@All: How do we want to do this? I see several oppertunities anice distraction during any of the paries would do

I'd say sending Porter in with other people could work. Porter is the anti-social engineer/tech and the others are the more socially-oriented "sales force".

I'm tempted to take a drive somewhere far away from the safehouse, and brute force the security system just to gauge a response. This could be on either TotSec or the Tech Conference itself. I'd prefer TotSec because they probably have multiple contracts so it won't tip our hand to exactly whom we are trying to get information about and most likely the corp will be more heavily reinforced than the jobsite they are protecting.

Thoughts?
Meriss
@Bishop: We might be too late to get in as a "sales force" But, we might be able to get in as a buying team from one of the single As
DireRadiant
Okay, do you all want the info on the trade show corps, I figure it would allow us to cherry pick our targets and what to go for in terms fo value.

And who else wants to attend the show and various events associated with it?
Redjack
@Fenris.
I see that Tukwila is right at the intersection of the I-5 and the I-405. What street is the apartment building on? (I looked up Tukwila, WA on google maps). Trying to plan an exit route. Looking for road construction, road conditions, unmapped alleys or roadblocks in the area.
Fenris
@ BishopMcQ - TotSec's featured clients include exclusively handling all of Yametetsu's security (of course), along with a smattering of other A-rated corps and a number of individuals in Moscow and Seattle. Tradeshows, such as the one at the Omi-dome, seem to be a bread-and-butter type of client, due to their focus on magical security and non-lethal response.

There are some rumors that they're the current top considered bidders on a contract to handle the security for Council Island.

You manage to track down a couple of bids that they've offered out to various people/corporations that weren't secured very well. The packages seem to vary from light physical security to complete 3 degree protection, including physical, magical, and matrix packages.

One constant in almost all of the packages you come across is heavy magical protection. While they don't seem to be neglecting other areas, every package includes some sort of FAB, awakened animals or plants, or a mage / mystic adept. One of the packages even includes FAB impregnated panels reported to create a physical barrier to astral passage.

Lethality wise they seem to use focus on effective non-lethal response. They use gel rounds, drugs, sprays, tasers, stick-n-shocks, mage-masks, skilltwitchers, data-jack blockers, and a variety of other responses to subdue intrusions, to submit to whatever the appropriate law for the locale is.

However, since their lethal response doesn't come out until much farther up the escalation scale, other runners have posted to watch out for things like APDS, Ultra-max's, and Panthers. If it gets lethal, they go for overkill.

Each test will take approximately 30 min, threshold for the information you received is 8.

What are Lady Ceruleans normal rates?

How much exactly is Calico asking for?

And that grungy skinflint Harriman isn't planning on paying me is he!
Fenris
@ Redjack - 65th Ave South, just north of Tukwila park. No road construction atm, and only really one road that runs near it. It is, however, less then 30 (by bike or car) to the freeway.

[Strikethrough]If you'd like more info on the area and the goings' on, please feel free to roll a Data Search + Browse.[/strikethrough]

Ignore that, didn't read the IC post first. Responded IC.
Fenris
@ DireRadiant - Rates run from 200 to 5000 nuyen.gif an hour. Day rates start at 2000 nuyen.gif and go up. Weekend or weekly rates only on special consideration wink.gif You know the standard for what you prefer normally runs about 1000 an hour, but the Lady's almost always willing to discount to around 600 because you rarely take advantage of the extracurricular services offered.

There's always a base finders fee available from the Church for recovering holy relics wink.gif Any amount that may be in addition would be based soley on the quantity of information received.

Calico's looking for 3k to do the write up you want in 2 days. You'll need to specify exactly what information you're looking for from each participant.

@ Meriss - You asked if there were any individuals the community would like slowed down wink.gif

Ah, and I forgot to mention, he would obviously be willing to handle any surgeries within his capabilities for you and your friends. Warning of when you'd actually be coming in would be appreciated, however.
Meriss
@Fenris: *BONK* Sorry I forgot. *sigh* carry on nothing to see here. How much did Max charge me? And of course I'd warn the doc.

@Dire Radient: I see the actual attendance loking something like this. Sweetness as our "team leader" Dervish as our "something" (I dunno) Porter as our "technical expert" Atreus as our "body guard" Inkari, Clay and Bakatare may attend as they see fit.
Fenris
@ Meriss - 300 nuyen.gif
DireRadiant
OK, do we have any kind of operational plan? Sweetness isn't going to come up with one, he'll go along with what is proposed. He's just assuming the team, or someone from the team needs to physically get into the show. This might not be needed at all for all he knows.
Redjack
A couple of items of legwork:
1) I seem to have missed the exact day of the Expo. Today (game time) is 9/7. How many more days to prepare?
2) I think we need Porter to identify two or three vendors who have the equipment he needs to upgrade all our coms.
3) What about software? Does the licensing and copy prevention of the software function in such a way as that it precludes us from stealing programs like Encryption R6?
4) Are hacking/restricted programs like Exploit and Sniffer going to be there?

