Well folks, today is the final day for character submissions. Everyone so far who has shown real interest has already submitted a first draft character sheet, along with a character background.

What I'd like to see now, by Friday of this week, is a little more background for those who have only submitted a summary.

Also, I'm going to give out 35 free BPs to be spent on Skills only. I'd like to see some varied skill selections, and possibly more knowledge skills, and certainly some more Language Skills. Speaking of Knowledge skills, if anyone wants suggestions for them, just let me know. I'd be more than happy to help.

I'd also like to introduce this campaign's official website:

http://www.freewebs.com/theonerronin/index.htm
(Yes, there is an extra "r" in the URL...I didn't catch it until after I built the content.)

I've posted a few things on there, including some of my house rules. I've also included a special Forum that will represent a CAS Shadow community forum where runners, fixers, johnsons, and other scum will be posting different info. Also, this will be a place for the characters to solicit "in-game" info from the underworld community at large.

If there is anything you guys would like to see up on the site, please let me know.
TheOneRonin
Oh, and one more thing.

The Official Campaign name is

"To Catch A Mockingbird: Operation Dissonant Cadance".

The OOC and IC threads will be named as such.
TheOneRonin
Wow...you guys are chatty today.

Let me know what you guys think of the website. I'll be adding content as time permits.

smile.gif Guess I'll have to take over then...

The website looks really neat, with an astonishing amount of firearms pictures (I'm still troubled about the infant next to the AKs though...) that seem to multiply whenever I look away.
Where did you find all these? And some of them, especially in the smg section, look more like design studies, do they really exist (too tired to google them)?

I'm interested in joining your game as well, but was way too busy last week to do time consuming stuff like building a char with background, so no chance to meet that deadline.
Seems like you got your 5 slots filled already, so I'd just create competition and possibly push somebody else out anyway, right?
Quite a shame, because your immense houseruling looks really intriguing, combined with high-powered chars... *starts to drool*
Anyway, if there's still some room left (I don't mind playing a medic neither, seems like he'll be quite busy in your ruleset anyway), please tell me, otherwise reserve a spot for me in the next game you gm, mkay? wink.gif

Incidentally, sorry to not get the revised background to you yesterday I slacked off. I'll try and do it later today.

Heh, I have been ridiculously excited since this ad first came up.

Then...came the website.

Oh my lord, I think I'm in nerd heaven. I'm finishing up my background as we speak, and hope to have something actually worth reading by friday.

Keep in mind that the good Doc is on an enforced vacation for the next couple of days. This might factor into your proposed timeframe somewhat.

As for the 35 BP ... is now the time you were refering to where we can break up/ specialize our Skill Groups?

I'm honestly wondering what I might dump all those points into.

Or are we allowed to beat the previously outlined skill maximums?

Edit: With hindsight, that is probably obviously the case.

Thanks for the Kudos on the website. And don't be disturbed about the child in that pic...I had my first .22 rifle when I was about that age. It's real common around where I grew up. Kids learn to shoot before they learn to ride bikes.

As for the gun pics, a handful of them are fictional, but the rest are real. All of the images in the "Canon Firearms" gallery are drawings of guns found throughout the Shadowrun books. Needless to say, those are fictional.

Aside from a couple of firearm drawings, the guns in the other sections are real. I get my pics from lots of different places, but mostly:

Well, I'm nothing if not flexible. If you are interested in playing the medic character who's background I posted, I'd be willing to let you in. Or, if you want to whip up your own SpecOps medic, I'll consider that too. If you make your own character, you will have to be pretty quick, though. I plan on starting the game on Tuesday morning of next. Just let me know which way you want to go. Oh, and for the NPC medic, I do have his character sheet finished if you want to take a look.

Is he? I haven't really been keeping up with the other forums, so I didn't know about this.

Do you know when he is gonna be allowed back?
TheOneRonin
Yeah, I suppose I should have added a little more info about the skill points stuff.

1. Now is the time where you can break up your skill groups into individual skills and add specializations if you want. Make sure there is something on your character sheet that denotes which of your skills were originally in a group.

