So do we have any coasties around here on the board? If my memory serves there was a thread back near the beginning of the year that mentioned them slightly but I can't remember if we had an members or ex-members that responded or if it was mostly a navy affair. Main reason I'm asking was to try and find out what sort of general training the USCG give people when they join up, and then maybe an idea of some of the specialisations for a possible character background idea.

I was in the USCG - for about six weeks. I'd originally gone through MEPS with the USMC and even though my hearing was classified as a '2' they put me through. The Coast Guard offered me a sweeter deal, but then at Cape May they called my hearing a '3' - and since they weren't giving waivers back in '95, that was my involuntary ticket home. It also meant that I couldn't go back to the USMC - or any other branch at the time - since that '3' still stuck. At least it gave me a good reason to go back to school...

Forgot about this thread. Thanks for the links, the 'Navy Equivalent of a Supply Sergeant?' thread was the one that gave me the original idea but then I couldn't remember the name of or find again later on. Since Thain appears to be either an ex or current USCG member sent him a PM but since it looks like he's dropped off the boards I don't hold out much hope. Thanks again anyway.