As to operational plan:
1) Plan to be compromised: I think we need to plan a distraction. I think Clay and Dervish could mast that.
2) Remote operations: Unless I miss my guess here, Porter and Inkari will be very tied dealing with matrix and magic security, respectively. Especially if they take actions to help draw security forces towards the distraction.
3) Incursion: This leaves Atreus and Sweetness for the action snatch and grab. Assuming they split up initially to hit two separate vendors, they will have their hands full.

Of course all the above are just my random thoughts. Feel free to tear this strawman up if it is not relevant or there are better ideas.
Fenris
@ Redjack - Expo is 9/10. The current copy protection does prevent copying, but can be hacked.
QUOTE
This requires an Extended Software + Logic Test with a threadhold between 10 and 20 (gamemaster's discretion).

The software you mentioned will be there for "security specialists".
WearzManySkins
As long as the distraction involves something that goes BOOM, he will be happy. biggrin.gif

@Fenris is it possible to find on the Matrix "Hacked Copy Protection" copies of the software needed?
Redjack
QUOTE (Fenris)
The current copy protection does prevent copying, but can be hacked.

I was actually asking a little more involved question. Allow me to rephrase:
Since copy protection (in Shadowrun) prevents me from running multiple copies of software without buying more copies (licenses), I assume that the physical implementation of that would have to be activation (much like WindowsXP/Vista, MS office, etc)... So if we stole software, wouldn't they simply need to invalidate our license keys to stop it from working (unless the copies we had were cracked, in which case we could install copies on everyone's com)? Or worse yet: track us or upload a program that subverts control of our coms?

Perhaps I am placing too much realism into this question as I realize several aspects of the computers in the game divest from reality for game balance or playability...

@Redjack: All Dervish needs is an air vent smile.gif Anybody found me one yet? He will support any thoughts any one else has. And thanks for reminding me to post IC.
Buddha72
So anyone make a leader type character? I think at this point we need someone to start wrangling us all together and make choices. biggrin.gif
Fenris
@ Redjack - I think you're investing too much reality into the system. As I understand it, the individual copy of the software can't be mounted in more then one location at once, so if you want to use it on two different commlinks, you have to copy it. The system doesn't actually go into the concept of registering or activating the software, and I'm not going to add complexity in a situation where I see no actual gain in terms of game enjoyment from the addition.

That said, if you grab someone's star prototype Browse 12 program from the show, it's reasonable to assume that they might be able to track it down. However, generic commercialized software? No company would bother tracking every copy.

@ Wearz - It is possible to find things like that, but not available for public consumption. If any of you have shadow datahaven's as a contact with a loyalty and connection rating of 3 or better, some of the software you're looking for may be available there.
Fenris
I've got a vacation coming up in about a week and a half, so I'm giving the threads the entire span to finish legwork. I come back on the 29th, so I'll bump the thread forward to starting the actual run on the 30th. That should give you guys plenty of time to do all the legwork you need. I'll be posting regularly until the 20th, and I'll try to post at least once a day and answer questions between the 20th and the 29th ( I have free high speed at the vacation home we're going to), so the legwork should be able to continue apace, and you guys have time to do your conversations and such.

@ BishopMcQ -

Electronics Vendors
Optimus - B-grade elec. company out of Poland, specializing in response optimizations.
Future Processing - A grade company, focuses on high grade system and firewall equipment.
G.T.I. (Global Technologies Incorporated) - small company from Atlanta, specializes in upgraded signal ratings. They claim to have a prototype capable of handling 4x as many subscriptions as a normal commlink, as well as a number of other higher grade offerings.

Software

Omniture - Bhangledesh based software company, focused on producing high-powered commerical applications (Browse, Edit, etc.)
F-Secure - Texas based software company that specializes in security programs and systems. These are the people most likely to have high-end restricted software, as well.

If you want to check and see what's available on your Data Haven contact, go ahead and give me a Negotiations + Charisma role, with bonuses as normal from your contacts loyalty level. Modify with the following dice:

+2 dice - Contact is friendly
+1 dice - If you have the Data Haven as a contact, then they know of you and your rep, in some fashion or another.

