by the way: the armored taxi game from DOS days was called "quarantine"! I loved that one!

Cheers,

Kyoto Kid
...when I was working on Violet (3rd ed) I originally intended to give her a Thompson Machine Gun called "Snuggles"

In the Jagged Alliance 2 1.13 mod, the Ithaca shotty has a text description along the lines of "chamber a round and watch everyone in the room fight for bowel control." I thought that was extremely funny and your post reminded me.

I'm about to start playing a rigger character who is an ex-cop... she has two LEBD-1 law enforcement drones named 'Andy' and 'Barney' - both with AK-97s (though Andy gets his swapped for a stungun when we are trying to look legal). She also has a flyspy named 'Mulder'

heh, sounds like the dolph's character in johnny mnemonic...

Hmm, haven't started naming my weapons yet. Just started using the Arsenal weapon-mod rules so I suppose it's only a matter of time.

Actually, I've been thinking of calling one of my guns "Whisper." It' a Hammerli620S with a silencer, skinlink, and the voice activation/response mod. My characters' an adept with sensitive system, so instead of getting an implanted smartlink, he uses a subvocal mic to control the gun. (Hammerli 620S comes with integral smartgun system "off the shelf")

Might name my tweaked shock gloves "riot control". They have an extended battery capacity and a second mode that lets them draw 2 charges and deal 10S(e), with a -1 attack penalty. Basically ad-hoc'ed the Extended Clip and Firing Selection Change (SS to SS/SA) mods.

My German sammy (full-body replacement) has a heavily modified Ares Alpha named Gemetzel (German for "slaughter).

I have a cybered adept somewhere with two synthetic forearms and cyberarm gyromounts. He wields dual Ingram Smartgun X's named Left and Right.

From back in the EverQuest days, I love the names "Woe" and "Envy".
Tyro
My rigger's drones are Musachi (Modified Wuxing Crimson Samurai), Freki and Geri (Modified Dobermans). The van doesn't have a name, nor do the "niche" drones; just the combat ones.

hmm, musachi, didnt motoko call one of the teachicomas that in solid state?

From Mayamoto Musachi, one of the greatest Samurai of historical Japan. Author of The Book of Five Rings.

Mr. Happy.

Oh, you mean the other weapon. Back in 3rd my Faceman/Sniper had an ancient Barrett 82A1A named Hellion.

Almost forgot the most long lasting one. Absolution was the name of Father McDonald's Roomsweeper. He loved to give Absolution.

I called a longsword "Hyperion".

Entertainingly enough, he ended up dying by being tossed into a giant pit along with the rest of the team and having it collapse on him.
Stahlseele
him the sword?
things like swords end usually up being called can-opener, tooth-pick or pig-sticker or something like that . .
yes, i play trolls, why do you ask?
kanislatrans
My rigger "tick-tock" named his LMG " Your Mother"

as in :

"We got work? Great!! I'd better go mount "Your Mother"!" grinbig.gif
Brother Julian
My character Bam Bam only has one named weapon so far, "Rebeka", she is his verry favorit gun. Fyi, it is a Walther MA-2100.

In real life I used to work on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle when I was in the army and the battallion comander of 1/9 mechanized infantry had a track named "Spank-O-Matic". The O was painted to look like a targeting reticle and the name was located on the TOW launcher.

Brother Julian, Defender of the Faith.

You mean "Musashi"?

Perhaps they're using a different Romanisation scheme.

It's not the silliest different between the schemes, after all.

I've seen it both ways. It's pronounced the same either way you spell it; that's a common problem with transliteration.

Hmm... I'm surprised nobody's come forward with a sword named Steppin' Razor yet. Maybe because their characters were already named Steppin' Razor? eek.gif

I'm afraid I don't get the reference.

Actually, no. They are distinct kana, and Japanese uses a syllabic alphabet. The name is transliterated directly from the kana that are used by the Japanese to pronounce the name. The distinction between the "shi" and "chi" indicates a different pronunciation.

Japanese romanisation systems do not map multiple kana to the same string, and do not map the same kana to multiple strings.

Now, you might have seen it spelt both ways because of some kind of mistake. This does not negate the fact that it isn't pronounced the same.

I bow to superior knowledge. The Japanese language is not a subject I know much about.

[Edit]: I do know enough about language in general to appreciate what you said.

Heath Robinson is correct. I was actually going to post something to this effect but decided to play Fallout 3 instead. But, yeah, if you want to be correct, you can't just romanize Japanese however you want. There's a certain degree of standardization for academic and business purposes if someone wants to use romaji.
Tyro
I'm a singer; my interest in language is mostly for pronunciation, so I appreciate having standards. The IPA is FAR underused.

I can sight-sing Spanish, Italian, some German, some French, Latin if I think about it, and I want to learn to sing Gaelic. I don't understand what it says; I just want to be able to sing it properly.

William Gibson, the grand daddy of Cyberbunk, from Neuromancer, the original Cyberpunk novel (which I read only recently, despite being into Shadowrun for like 8 years). Steppin' Razor is actually a lyric from a reggae song. But in Neuromancer, some rastafarians (who live in their own orbiting space station) call the sexy street samurai chick Steppin' Razor as a sign of respect for her prowess.

On the topic of romanization, what jackass decided that for Chinese, Ng would be Woo, and Nguyen would be Wing? Seriously!

Damn... I even read Neuromancer, but I didn't get it. Probably because it's been so long.

I had a slow technomancer ork named Brick. He called his gun Trident.

"Brick killed a man with a Trident".

Also an achievement on Halo 3 for killing I think it is 5 people within 2 seconds of each other with the Sword.. Or something similar.