2. New limits on skills and skillgroups. Skillgroups are now capped at rating 6, but you can have no more than one skill group at 6. One individual skill can be raised to 7 (aptitude feat unnecessary), 2 skills (or one skill group and one skill) can be raised to 6, and no more than 5 skills/skillgroups can be raised/purchased at 5. As usual, the rest are capped at 4. Knowledge skills only have a max cap of 7 for one skill, and the rest can be 1-6.

3. Everyone with a Special Forces and/or Military Intelligence background was required to attend language school during their training. Language school usually teaches students two languages that are commonly spoken in and around the area they will be operating in. For most of you, that means the Gulf of Mexico and the surrounding areas. Spanish will be a very common second language, as well as Portuguese (Amazonia), French (Haiti and southern Louisiana), and Creole (Bahamas, Haiti and southern Louisiana). A rating of 3 or 4 probably about all you will need. However, this doesn't mean your character is restricted to JUST those languages. Other languages could have been picked up from parents/relatives at home, friends, school, etc. Also, on the character sheet you'll notice that there is a 5BP quality called "Extra Native Language". That's available as well, though I'll need some justification why.

With Skill Groups already having a limit of 5, this restriction is already being broken by a few people, and will be difficult to reconcile with the additional 35 BP.

QUOTE (Fortune)

What I'm trying to do with this is keep everyone from having superhuman capabilities in 6 or 7 skills, and instead being FUCKING PHENOMENAL at one skill, being WAY BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE at 2 skills(or one skill and one skill group), being TOP FUCKING NOTCH at 5 skills/skillgroups, and being Expert or below at everything else. I gave you guys more skill points so you can fill in the gaps and purchase some of the more esoteric skills, not so you can push your niche couple of skills into double digits. Plus, you can still take your FIREARMS 5, break it up, and raise Automatics to 7 (and add a specializaion), your Longarms to 6, and leave your Pistols at 5.

Fortune, if my restrictions are giving you fits, why don't you just setup your skills without any of my restrictions and send me the sheet. That way I can get a better idea of what you are trying to accomplish, and why my rules aren't letting you do so.

And don't worry about other people breaking my restrictions. I'm reviewing every character and helping people along when they miss a rule or two...or ten. wink.gif

Needless to say, none of the characters posted on this thread are final, accepted versions.
Fortune
QUOTE (TheOneRonin)

Wasn't worried about others. I was really referring mostly to myself.

It seems that I am giving you the impression that I am bitching a lot. frown.gif

Nothing could be farther from the truth, at least intent-wise. As I have said before, I just like to know all the variables to a situation, or at least as many as possible. I'm like this in real life too.
fistandantilus4.0
He's that way in my games too. It's just past of his charm. smile.gif
TheOneRonin
Thanks for the perspective, Fisty.

And Fortune, don't sweat it. I don't blame you for wanting to be 100% clear on everything that's on the table. I'm doing my best to try to provide that. And like I said before, if there is something you are trying to accomplish with your character that you can't achieve because of my restrictions, just pm me and we'll discuss it. I try not to be one of those inflexible, nazi-like GMs. I save that sort of fascism for the way I run my company's Network and Desktop support section. wink.gif

And that statement doesn't just apply to Fortune...if anyone out there is trying to accomplish a particular goal with their character but can't seem to hit it, let me know and we will work something out.
Fortune
I'm cool, and pretty much good to go ... almost.

Incidentally, I will try to explain my problem with your wording above ...

QUOTE

As written, in your original chargen rules, all Skill Groups were limited to 5. This could mean that a person could purchase say, 8 Groups, all at 5 (plus up to 3 additional skills at 5). Now, when it comes time to add points, his final result will not be in line with your rules (due to the skill/group limitations), even though his first draft was perfectly fine before the additional build point allotment (as there was no numerical limit to the number of Skill Groups at 5, only individual skills).

From an email he sent me, the limit on skills in the first post was supposed to apply to skillgroups AND skills.

That got me too. I had to redact my character frown.gif It's obvious what he meant once he pointed it out, but it is not the intuitive reading.

Cthulhudream's right. That's what I meant. Sorry for the confusion.
TheOneRonin
We are getting close to launch time, and there are a couple of posting rules for the actual game.

