Magicians give karma at a 1:1 ratio Aspected Magicians and Adepts give karma at a 2:1 ratio Mundanes give karma at a 3:1 ratio |
The trend seems to be, the more magically active one is, the better the transfer ratio.
What should the ratio be for a free spirit to give karma to another free spirit?

Probably 1:1, on a par with full Magicians.
Those with Enchanting abilities could do even better.

Do you mean conjuring instead of enchanting? I do not see where enchanting applies.

I assume we are talking about SR3.
If I recall correctly, successful use of the Enchanting Skill can affect the Karma ratio. I don't have any SR3 books right, now, but look in M&M.
As an aside, Spirits cannot have Conjuring (in any edition), as far as I know.

1:2. Free Spirits cooperating with each other should be able to generate unbounded karma.

Right. A character with Conjuring can perform a simple ritual to increase the ratio by 1. It is a Conjuring(F+Spirit Energy) Test. If a character does it on someone elses behalf, there is a +2 modifier.
I was wondering if it is even needed if the ratio started at 1:2.
1:1, modified by the ritual, creates 1:2.

I have found one way a spirit can. A Free Spirit may acquire the Possession Power, giving them access to all the skills and knowledge of the target. If the Possessed character could use Conjuring, the spirit would be able to also. (MitS.99)

Can you show me the (SR3) quote that allows a person to use Conjuring that way? I swear that I recall that Enchanting is described as being usable in that manner, but can't for the life of me recall anything of the sort being said about Conjuring.

This follows the ratios I listed earlier.

Fair enough.
I am still sure about the Enchanting thing (possibly in addition to that rule, or possibly it is SR2 that I am thinking of), but not having the books I cannot pursue the matter in any further depth.

MitS page 116, the whole part about giving karma to free spirits.
No mention of Enchanting on that page.
On the other hand, you may have experienced some concept drift from the enchanting section description of unique enchantments. Some odd hybrid concept of the "turn toxic spirit to guacamole", the "sustain spirit during downcycle" and the actual section on strengthening a free spirit (which could lead to it being strong enough to live in a mana warp and/or re-aspecting itself to be a Spirit of Guacamole).
Edit: and now I have yet another magical (N?)PC idea...
[ Spoiler ]
Guacamole engulf: (F)L(Stun) damage, more if subject is allergic
Commune with guacamole: useful if you want to know what happens in the lives of people who don't eat their complementary guacamole.
Wealth (of guacamole): so you can afford to provide sides of guacamole with everything. Everything.

Yep! I have come to the conclusion that senility is definitely setting in. I am now sure I was confusing the rules for using Enchanting to reduce Bonding costs (combined with other non-Shadowrun crap) with the proper Conjuring rules.
So ... ignore me.
