Betty
Where's the die roller? Do you want to roll for me?
Betty
reading the contract: 8d6 24

There were 4 rolls of 5 and 4 rolls of 1.
Betty
I will do this as an extended challenge, 1 hour per roll.

Second hour: [8d6=1, 2, 1, 4, 2, 4, 3, 5]

I think that's -1 successes.
Betty
One last roll....

[8d6=1, 1, 5, 5, 4, 6, 5, 2]
The 6 rerolled as a 4 for a total of 10.

I hope Betty knows she bungled things....
Koekepan
Betty has entered a little maze of twisted clauses, all different.

And she's lost. Even her blanket doesn't seem to have a clear understanding of what this is about. Maybe after some sleep...
pbangarth
Glad to see poor Blue isn't the only one in the dark!
pbangarth
Assuming Blue can 'Google Maps' with his PA, how far is it from Betty's digs to Petsonal Personalities? I'm trying to figure out what Blue should do this evening, both while Betty figures out the document, frown.gif , and later in the night.
Koekepan
Roughly a klick as the crow flies.

Perhaps one and a half as the pedestrian walks.
pbangarth
Sorry, I should have also asked about the weather outside. Still frightful?
Koekepan
Cold. About 2 degrees C. Slushy. Breezy (about 12 knots south-westerly).

Not bad for Seattle, really.
pbangarth
I really have no idea, and would have to think about this. Can Makeover or Fashion dry clothing?
Koekepan
I'd say Makeover can, but Fashion can not. Makeover, as per RAW, does provide for sprucing up, and so it will dry you out - but not keep you dry after casting.
pbangarth
Thanks.

Yes, I wouldn't cast such a spell while in the middle of the deluge.
Koekepan
Oh no. Not a deluge. Seattle doesn't really do deluges.

It just drips. On and on. For days. Many days. Occasionally you'll get a brief respite - but it's only a few misty moments, and then it drips again.
pbangarth
Have fun with the failures, Koekepan.

I understand that the current version of the Mindlink spell Blue has has a very limited range, but an encounter in another game I'm playing here on DS got me thinking. From the description of the spell, it seems to me Mindlink should work with a spirit (with the caveats of what spirits can actually 'see'). But it might be able to give a broader functionality to a spirit searching through an area. The magician might be able to give more immediate instructions if she were able to sense what the spirit does off on the other side of a wall, for example.

Thoughts?

I'd say that if you're reaching beyond line of sight, you're in the realm of ritual magic, or at least needing a link of some sort. This would require more prep work than just summoning a spirit. Do you think that you might have a spirit's true name, perhaps? Might take a little work.
pbangarth
OK. I'll keep this in mind for later.
Koekepan
If you guys want to scoot ahead to the next morning, that's fine by me - just depends on what your plans are for the rest of the night.
pbangarth
Sorry, I've been distracted here at home just a bit.

Blue would like to converse with Betty about the document, and then he would like to astrally project and check out the facility in that plane. Would be nice to see if that serpent tracks him astrally as well.

I'll post tomorrow for sure.
Koekepan
I want to see a roll from Blue based on his astral sneaking and peeking.

In fact, a couple of rolls - for observation in general, for assensing in particular, plus anything related to the particular ideas that you may have in mind.

pbangarth
Perception rolls (here's 3 for whatever you might want):

13 [4d6=6, 4, 2, 1] 7 [4d6=1, 4, 1, 1] 7 [4d6=2, 1, 3, 1]

13 [4d6=6, 4, 2, 1] 7 [4d6=1, 4, 1, 1] 7 [4d6=2, 1, 3, 1]

Assensing roll

Aura Reading 3 complementary, target 4: 2 successes

Assensing INT 4 + 2 = 6 dice, target 4: 3 successes

Blue plans to circle the facility at some distance and would like to find an angle at which the serpent can't see him. He will try a simple, short poke through the outer wall at such a place to see if he fetches up against a barrier inside. He will not try to break through an astral barrier ... at this time.

If there is some kind of loading dock then he will position himself to watch that for a while. The dark of night is often considered the best for nefarious dealings, so he will spend a few hours watching the facility to see if some shipment leaves. If one does, and he has time, he will follow it. In ample time to get back to his body, he will head back. Too long astrally is a silly way to die.
pbangarth
Ah, for the good old days of face-to-face role playing.

"Wait! What? Something is snuffling at me? I wanna check that out!"

In any case, I think delving into the history of the place a little more might be in order. (Betty?) Whether it is pertinent to the current plot or not. But I think it might be. Who knows? Some old spiritual presence that doesn't like what's going on? Or just wants to be left alone? Could be an ally.

Or ...

