You'll have to ask the GM...

Ok, me...the Face according to my friends. They always if i were in a game i'd be ms. charisma, cos of this wierd way i can convince people of things and stuff. (example, we were all at my job and trying to figure what bar to go to. SHe was trying to convince people to go to this one bar called Corner for about 20 mins. I walk over, say 'lets go to corner' and they all follow. Strange. wink.gif)

When I was 16 we actually played characters in an SR game based on ourselves. I thought the game was gonna suck, but it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played it. I didn't really create all my stats, I let the GM determine most of them, I just filled in most of the skills, and he determined that I would be a either a Physical Adept (2nd Ed) or a Street Sam human. Well, a dozen years later here's what I think I'd rate nowadays, going off of 6 being the typical maximum human:

So much of that depends on the group you're part of. Some find it among the most amazing things they've ever done. One group I tried it on: one player was determined to take it as a lark and quite deliberately sabotaged the entire thing. Looking back, I think it might have been a secret wish-fulfilment playing out, an ability to just go nuts without suffering real-life consequences. But that's one of those things you learn only by running through them.

Hmm, With a possibility of 9 maximum points for a human in intelegence, and considering that the WAIS-3 only goes up to 155 IQ , I would say that an IQ of 150 would be an 8 in shadowrun terms. I would even go so far as to say that anyone more than 3 standard deviations above the mean (145+) should have 7+ in int.

OMG OMG OMG GUYS I HAVE INT 9 COZ MY IQ TEST SEZ MY IQ BIG LOL LOL LOL I'M SMARTER THAN YUR SR CHAR LOL LOL LOL. eek.gif

Eh, see, that's why I don't really agree that an IQ of 150 would be an 8 in SR. Because I think lots of people have that IQ.

Back when I was in 3rd grade I took an IQ test and apparently it gave me 138. The thing is, I'm a funking dumbass. I really am. Like, there are so many people who are smarter than me, whereas for the most part I'm universally slow on the uptake. Like, I hate memorizing things, I was terrible at computer programming when I practiced it back in high school, I'm pitful at math, and I can only support small structures of abstract thought in my head before they all come crashing down which results in me sucking at games like chess or go. It gets to the point where I do abysmally poorly in games that don't have elements of random chance to help me...if it's pure logic like chess I fail utterly before I know what's going on.

Like, I would consider myself, being *extremely* generous just on the basis of the IQ test, to be a 4 if we think that there are still many members of the population who have INT 5. So, it would be something like:

INT 1, IQ 80 or below
INT 2, IQ 81-99
INT 3, IQ 100-130
INT 4, IQ 131-160
INT 5, IQ 161-179
INT 6, IQ 180+
Kagetenshi
Lots of people don't have that IQ. There's the entirely different question of whether IQ test results mean anything (and in my experience they mean something, but remarkably little), but by definition if it's an IQ test [edit: following the usual patterns of normalization and distribution] and lots of people have 150s, the test is broken. Broken like 2+2 returning 76 is broken.

~J
Wounded Ronin
I would certainly agree that trying to link INT to IQ might be barking up the wrong tree.
Halabis
Exactly. Lots of people dont have IQ's in the 150's. less than .03% of the population does. But the population is big, so chances are out of the thousand or so people you interact with you know a couple of people that smart.

155 is the maximum possible (measurable) human IQ. 9 is the maximum possible human IQ in SR. anyone who talks about hiving a 180 IQ is unfamiliar with current methods of measuring IQ. I just wrote a research paper on the WAIS-III yesterday. Would you like my bibliography so you can research it yoruself?
Kagetenshi
That's not entirely true (though it is true for WAIS-III, so your paper is safe smile.gif ). There are tests specifically designed to measure higher ranges; I think the highest I've seen tops out at about 220.

~J
Halabis

INT 3, IQ 100-130
INT 4, IQ 131-160
INT 5, IQ 161-179
INT 6, IQ 180+

I would do it something like this myself

INT 1, IQ ~70 or below
INT 2, IQ ~85
INT 3, IQ ~100
INT 4, IQ ~115
INT 5, IQ ~130
INT 6, IQ ~145
INT 7, IQ ~148
INT 8, IQ ~150
INT 9, IQ ~155+

70 is the cut off for mentaly retarded according to current classifications, 130 is genious. Notice that at the higher range the interval is smaller. This is because the actual difference between IQ's at this point is much greater. The gap between 151 IQ and 150 IQ is much greater than between 101 and 100.
Halabis
QUOTE (Kagetenshi @ May 5 2005, 02:28 PM)

Yeah, but those are on differnet scales. IQ's from different tests arent realy compatable. The Stanford-Binet has a mean of 100 and a SD of 16, so an WAIS IQ of 150=SB IQ=153

Sicne WAIS is the most commonly used test, I was just under the assumption that we were all using thier IQ scale. guess thast what ya get for assuming =)

Edit: and just for the record, a high IQ doesnt make one person any better than another. It simply indicates that tier strengths lie in a different area. I dont care if you have an IQ of 10000, yer still no better than Fred the Hobo, from off the street corner.
Kagetenshi
That's true, but keep in mind that it's not common knowledge that there are different scales.

C 1 (I have no idea why, I'm just assuming my life would be a lot more exciting if it were any higher than 1)

Thanks for making me think about this, gang. Of course, it IS helping me to remember why I love playing shadowrun so much. I'm not going to bother with flaws, because that might be a little TOO painful, plus people have been writing books about their own flaws for millenia, and I don't think anyone's ever quite figured themselves out on that level. But my skills could probably be boiled down to two knowledge skills and one active skill:

Amusing Trivia: 4
Bemusing Trivia: 5
Antics:1*

My group usually plays with 2nd ed. rules, so if rules permit, there will be a concentration in "shenanigans that don't impress the pigs" and a specialization in "zigging when I really need to zag." This specialization will probably be quite high.

Ya know, in looking at these, I wonder about Knowledge Skills sometimes actually in the game. I put down a ton of knowledge skills, ranging from the basic knowledge(1 or 2) in stuff like Chemistry to stuff I could teach a class on(the Northern European Metal scene). In additon to useless knowledges of stuff like Useless Trivia and Star Wars movies. biggrin.gif

But in a shadowrun game, I am sure a character could know more than INTx5 points of stuff, is what i am saying. I guess that EVERY little useless thing you know(how to roll a ciggarette, how to fold a paper airplane) doesn't need to actually BE a knowledge skill. In this way I can shave myself down to a legal 120-125 point character at least grinbig.gif

I wish. smile.gif Actually, I'd rather join Cirque du Soleil, but that's just me.

I'm assuming in this case that 3 represents an avg lvl of skill for someone who trains 20+ hours a week, I just spend most of my time on rings. I can hold an iron cross for about 10 seconds.

I'm guessing an olympian will have like an 8 or at least 6. The margin between the upper few percent of people in the sport is insane.
