Aug 20 2013, 03:45 PM
Ok - looks like we are all at the table - I do need to wait until Praetor posts, since depending on whether or not he glitches in his perception check, that is going to affect how this goes

In the meantime, it is probably not a bad idea to discuss transportation and border crossings again

There is no need to retcon stuff, this is just the setup, so the way you all described yourself arriving is great.
Primarily this applies to those living outside the UCAS. First off, every time you cross the border, they are going to run your fake SIN through the system. For this meet, I'm not going to bother - but it is something to keep in mind for future reference. Secondly - if your SIN does not identify you as a UCAS citizen licensed to carry a firearm in the UCAS, and the border guards find you with a gun on you - you are going to jail, or at least are going to have to have a shootout with the border guards - which, by the way, is not advisable.
I think I said it in my previous post - but just to reiterate, they do not always search your car - it would make the borders basically impassable due to time constraints if they had to search every car that went through. I'm just making sure you are aware of the possible ramifications of your actions

1) Tasers are completely legal - no worries carrying one.
2) All member of the party appear mundane. Since you aren't actively making a perception test, you don't get all the nuances, but Chapel appears relaxed, Hosepipe nervous, 30 and Stuntman calm, and Slick is somehow projecting "greasy" into the astral. You see several other members of the dining hall astrally perceiving as well, along with several watchers roaming about.
3) No worries - just post the dice you are rolling and I'll take care of it

Lobo0705
Aug 20 2013, 11:55 PM
I also enjoy the rp aspect of a team coming together - it was the reason that none of you knew each other

Coming from a Pnp gaming world, where all the players know each other for years - even if they roleplay well, there is always a bit of meta-gaming involved, since you know the other person's personality. Here, where we are all strangers, you really are only reacting to what their character does - which I find quite fun

Feel free to take the a while for IC posts if you wish - I also want to give Ronin time to post since I know he can only post after work. Sometime later tonight - 10 or 11 EST at least, I will post the next IC thread from Chapel - which will start laying out the job in front of you.

Commlinks, Viewing data, and your equipment
Hello all,
So, as I'm writing the response from Chapel, I'm looking at your character sheets, and determining what your characters are able to do in-game based on your character sheets as opposed to what you might expect them to be able to do, and make sure we are all on the same page:
First, we will look at viewing data sent via your commlink, or using and viewing AROs
Hosepipe - has a datajack and cybereyes, which include an imagelink - so any data sent to his commlink he can have wirelessly sent to his eyes.
Slick also has a datajack and cybereyes, so the same as above.
Stuntman has the datajack (since he has a Control Rig), but without cybereyes or any type of Optical/Imaging device, he will need to view the data on the Commlink itself.
Opti has a commlink and glasses with an imagelink, and so can view the data as long as he is wearing his glasses.
30 has the same thing as Opti, but with contacts instead of glasses.
So, if Chapel sends a file to you, all of you can have it displayed on your cybereyes/glasses/contacts - except Stuntman. Is that your intent, or did you overlook purchasing something that will let you "see" AR/VR?
Next, mentally commanding your Commlink to access AR, sending payments and files, etc
Hosepipe, Slick, and Stuntman can do it wirelessly through their datajacks.
Opti and 30 will have to manually manipulate the commlink
I'm 99.999% sure that Opti meant it that way, and is not going to give up a point of magic for a datajack. Not sure if that is what 30 wanted as well.
I'm fairly easy-going, and I don't want to penalize anyone because they didn't realize how the system worked.

You are indeed correct. I have no desire to slice away at my link to the mana for the sake of a 3-second convenience, lol.

Aug 21 2013, 12:55 AM
Actually, a datajack gives you DNI, which makes image link redundant. It says specifically on page 222 that you don't have to have image link or anything else to get the full AR or VR experience. It's poorly explained in the gear section though.
Lobo0705
Aug 21 2013, 01:17 AM
@Lowmoan
Thanks for the page reference

- see, told you I was getting used to 5e

So, I take that back

Slick, Hosepipe and Stuntman can see the files directly through their datajack (Slick and Hosepipe also have the ability to see it through their cybereyes)
Opti and Cole have to view it through external glasses and contacts respectively.

Point of note, the reason I have two commlinks is that the non-implanted cheapo is my "burner link", associated with my Fake SIN and broadcasting it in public areas where I'm supposed to, all that jazz, while the implanted one is my "shadow link", which I either keep entirely turned off or in Silent Running if I'm actively using it.
The Burner is essentially my "Mug Wallet" with a few red herring data files and whatnot on it, the Shadow is essentially my comm for missions, and my Datajack is where I store anything valuable like paydata.

