillian transport with vory connections (see IC post) and, thus, it'll probably not be pushed through the normal channels. Therefore, it could be shipped the day before and "overnighted" under the table to its recipients or it could be leaving tomorrow.

You've heard about this drug! In fact you know a guy who has a friend who dated a woman who's roommate dealed the stuff. It's supposed to be extremely strong and the trip is fast with almost now downer at the end.
As for who's receiving in LA, Boris wouldn't have a clue except to take a stab at another cell of the Vory.
@BaronKen
Well, if it's a land based transport, the chances are that the stuff would head south on either I-5 or on Rt. 99 and 509. Once it's out of the city, though, the real problem is getting it through the Tir Tangier. It's possible that the package could move east around the TT and then southwest back around into CalFree just to avoid potential problems at the board with the elves. Research into the specific shipping routes of the listed companies would help clear up these questions.
BaronKen
Oct 20 2005, 01:28 AM
Assuming
Morgan has forwarded the ARO information, how would I go about researching those companies? I have Data Search, but no Browse program. Data Search is linked to Logic, but it says "Most Search actions are handled as an Extended Test using your Data Search skill + Browse program." on p. 220.

Without a browse program it'll just take you far longer because you won't have a program to sift through the data you find. It'd be like trying to find a web page without a search engine. Since you're using the sameple character, which seems to be missing a few important programs, go ahead and assuming you have Browse at a rating equal to the average rating of the other programs you started with and give me new rolls (unless it comes out to be a rating 4 program in which case I'll use the above rolls

)
BaronKen

@BaronKen
Out of the full list, it looks like Alpine Shipping, Aspen Enterprises, Coolidge Logistics, Unversal Parcel, and BFG Logistics deal with areas that are primarily to the north and west of Seattle with routes concentrated in the Salish and Tsimshian.
The others (Covenant Transport, FastAIR Air Freight, AllenHouse Logistic Technologies, Weyerhaueser Shipping) deal with routes and areas located to the south of Seattle, thus including LA. As you could have guessed FastAIR is an airborne shipping company using a small fleet of cargo planes. Weyerhaueser is a sea-based shipping company.
Also, Weyerhauser's ships are for cargo transport and not speed. A quick calculation tells you that a package travelling by sea from Seattle to LA at the an average speed of 20 knots would take a little over 2 days. If the package is being sent by Weyerhauser then someone should figure that out post haste as it could be leaving seattle within the next 24 hours.
By land, the drive from LA to Seattle, should take just under 20 hours by the direct route, more like 30-40 if the drive is going around the TT.

Congrats on the child! Also, your data search turns up a lot of shadow activity for the name Smelly Ivan. It takes a few extra moments to categorize the information but at the end you're able to pin him down to two locations. It seems he enjoys spending some hard earned cash at a local casino bar by the name of Jack of all Spades. Mission Schedule
Someone in LA is expecting a package from the Vory.
The package needs to be interecepted and changed, so that the people receiveing it think the Vory messed them over.
Alpine Shipping, Aspen Enterprises, Coolidge Logistics, unversal Parcel, and BFG Logistics are unlikely candidates for LA shipping.
Covenant Transport, FastAIR Air Freight, AllenHouse Logistic Technologies, Weyerhaueser Shipping are best candidates for LA shipping.
What we know
- Weyerhaueser Shipping is sea based. 2 day transit to LA
- FastAIR Air Freight, air delivery, same day delivery likely.
- The package is suitcase sized.
- Package is a new cocaine derivative in patch form masquearading as medical supplies.
X Minus 3 - Today
X Minus 2
- Latest Weyerhaueser Shipping can be used to get package to LA
- Latest Team can drive to LA, avoiding the Tir (30 + hours)
X Minus 1
- Latest Team can drive to LA direct (20 hours)
Day X
- Latest Team can fly to LA.
- FastAIR Air Freight, probably can be same day delivery.
- Package is delivered in Los Angeles to the expecting party and discovered to be bad. Vory blamed.
Tasks
- Get another suitcase to replace the one being sent
- Fill suitcase with fake medical supplies similar to expected shipment.
- AllenHouse Logistic Technologies shipping routes and schedules
- Covenant Transport shipping routes and schedules
- Determine recipient.
- Smelly Ivan may know more on how the package would be sent. He hangs at Jack of All Spades or Madame Mim's.
- Arrange transprtation options for Team.
Scenarios
- Find shipper, switch case so wrong one is shipped. (very unlikely at this time)
- Find shipping company, find case, switch entire case.
- Find shipping company, find case, switch entire contents of case.
- Find shipping company, delay or reroute case, deliver alternate case.
- If we cannot find shipping company. Find receipient and screw up delivery somehow so Vory are blamed. e.g. snatch the shipment as it is delivered and let slip accidently that it was the Vory themselves gave up the meet. Pose a rival drug distribution gang.
DireRadiant
Dec 19 2005, 03:49 PM
We really need to find out what the recipients expect. For example, if what happens is that on Day X they get a message to go to <insert shipping pickup> and they do not know till then how the stuff gets delivered, we can see if we can spoof that message and have them go pick up a suitcase we sent.
It might be worthwhile to dummy up two cases and just ship one normally. Use that if we can, and the other one for the switch if we need to.
Obviously if they know how it's getting shipped to them ahead of time this won't work. But I suspect that it wouldn't be good for the Vory to be telling the recipient how stuff is being sent, because then the recipeint has enough information to jack the shipment themselves and not pay.