... yet another thing hunting for Blue.
pbangarth
Oh, shit. Glowing larvae on the docks? And there is supposed to be an atavophid basilisk "queen"?

eek.gif eek.gif eek.gif
pbangarth
OK, so being outside the body causes Essence to drain at the rate of 1 point of Essence per hour. But it comes back at 1 point per minute once body and spirit are reunited. So Blue will regenerate at home, realize what he may have missed, and zip back to the facility and get a really good look at the larval forms around the dock (if they are still there). He will want to read their aura so he can recognize it again, or something similar, if he sees an (?) adult (?) form later.

Aura reading : 2 successes
Koekepan
Checking in; it's been mighty quiet around here.
Betty
Life has been really nasty lately. I'll explain in a bit.
pbangarth
For me, it's been pretty good. Sorry to hear you were on the other side of the coin, Betty. Busy lately, but free to post in a little while. I need to figure out what Blue will do with the rest of the night.

How long does he have till daybreak?
Koekepan
No more than four hours. Three, to be safe.
Betty
I'm going to bow out of the game. I've never liked Shadowrun and I can't make myself check for posts.

Best of luck and have fun!
pbangarth
Sorry to see you go, Betty. It sounded like you would be fun to play with. Good luck in whatever you do.

Well, Koekepan, it's back to you and me again.

I'll work Blue's way back to Hopalong's place ... unless you negotiate on behalf of (PC) Betty to allow Blue to rent this place.
Koekepan
I can't see Betty renting out her home, but that doesn't mean that Blue couldn't figure out something parallel.

I suppose it all depends on what his next plan would be.
pbangarth
"All night dance club, basement apartment!" You are too kind, Koekepan. I wonder what kind of hearth spirit could be summoned there!
Koekepan
One way to find out .... might be a little frustrating to the current owner, of course.
pbangarth
1) In this game, what is the effect of the explosion in Hopalong's Hideout on Blue's favourite Hearth Spirit? Blue is gonna miss her.

2) Blue wants to erase his astral signatures from this location. The hostiles will assume it was he who did all this wonderful stuff, but without a signature they will have to at least entertain the idea that Hopalong had another magical friend on call. Sorcery for the spell, and Conjuring for the spirit, though I believe once the spirit departs, that aspect of Blue's signature goes with it. So, is all of the following true?

a) Owl bonus applies to erasing astral signature, and to the Drain resistance roll
b) Spell pool does not apply
c) L damage for +1 target applies
d) Each success reduces the duration of the signature by one hour. Given the target for a F5 spell, one application of the erasure attempt usually won't do it. But, multiple attempts, (erase, resist Drain, repeat) will eventually get rid of the signature completely. This could take a couple of minutes for a F5 spell, target 6 at this point.

I think that is all that applies.
Koekepan
1) Depending on how/whether the place is rebuilt, anything from slow fading to modification of presentation.
2a) Yes, although you're running short of time to dawn
2b) Yup
2c) Correct
2d) Yes, assuming you don't get interrupted
pbangarth
I wonder if Blue knows of a way to move a Hearth Spirit. He's kind of fond of Madel. Yes, that's what he calls her.

Arcana 2 roll : 2,2

Pretty underwhelming.

.
.
.

Maybe he could ask her.
Koekepan
As far as he knows, hearth spirits are bound to their domiciles.

On the other hand, there are legends of them propagating. For example, in some cultures a girl on her wedding day would bring a coal from her mother's hearth to her new home, and thus the spirit of kinship would live on ... maybe?

Who knows, really?
pbangarth
That's the kind of cool shit I was hoping for. Could get Blue killed, but what the hey. Now, in this modern building, he wonders what the equivalent of a coal from the hearth is. He will ponder that as he changes his plans.
Koekepan
Tough question.

On the other hand, if it's combustion he seeks, there's no shortage of combustion going on there right now.
pbangarth
Yeah, that struck me right away. I just need to figure out what piece of combustible material says 'hearth' in its soul.
Koekepan
***POOL REFRESH***

Well, most particularly, Karma.

pbangarth
YAY!
pbangarth
When Blue gets back to his apartment, how much time is left before sunset? If there is a fair bit of time, he will investigate the communications data till he can more safely summon/encorcel/project.
Koekepan
Not a lot of time is left. It's less than an hour to sunset.
Koekepan
I'd like a data search roll on the data stash. There's a lot of stuff to go through, and it's all sorts of communications and formats.
pbangarth
I believe that's INT?

INT 4 = 4 dice: 6,6,3,4
pbangarth
Is there more to the message than the title? If so, is it Ancient Greek (which Blue can read) or modern Greek, which would still be sort of intelligible?
Koekepan
It's between the two. It's not the language of Themistocles, but closely related; it's a christian prayer most recognisable to the modern set as being set to music (or at least chant) as Kyrie Eleison.

Apparently she's expressing - dismay? Exasperation? Horror? Despair?
pbangarth
Got it. Thanks.