This isn't standard procedure, and I'm ad-hocking the rules from here on out. My intention is to reward the hacker character with good connections to shadow communities that would have things like cracked copies of these programs. However, using the standard data search rules I would have to place an arbitrary cap on the rating of the program, with no credit given for the skill of the specific hacker. So, I've decided on the following:

You can make a Data Search + Browse program + Loyalty rating (16, 1 combat turn) for each program you want to find. I'll make rolls on my side to determine if the specific program you want is available. However, in order to maintain your reputation on the data haven, for each program you download, you have to upload a cracked version of a different program of equal rating. If you download a Browse 6, you have to upload a cracked "something" 6. It can be the same type of program, but it must be from a different company, therefore making it an additional piece of cracked software they now have on their system.

If you are thinking about the shape change into a mouse and infiltrate the building, there are a few issues with that: Patrolling elementals tend to take note of that. When they take note of that, they tend to start by attacking the spell. Once the spell drops... Well it does get a little messy. wink.gif

@All
I was thinking hitting one of the vendors either at their hotel the night before or en route to the Expo. We just need to find out where the truck load of high tech gadgets are going to be. In fact truck load is probably an overstatement, we may simply be looking for a few cases....

Once we narrow our target to 2-3 companies, we then start looking into how they will transport the goods to the site then make a decision on en route or at the hotel... or if we time it right, we do one right after the other - one at the hotel and the second en route. { Not wanting to get greedy, but if a plan works out.... }

@Fenris
What will three blond wigs and a supply of cosmetics cost? Atreus didn't have money to try and collect nanopaste disguises or anything high tech, but he does have a reasonable disguise skill rank.
Meriss
@Redjack: Nope a meta human sized vent. Dervish was inspired by Splinter Cell. "be wery wery quiet, I'm cwaling through air wents" I like yer plan thou.
Redjack
So let's build on that then. How about starting with 3 companies would will have the caliber and grade of hardware we want. Preferably smaller companies (if possible) without the resources for a huge retaliation or upgraded defenses. (Never played Splinter Cell so I'm not up on the references)

Once we have the list, we can narrow down with hotel(s) we need to scout out.
Meriss
@Red: Sounds good. And Splinter Cell = Stealthy bugger smile.gif

@Fenris
From Calico, Sweetness is interested in personell, personal information on people that may be attending, and then in addition to that, anything that Porter might want to know, Sweetness will check with Porter (Probably end up with some of the same data, but's nto bad to get confirmation), and in addition to that, what specific interesting toys the companies are bringing to the show.

Lady Cerulean, One companion would be useful at standard rates, but in addition, I assume she would also charge Sweetness for arranging Invitations to the show and events. And any information gathered during the event itself that may be useful to Sweetness and the team.

Sweetness is also going to check on how quickly he can get binding materials for a force 3 spirit.

@Team
My thinking is that Sweetness would be a good person for trolling the show and events in general. It's amazing what people will tell him... and of course help in any actual run itself in any way. Though you may want to note he isn't necessarily the most stealthy, or certainly hasn't acted or claimed to be.
Fenris
@ DireRadiant - Which people, specifically? There's going to be thousands of people attending the tradeshow. I gave a short list to Porter of some notable companies for the type of gear you're looking for. Are you wanting more information on the companies presenting then that?

Passes to the event for just you and your companion? Or other people as well?

Binding mats are a Negotiations + Charisma (6, 2 days) to get your mats. If you have a contact that you're getting them from, he can roll his dice pool instead of yours. If you're willing to spend more, for every +25% of the cost (1,500 nuyen.gif base, so 378 nuyen.gif) gives you a +1 dice pool modifier.
Fenris
@ Redjack - Those are legal items, and can be bought at any appropriate store immediately, for probably 350 for cheap wigs on up to 3000 for a set of three human hair or realistic synthetic wigs wink.gif

@All
Reinstalled my laptop (fragged a series of manual upgrades). Switched to Kubuntu to get a package management system. Running great now! Then my WAP died, so I had to pull out the wires while I decide the replacement... so my posting has been erratic at best for the past week.

@Bishop
I'm unclear as to what the layout you just transmitted is to. Is that the trades show? A hotel?

@Meriss
Atreus and Dervish would probably make a great close combat team.

@DireRadiant
Probably should plan for at least Atreus and Dervish. If the signal is blocked, Porter will need inside as well.

@Fenris
Cheap ones should do. - Thx
Meriss
@Redjack: Ouch! Yeah but Dervish works better as a flanker and suprise attack. We could prolly get in as Sweetness' bodyguards, Porter as his tech expert.
BishopMcQ
Redjack--The layout is from the tradeshow. It contains all the halls and demo floors, with Porter's best attempts at logical placement for the "Dead space" of security and maintenance shafts.
DireRadiant
What's the general timeline for the show?

