Full Version: Technomancers and minimum fading DV

Rules Query:

ShadowRun 4 core book, page 237 states that a technomancer's fading is (in game terms) similar to a magic-user's drain. It then goes on to say that the drain from compiling a sprite is equal to twice the hits generated by the sprite (but does not mention a minimum DV).

A mage summonning a spirit uses the same rules, but has a DV 2 minimum on the drain. Should technomancers take the same minimum DV 2 from compiling a sprite (the same as magic users), or is there intentionally no minimum?

Oversight/typo or by design?

What do people think?

Even if it is a typo or oversight, I wouldnt worry about it.

Technomancers have it hard enough as it is, without kicking them in the jimmies again.

Given the general quality of the matrix rules, who knows? As is, you have no rule instituting a minimum DV. From a balance perspective, it does not matter, seeing that the minimum DV value is a whopping 2. So leave it be.

Just before I discovered these forums I threw an email to Rob (it was a punt, and I wasn't 100% sure whether he would answer) - just had a reply back:

Yeah, the minimum should be 2, same as spirits.

So there we have it.

Hurrah for SR & Catalyst, where the developers will actually take the time to respond to questions biggrin.gif

Now if only they would offically close the gap on allowing unlimited Threading. (Sure, I'm a huge fan of using the "-2 per Try Again Attempt" Rule to cover it, but not everyone agrees.) cyber.gif
