I'm not the head of the pack, as it were.
However, if you're just being silly and looking for my OK, go for it.
Or, if you're just confused... It's OK... We're here for you. Well, maybe not.
Either way, for those interested, John Eagle Eyes is done, with an amazing 2.37 Essence still in him.
I think the only thing he doesn't have is the kitchen sink, and he may or may not be working on that.

Oops, sorry Tanka... I got the names confused since you were posting so much.
Anyway, put me down for the Demolitionist, Moose... I'll start work on him in a little while. Might have him in tomorrow or the day after, depending on what comes up.
Out of curiosity, what's the standard armament for a Sioux Wildcat? What kind of weapons and armor are we normally issued? Do I need to buy all of my explosives or will it be supplied each mission? Do we need to buy our own personal comm units/transcievers? Do we live "on base," or do we need to buy our own lifestyle? Hopefully I didn't miss any responses when I scanned through all the posts made since I saw this this afternoon.

Well...
Ah hell, what's the harm? Worst that can happen: Another PBP game goes under. WOn't be the first time.
Alright, i'm interested.
What spots are still open?

I'm cooking up a comm specialist... can't really muster the right feel for a military shaman...

Nov 21 2003, 06:26 AM
I had an idea once for a military combat shaman following the totem of wolf. He was Salish, but I think I can tailor him for the Sioux.
Just to ask: what kind of beliefs do the typical Sioux hold? Do they hate Anglos, or do they co-exist more peacefully than other tribes? What about general attitudes or political views?
Just trying to create a more interesting character.

Alright... almost done cooking up the stats for my linquist/stealth decker... managed to actually make him combat ready enough to justify spec ops as well... also kept to 5.77 Essence. I'm so tempted to have him SURGEd... dunno... will probably yank out my backup of YoTC, and do some rolls up.
One question: Wouldn't Souix be it's own language? There's a tribe, they likely had, and have brought back, their own dialect.
Er... yeah, and a list of Native Dialects'd help too... for reference...
moosegod
Nov 21 2003, 03:38 PM
Well, we almost have a full complement.
Just need a medic.
The tribes each had their own language before the Anglos showed up, but now most of the major tribes speak Sioux, if they speak a Native language at all. If you have YotC, that has most of the info I'm working off of. Yes, you can be SURGE'd- but you don't have to pay the 5 points to be a changeling.
The Sioux act like the US for the Native tribes- sticking their noses where they aren't always wanted. Most of the other nations don't mind so much, however.
Standard issue gear? The heaviest armor will be light hardened military grade. Pretty much any type of gun you want, although they mostly use Shiawise Armaments gear or Ares. They are suspicious of Ares, however, because they know Ares backs the UCAS army. The UCAS and the Sioux Nation don't get along together too well- the Sioux are suspicious of the UCAS trying to reclaim their old territory.

Is the game still open to new players? if so, I'll submit a medic.

Everyone, for those of you taking cyberware, please try and fit the BattleTac Receiver into your list of cyber. Those of you not taking cyber, please buy the external unit as part of your gear. The cyberware is .2 essence and 30k nuyen, so it shouldn't be too hard to stick in there.
I'm going to be taking Small Unit Tactics and the BattleTac will give me a huge bonus in that, which in turn will give you all a bonus as well. I haven't decided if I'm gonig to take the Tactical Computer yet, but I will at the very least have a BattleTac Receiver.
(sidenote: for the Shamans, I don't know how you feel about this, but you may consider taking 1 point worth of cyberware and offsetting the magic loss with a Gaes. With one point you can get the cyber BattleTac, head radio, and a Smartlink. Pretty handy stuff for only lossing 1 essence.)

I would sooner hack of your limb, then pollute my body with your foul technology!
Hehe. No really, I have never understood why a mage would get cyberware. It really would be like hacking off a limb. It isn't just a number, so I think I will passs. I am trying to make a Mountain Shaman work, he would specialize in manipulation spells (lightning, fire etc...).
moosegod
Nov 21 2003, 05:16 PM
You should also pick up some "support" type spells.
Not necessarily Heal and Treat, since TinkerGnome is doing a shamanist, but increase reflexes, improved invis, etc.
Wait a minute. Mountain shaman? You realize that the Sioux live on the Great Plains, right?