Are we only going to get one shot at getting in and doing whatever, or can we go in, check it, reformulate plans, and then do the attack, or plan on doing both?

I think I'm missing something in envisioning what we may end up doing.
Redjack
Are we planning to try and hit whoever away from the Expo?
Meriss
Might work. If we do that, Devish can shadow him/her from behind and Atreus and Sweetness can herd the mark.

@Dire Radient: Mind if I come?
DireRadiant
Sweetness is actually proposing to go investigate the disappearance of a person who is apparently important because they have a piece of jewelry other people want.

Or are we talking about some action around the expo I don't know about.

I need someone to summarize things for me.
Redjack
@DireRadiant: My interpretation of the IC post was that you were looking to make someone disappear... The wink and the foul play led me astray. In any case, Atreus is game for helping you with the recovery as you had already offered to help with the gangers.

@Meriss: Just to clarify, Atreus also has significant stealth dice and prefers that mode as well. He also has VERY high perception dice (14 visual/12 audible). He is best running point and with his adept multitasking, observe in detail is a free action, he is not distracted by AR, etc..

@Bishop: Thanks, but aren't we trying to hit someone before they get to the Expo?
BishopMcQ
Yep, but I was asked for a blueprint of the expo. That was what i had, so I shared. If the team can decide which company they are going to hit, I can then look into how they are getting the product to the Expo, which hotel they are staying in etc.
Meriss
@Redjack Kay, my bad. I don't usually read other folks sheets. I tend to think its bad manners.

@Bishop: Sorry to make Porter do all that extra work for nothing. I was under the impression we were going to hit the show it self.

@All: Looking over the companies Fenris gave us, we're going to have to hit all of them . Each has a part of what we want but not the whole thing.

They are again
[ Spoiler ]

So we're going to have to hit them all. Thoughts?
Redjack
@Meriss - No problems. Just wanted to give you a clearer idea of Atreus since they had been spending days together. To be truthful, I keep a spreadsheet of the game of observations I make about the various characters in the games I'm in. That way I can play my character according to what he knows. I haven't seen the other character sheets either..

@All - As to hitting all the players... That may be a little too ambitious. We can always try to buy the additional components. I'd hate to git us in over our heads.. We can always reach out to contacts and see what if any components are available now to filter our list...
DireRadiant
Charisma 5 + Con 3 + First Impression 2 + Kinesics 3 = 13, Sweetness - Ace Reporter, not a cub, but a Lion!

And Sweetness will use Commanding Voice on the LS Officer to repeat or get clarifications of any questions, perhaps the poor person will reveal far more then he intends when compelled. I need to check my books at home to get the exact rolls unless someone already knows.

I am assuming the others with Sweetness want to avoid the LS Officer.

@ All Regarding the expo job, I think we are doing the legwork now, and haven't decided on an exact plan, but I was assuming any of the events around the expo, prior, during, and right after were good times for whatever we planned. I just want to make sure Sweetness is ready to contribute, some of which is made easier by knowing what's intended. OTOH, part of what we are going through is working out what we can all do.
Redjack
@All: For the Expo job I'd like to focus on the night before. Since we are looking at hitting multiple vendors we need to start early.. Perhaps a Gone in 60 Seconds philosophy... as long as we keep ahead of the authorities..

@DireRadiant: We can discuss the details of the current run in OOC or IC, either way you prefer. biggrin.gif
Meriss
@Redjack: Actually I like that idea. Adds a bit of flair and excitement to the runner legend don't you think? Knock over one guy go on to the next and so forth. Clever meranath, very clever.

@Fenris: General Knowledge check for exits and entrances. 5,4,4,1,1,4 One very lonely hit and two ones. Drek that's a botch ain't it? Do I need a Stealth check to avoid the Star? I'm also turning on my Ear Recorder to catch any important conversations.
BishopMcQ
It's only a glitch if you have half or more of the dice as 1s. Two is ok in this case, three is the bad number.
Fenris
@ Meriss - Not even a critical glitch wink.gif The building has underground parking with two exits/entrances, 1 main entrance/exit, and probably a staff entrance around back somewhere.

@All - Just wanted to let you guys know, I'm back and I'll be posting actively from now on. Just as a reminder, if there is any additional information that you guys want before you start the run on the tradeshow on Monday, either toss rolls here or do some very quick IC roleplaying ;D
Fenris
@ Wearz - Were you going to throw some dice to go with your observations about the building?
