Wasn;t really a movie. It was a live action promotional trailer that was only like 10 or 15 minutes long. Some video tapes got sent out to gaming stores, but very few people have ever seen it, or even know about it.

Basically, imagine a really, really bad late 80's hair-band music video. It was kinda horrific. ork.gif

Got a copy of this on my desktop its funny as hell, like a bad late night pay cable movie. Shirtless sammie and the really bad strippers they must have hired as actress's.

Two things that stand out about it, sammie is holding a gun that is a match for one on sammie catalog cover and blonde caster I believe was based on Sally from 1st and 2nd edition covers. Looking back the UMS matrix icons made me laugh out loud.

Getting kind in your old age, Grep?

Just Garbage? I'd be pelting him with something else, myself.

Or, better yet, finding a Troll to pelt stuff at him. Better throwing arm.

Must be the UV out here bleaching my brain. I've got a tan for god sakes...how un-geek is that. rotfl.gif

Now getting back on topic... If it were to be done at all Anime would work best. If they could make something with the appeal of Cowboy Bebob but with the tech of GitS & magic of Full Metal Alc they whould have a hit. The d(a)emon is in the details and its certainly hard to find anything to compare against GitS or CB.
Oh and for CanRay...Now GET OFF MY LAWN ya damn kids smile.gif .

Is anyone having flashbacks to the Dungeons and Dragons movie? *Shudder* They needed only to add "Uni" from the 80s cartoon to make the horror complete.

Let's pretend that licensing wasn't an issue. Making a Shadowrun movie appeal to a mass audience (ie: profitable) would be a very difficult proposition. It doesn't have instant name recognition (no famous authors or proponents [like Vin Diesel with D&D or Tori Spelling with Vampire]) and only a handful of mediocre-to-bad video games, trading cards and a few collectible miniatures in terms of merchandise) and film production companies make so few sci-fi films as is. The Matrix was the last major orgasm of the cyberpunk film genre and that was 10 years ago (not counting the sequels). I don't think sticking elves and orks into Blade Runner would make it past the proposal stage at any studio.

The only way I could ever see a Shadowrun movie getting made would be a group of computer geeks getting together and creating their own animated film and removing all recognizable Shadowrun names to avoid a big fat lawsuit.

Yes Wesley in fact see post #12 someone does mention D&D the movie and the other fine points you bring up.

What, you expect me to read 53 WHOLE POSTS before shooting my mouth off? I'm a busy man!!! nyahnyah.gif

I was saying I agree with your point. Someone I know wants to make an SR movie and I volunteered to help, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around how we could even start doing it. If we don't have CG it's practically impossible.

edit

*shrug* I skim most posts before posting or at least the first few pages if it is under 4. Wasn't berating you for your post though. It makes sense and I never thought about the merchandise marketing for cyber punk games. You are right though it is practically impossible to sell action figures. The first Matrix was a good movie but no one really wanted to buy the action figures.

Hmm I personally believe that a good movie could be done using shadowrun as a source. The movie does not have to delve into the entire shadowrun story. But they could take a good novel series Such as the original shadowrun trilogy never cut a deal with a dragon.. and turn it into a movie.

Or even a movie based off the new trilogy.

A little background of the world and what happened to it could be given by narration written or spoken. And then get into the meat of the story. If the movie was well directed and had a decent budget and a good script it could turn out ok... What was the name of the chick in that new trilogy series? Kelen Colt or something like that? Do a movie based off that trilogy. Dont try to tackle the entire shadowrun world. Let the movie set the tone of the world.

Check out New Rose Hotel. It's not a very good movie but it's the perfect example of a low-budget way to do cyberpunk.

I can certainly see the appeal of doing a fanfilm but you might want to suggest to your friend that doing something like Shadowrun, only with the serial numbers filed off, would be the better way to go. You'll be putting a lot of man-hours into filming, editing, and composing this project and in the end... legally you won't be able to do a thing with it other than show it on YouTube. You can't sell any DVDs or related merchandise (which is where the real $$$ is). Neuromancer meets Lord of the Rings may primarily be the domain of Shadowrun and it's owners but they don't own the rights to that concept; just the specific names, events, places, etc. etc.

I don't know, but that new trilogy, with Kellen Colt...really, really sucks. I've only read the first book, but honestly, it was the most boring run I've ever read...so while you may want to use the characters and concepts, don't use that plot, its pretty poor, IMO.

I read a few pages back the Johnny Mneumonic haters...I actually love that movie! That fits SR to a "T". Granted, the technology was a lot more 1st edition, but I could see a similar movie with SR4 updates. I guess the big thing is to take the concept (as many have mentioned) and run with it. Get the races, the technology, the magic, the AAA corps and then narrow the scope to a single run...even a basic sneak and grab would be fun, as all the underlying facets would be enough wow to move the story.

But then again, as a fan created flick, I'd probably prefer a short. If it goes well, you can add some other installments. If not, you did waste too much money nor much of the viewers time.