Will you be able to fit the external unit onto your equipment list?
Shadow
Nov 21 2003, 05:32 PM
Well having grown up my entire life with in spitting distance of a mountain is hard for me to conceive an area without mountains. So your saying that there are no mountains at all, where they live. Hmm, ok so I will play around with some other ideas.
How about Mythic totems?
moosegod
Nov 21 2003, 05:33 PM
I mean, you could do a Mountain totem, but it seems a stretch. I'm going to get YotC and my MitS and look it over.
Shadow
Nov 21 2003, 05:38 PM
I only have MiTS so anything I would do would be from that. What about Mythics though?

Okay, I've started messing around with the numbers to see if I could make my Adept Demolitions Expert/Scout/Tracker (complete with a ruthenium polymer full camo suit) idea work and it looks promising.
So even if he's not busy blowing shit up, he'll still serve a useful function in the group.
I should have something tangible in to you by tonight or tomorrow, Moose.

I assume we can select gear and whatnot from any 3rd Edition books, right? Just curious before I start picking stuff outta SOTA: 2063.
moosegod
Nov 21 2003, 06:32 PM
Within reason. After all, you guys get this stuff earlier than the streets.
But something that comes out in Dec. 2063 is too far. This game starts in March of 2062.

Ok, I understand that for cyberware we are capped at availibility 12, but what about for equipment? I was going to get some APDS an AV ammo, but they are 14 and 16 on the availibility. You had also mentioned to tanka about getting an Ares Redline, which has an availibility of 18, so I assume that we can go at least that high, I just wanted to make sure.
moosegod
Nov 21 2003, 07:24 PM
Yep. The cap on cyberware is only there to reflect that the Sioux don't use a lot. If you have your heart set on something that makes sense, swing it by me.

I think I'm trying to do too many things. Right now, I've got a medico/sniper/sorcerer and I'm running short of points. This requires some rethinking. What areas does the team lack strength in?
Grey
Nov 21 2003, 07:29 PM
I would like AV ammo & APDS ammo for my rifle (a Walther MA-2100) and some Light Military Armor with a Helmet.
edit: Also, how many arrowheads can I Dikote with one 100 cm unit of the stuff? I usually use 10 arrows per 100 cm, but I wanted to make sure that was fine by you.

How much Ruthinium Polymer do I need to cover the Light Military Armor and its Helmet?

Grey
Nov 21 2003, 07:52 PM
Awww! But it'll be so much fun! Military Armor can have so many neat things added to it. What makes the Ruthinium extra fun is the Thermal Dampening added on top of it!

Ol' Scratch
Nov 21 2003, 08:35 PM
Do we need to purchase a Personal Comm Unit or Transciever? If so, what ratings should we get (it wouldn't make much sense for everyone to have different ratings since you lose the lowest one on the network if memory serves) and whatnot?
TinkerGnome
Nov 21 2003, 08:40 PM
I think the group was wanting to do battletac systems instead of comm links. I think that'll cover both roles.
Ol' Scratch
Nov 21 2003, 08:47 PM
I was under the impression that they were completely different. Can someone double check that?
Yeah, I was right. They need to be hooked to at least a Transciever (Rating 4). CC, p. 53. A Personal Unit would be ideal; it includes a Transciever, headset, DNI control, (Rating x2) frequencies, ECCM, and Encryption equal to its rating. That's assuming someone snags a Master Unit, of course.
TinkerGnome
Nov 21 2003, 08:53 PM
Yeah, I see that. I think someone was buying a master battletac unit. You don't really have to have the master comm unit to use the personal comm units, though.
Ol' Scratch
Nov 21 2003, 09:00 PM
Personal Comm Unit (Rating 4) would probably be good enough for us for now. If we have trouble keeping our communications network encrypted, we can always (get the Sioux Nation to) upgrade the units.
Any objections? A Personal Comm Unit (Rating 4) costs 6,000 nuyen, weights half a kilo, and has a Concealability of 9 for those who don't own CC. You don't need any other gear to use it, such as subvocal microphones or earplugs, so it's a pretty good investment compared to a Transciever or even a Micro-Transciever.
Tanka
Nov 21 2003, 09:06 PM
Well, for right now I have to skip the BattleTac... I don't have the nuyen for it. Especially since I want to be Essence-friendly with Betaware!
Sounds like an ad...
"Now you can be Essence-friendly too, with Betaware®!"
Other than that, dropped to 2.22 Essence and have 7k sitting about. I'll drop another 3k of stuff to get the external at 10k.

Yes.
The first requirement for the Wildcat Initiation is Oath (Sioux Nation). You have to pay no dues. Wait until I have some time to make the group that you'll be using.
Remember to pay the 3 karma to join the group.
Dr. Funk Note this is a reversal of my original position!