Good to know, and good thinking

Something else I would like, when you get a chance (not just Umi, but all of you) is a sort of "standard equipment list" - i.e. what you have on you at all times, unless you say otherwise. If you need to either divest yourself of one of these items, or grab something not on the list, you will then have to do it IC.

While the datajack is good enough for AR, you still need a device with simsense to access VR. cyberdeck, control rig, simsense module....

Most of my stuff I think is small enough to smuggle around normally, but some of it I'd want to leave behind depending on situation. Hmm.
Most of my B&E gear I keep with me. I see the crowbar as
a miniature dealie like this, since the item entry also covers "chisels". My standard lockpick set I can fit in my shoe. My endoscope is bundled up like a data-cable and stashed in the pocket where I keep my burner commlink. My gecko tape gloves and my medkit are perfectly legal, so I just stick them in a couple pockets. Let's call this gear my "Light B&E" set.
Now, my
autopicker, my sequencer, and my maglock passkey are things I don't have Fake Licenses for, and they're suspicious items no matter how you slice it, but they're pretty small too so I keep all three in a little brown case a bit bigger than a wallet that I normally leave at home. My miniwelder is also
probably small enough to stash in the same little case, but if not it can have it's own case. These items together constitute my "Heavy B&E" set.
For day to day wear, or "safe" situations I take
either my taser in my hidden arm slide, or my roomsweeper in its concealable holster. For missions or for "dangerous" situations, I take both. For the roomsweeper, I typically load it with flechettes, and keep at least a full reload (8 rounds) on my person in a small box or case, either tucked into my holster or stashed somewhere near it. For the taser, I likewise keep a full reload (4 darts).
Annnnd... that pretty much covers my gear! I always wear my Actioneer Business Clothes unless I'm relaxing or whatever, and I always have my burner with me, and everything else is implanted, so hey.
Currently, Slick is running Light B&E and Pistol, which is his "Basic Gear" more or less. Once he knows the details of the job, he might swing by his apartment to pick up additional gear as necessary.

I'd like to roll my Blackmail knowledge skill, as the fact that this guy has been blackmailed for an entire year and resorted to favors would probably suggest certain details of the situation to Slick, as well as give him ideas on what options there might be for counter-blackmail.

You are
Johnny on the spot with the skill (hmmm - perhaps using Hosepipe's example, "Jimmy on the spot?")
Ok - so you are going to be making assumptions - since you obviously lack data currently:
1) Atkinson must be in a position to perform favors for whoever is blackmailing him, suggesting corporate or government background.
2) Substance abuse and solicitation are potentially more damaging to government figures, and so you lean even more in that direction.
3) Whoever is blackmailing him must either good enough at it to not get caught, or powerful/crazy enough that they are not worried about retaliation.

Okay, uh, I'm not sure how many more knowledge skill rolls I'm gonna be making here.

Liquor licenses, zoning exemptions, permit denials, and waste disposal all sound like the Mafia, but they could also be any of the other organized crime groups as well. Slick has a Rating 1 in Mafia, Triads, Vory, and Yakuza knowledge, so that could be four separate rolls, but if you want to just do them all as one lump roll that's fine too.
Basically just trying to figure out who the most likely culprit is, whose style this sort of scam would be. (As a player, I gotta say I'm pretty sure it's not the Yaks, and have a strong suspicion it
is the mob, but hey, that's me, not Slick.) Although with my Luck (not Slick's), it'll be the Koshari or someone he doesn't keep up to date on.

Once I have the names on the licences I'll do a matrix search on those names.
I'm trying to see if any of the license holders are a subsidiary of another entity (corp or person)
Matric search on those names.
Basically I'm trying to geuss which of these licenses is the most suspicious...the longer the string of entities attached to a license the more likely it's a front for something else.

I am going to hop to the UCAS government grid and do a matrix search: the ten names vs any felony charges... I assume I'm looking for acquittals otherwise they'd have a criminal SIN. Unless sealed or expunged by court order, these are public records.
Computer (4) + Intuition (5) [Data Processing (4)] <-2 if this info is on a different grid> 9 or 7
If nothing comes up I'll enter the Court System Host or whatever Host holds the Court System file and do a Matrix Search for the folder including Sealed files.
I assume its protected so I do a Crack File to get access to the files stored within. I'll exchange Sleaze/Attack ratings.
Hacking(6) + Logic(6) [Attack 4] v. Protection Rating x 2, 12 vs ?
Assuming the Baby Monitor doesn't say it's time to run or I'm not immediately attacked... I'll do a Matrix Search on the ten names (I don't really care what the file is, I'm just looking for the State vs (a matching name).
