Can a mage who is astrally projecting provide counterspelling defence for others who are not astrally projecting?

So if the mage is doing stuff astrally, and can see the other characters from astral, if an enemy mage targets them with a spell, can you still use your counterspelling to defend them?

My gut tells me that no, if you don't have LOS to cast a spell at them then you don't have LOS to use your Counterspelling either.

well, i would allow it, provided:

1) the people being protected are dual natured.

2) the spell in question is present on the astral plane (ie it is a mana spell cast on the astral plane by an astral entity).

so, generally speaking... no.

Thats what Guidance/Plant/Guardian spirits are for. You project conjure up some BFS, have it materialize and protect your team while you watch from astral.

This also works for combat. wink.gif

A Great Form guidance spirit can make your team dual natured if you want to do the whole I'm-projecting-and-a-support-mage-only sort of thing.

and if your team also doesn't mind getting manabolted by spirits of men flying 20 meters up, being subject to watcher attacks, being unable to pass through wards, or any of the many, *many* other problems that come attached to being dual natured...

frankly, i think a better use is to have the guidance spirit force the enemies into the astral, so you can drop crazy AOE spells on the poor fools from the astral. and also so that you can laugh at them for having a penalty to their dicepool as an added "benefit" to this supposedly good thing.

(incidentally, you could also use this to trash objects with mana spells, by my reading, and to make astral barriers effective against physical intruders... all sorts of uses, many or perhaps even most of which are best to use on people who are *not* your teammates nyahnyah.gif)
