Just because some posters agree with you and the moderators let you get away with this crap doesn't mean it isn't wrong |
Hi, me again, one of those annoying mod guys. To reiterate what eidolon said, Critias' original post wasn't a bait. We even sat our happy go lucky mod tails down and discussed it. It was pretty clear to everyone that Critias' question was legitimate and authentic. Again, as eidolon siad, it could have been worder nicer, but that's how things are. We do try to give leeway with wording, because frankly being chummy isn't in the guidelines.
However baiting is. Baiting is posting specifically to piss someone off and generally try to engage them in an arguement. I don't think anyone doubts that was the purpose of the second thread. Generally we do try to keep general discussion about this stuff off the main boards, and yes Buster, you did PM me about that, which is appreciated. I hadn't replied yet, because as I said, I ran it past everyone else first. You seemed concerned about preferential treatment, and I do try to acknowledge any potential biases I may have. So I asked everyone, and passed on your PM.
Now, we have another post continuing the arguement, and sure enough Critias is responding, with what are clearly a number of personal attacks. Critias had made an effort not to respond in kind, which is appreciated. But really if you keep poking at a guy, he's gonna poke back.
So to both parties, please, just let it drop. Buster seems to have perceived this thread originally as an insult directed at him. Critias said that it isn't, and was no intended to be so. That's really all that needed to be said. Move along, nothing more to see here.

The munchkins this time around seem to be more number-crunching than characters intended for play. It gives a much different tone to the other posters' comments.
Before, we had newbie players trying to min-max, so the advice was more along the lines of "You should really have an etiquette skill, and he won't be able to take his combat axe on the subway, so you need a backup weapon." Now it's more like "Good dodge build. You could get reakt to add two more dice."

Could also be that role playing is the point of the game, and thusly, role playable characters don't warrant remark. |
Pretty much how I see it. For example, I'm quite certain I could sift through KK's considerable number of character sheets and nitpick away at the way all the resources and karma have been spent and end up with "better" sheets by getting rid of some of the "useless fluff" skills and equipment. KK would also then be completely justified in laughing at my dumb newbie ass for completely missing the point of why those characters were ever made that way in the first place. After all, who here is really qualified to say what an "optimized" mildly dain bramaged samurai with an old west fetish's sheet is supposed to look like?