1. I will be posting content on Monday-Friday, usually in the morning or throughout the day. If I post content on a Monday and you don't reply before Tuesday morning, then you will be skipped and I will continue with the next posting.

2. I will only rarely post on weekends. And content posted there will usually not be time sensitive.

3. I know we all have life going on outside the game. But you can't post on a particular day/group of days, I'd really like for you to let me know in advance so I can make allowances.

4. If you have a particular rules question, post it in the OOC thread. Someone else might have the same question.

5. If you have a question about character knowledge, then post it in a PM. That way when you post shit in the IC thread like "That gunshot sounded like an AK-47, probably less than 100 meters away.", it will look like your character actually said it, rather than me saying it.

6. Please, please, please make sure you check your Dumpshock inbox often. I'll be sending a lot of communication that way.

7. I'll be posting game-relevant content on the website as well, so please make sure you check it fairly often. When I do put something of note up there, I'll try to make sure I echo it in the OOC thread.

Okay, here is the the roster I have so far:

Lt. Colonel John Mosby: Team Leader, HUMINT Specialist (Cthulhudreams)
Special Agent Vincent Byrne: former FBI HRT/Special Agent/Expert on the underworld (Mr. Juan)
Chief Warrant Officer Nick Rohzenko: Pilot/Rigger/EW Specialist (Doc Funk)
Sgt. First Class Ashley Fairchild: Scout/Sniper and Weapons specialist (Fortune)
Chief Petty Officer Ivan Beckett: Former SEAL, Team Mage (Galedeep)

Also, ZenZen has put his name in the hat to play the SpecOps Medic character. I don't have a character sheet or background yet, and if he doesn't get those to me by Monday, I'll be running "Coach" as the NPC medic.

Working hard on it (always hard to let go of good ideas because don't have enough BPs to realize them...and 600 BP with half skill cost sounded like plenty at first *curse you, awakened BP-sinks*).
So let's all pray to your respective deities that I manage the deadline because my char has the superior abilities when it comes to patching the bullet-ridden bodies of your char's back together (you gotta wipe the pool of blood away yourself, though).

Hope to meet you in-game soon.
Fortune
So, looks like the Doc won't be back till sometime on Tuesday (Wednesday to me). frown.gif
Cthulhudreams
Okay, Clear text character sheet AS DEMANDED

Totally background free, I want to rework it a bit around the edges, but the Boss has a good as gold version. Just not quite gold wink.gif

Calling em a HUMIT specialist is probably being a bit generous.

Mr Mosby has two tricks up his sleeves:

A) He can do everything pretty well, except cast spells - shooting, hacking, talking, walking, healing, flipping out and killing people, it's all good.

B) Is completely indistinguishable form a civilian without invasive medical testing, including while carting around a monowhip and a commlink, which is all he needs to break out badassery or otherwise do what needs doing. The only downer is that under house rules I cannot actually take a gun through a sec screen, but otherwise sitting pretty.

Edit: I just noticed the skills are from an old draft. I'll try and find where I have misplaced the new draft.

Edit2: Fixed.

Nope, you didn't miss anything directly.

For those who have submitted your characters to me in spreadsheet format, I'd like for you to convert that data to text and post it either here or via PM to me. I want the characters in that format so that when I start the OOC thread, I can list all the characters and their respective stats/backgrounds in the first post.

Fortune, you and a couple of others have already done that via PM, which is cool.

I do want everyone to be able to read everyone else's stats/background before the mission starts. Remember, you've all been a team for a couple of years now, so you know each other, and know what each of you is capable of.

In short, yes, the Charsheet and background will be public once the game starts. If you want to go ahead and post your approved sheet in this thread as well, please be my guest. cool.gif
Fortune
Ah, ok. That's cool.

I think I'll wait till the OOC for two reasons ...

#1. It's neater and easier to find later (and I'm somewhat anal, if you haven't figured that out yet wink.gif)

and more importantly ...

#2. I just might want to tweak that tiny bit more, and wouldn't want to post an incorrect sheet.

biggrin.gif
Fortune
That being said, I will post Ashley's background data. smile.gif
