Technical 2,1 - use one character point (5) = 8 successes

Figured something like that is pretty important

Look at this. Checking the logs on the life support, they dumped most of the ship's oxygen. Reason statedL "It must be reacting to the oxygen."
I think we may be better off leaving the life support off for the time being. We've got plenty of air and I think it would be better not to complicate the situation.

Daylin keys his datapad via commlink to the life support system controls to give him remote access in case of an emergency, then looks at restoring general power. Day;in scans the sip's logs as well, but finds only engineering logs are accessible from here. Remembering an important detail, Daylin calls over to Kolbacca via commlink.

Kolbacca this is Daylin. We've found some bodies, no signs of intruders. Right now we're on a theory about possibly spores. If you can, do me a favor please, and see if you can vent the Hawk's airlock into the vacuum, jsut incase any of it got from here to there when we came aboard. We may have to decon when we return as well, but for now, we should take every precaution.
NerfHerder
It appears only one person was attacked, Gand can see no signs of damage on these others. Gand will have a full oxygen tank, if anyone starts to run low let Gand know and we can transfer.

O'olan stands from checking the bodies, walking to stand in front of the open blast doors.

Things are definately odd on this ship Captain. We should be sure to keep our suits sealed and make sure not to snag them on anything. Kol, see if you can pull up any diseases, plagues, or epidemics that existed around the time frame these ships were in service. That info should be available on the holonet somewhere.
Unarmed
Kolbacca is brought out of her boredom by Daylin's voice over the commlink. The controls of this particular freighter are not familiar to her, but when you've seen one stock light freighter, you've seen them all. Kolbacca vents the contents of the airlock back out into space, and for good measure, runs a scan of the ship's internal atmosphere.

Checking the ship's computer for a translation program, she manages to find one, and a computerized female voice answers Daylin.

The airlock has been vented. I'm running a scan on the Hawk's atmosphere, just in case. Suddenly I'm not so sad about being stuck back here...

The computer beeps after a few minutes and declares that the internal air is free of contaminants.

After about a minute of uncomfortably sitting in the non-wookie sized captain's chair, Kolbacca stands up and checks on the plague search. She studies the monitor for a second. The synthetic female voice comes over the comms again.

The Hawk's atmosphere is free of contaminants. Everything seems fine over here.

Then, Kolbacca changes the comm channel, so that she is only speaking to her Gand partner.

I found one plague that is oxygen reactive around that time frame. Doesn't affect humanoid races, mostly, but Verpine and other insectoid races were affected. Stay safe out there. I can't have you getting infected by something before we can even track down Ma'nosh. Do you see any Verpine bodies?
fistandantilus4.0
Stepping away from the panel, Daylin shrugs in his suit.

Well at least we've got emegerncy lighting. I'm gong to find that junction and see what's going on there.
Dayling calls up the map again, quickly getting the route to the problem in his mind, and heads towards it.
ludomastro
Daylin heads out into the hallway. The emergency lighting casts a pale glow over the hall. There is enough light to reach an escape pod or perhaps navigate the hall during battle. However, searching for a the junction is a little more intense. With the help of the map he is able to reach the junction without a problem. The cover is still in place over the junction; however, it is at an odd angle and covered in the same dark substance O'olan insists is blood.
fistandantilus4.0
Daylin reaches out tentativley and pushes at the cover with his flashlight.
ludomastro
The cover falls over and there is a body crumpled around the coupling.
fistandantilus4.0
Damn. Not what I'd expected.

O'olan, can I get a hand here? We've got a body in one of the junction tubes.

Daylin grimaces, grateful for the vacuum.

Daylin backs away

Hal, I think it's time to leave.

Daylin moves over to the engineering console again to see what he can do about setting off an overload on the ship's reactors.
NerfHerder
Swithching the comm to reply to Kolbacca Thanks for the warning Kol, Gand will be as safe as is possible looking after these three. We have not come across anything other than what appear to be Humans.

Gand is on his way to you Daylin, the body looks Humanoid yes? Or at least the skeleton used to be on the inside right?

O'olan, Rand, and Hal start down the corridor to where Daylin indicated the first coupling would be. Suddenly the large Gand stops stock still, obviously frightened.

Did anyone else hear that? Flicking over his comm to have a private conversation with Daylin, O'olan asks in a rather strangled voice, Daylin you said earlier you felt something here on the ship? Gand assumes you have some experience with this sort of thing yes?

I hope my suspicions about this old man are true, we may need him before we are back on our own ship.

Clearing his mind of the momentary fear that gripped him when he heard the voice in his head O'olan reaches out through his inner Mist to feel the ship around him, checking for unseen presences.

[ Spoiler ]

Ophis
Rand glances round as Daylin moves, then follows after him. I second that old man. We're not alone here.

Rand scans the corridor in both directions with his eyes and keeping his blaster up.

Kolbacca shudders as a chill runs down her spine. There is something wrong about this ship.

Just making sure that everything is okay over there. If we're leaving in a hurry, would you like me to start programming the ship's navcomputer again? We were heading for Dantooine, yes?

Kolbacca makes sure that all the Hawk's systems are good to go for a quick escape.
Lady Door
Suddenly realizing she's alone on the bridge, Hal heads out the door meaning to follow Daylin.
The voice catches her in midthought and almost stops her heart with fear. What? What is that? Looking around, Hal calls out and casts the light from her flashlight around the room.
Hello? Who's there?
fistandantilus4.0
SO I'm not the only one it's harassing ...

Ther's some sort of malignant entity here. Maybe something stuck halfway between reality and chaos. Hal, I don't think we should chance staying. It may be a specter. It might be something worst.

It might be something still alive

Daylin slashes back briefly to the sith on that forgotten planet years ago. The one he murdered. He stands and heads towards the engineering bay.
Lady Door
Over the comms, Hal's voice is that familiar mixture of scared and angry. .. halfway between reality and chaos? What are you talking about, D?!! There's someone on this ship... maybe using the comms system against us. Most likely another smugglers group. They've found the ship and want sole salvage rights. C'mon, I thought you were all MEN, for crying out loud!
Hal's flashlight beam continues to search the passages and doorways leading away from the bridge. What is going on here? Maybe we should re-group on the ship... but, what if I'm right? What if it's just another band of smugglers and I lose out on a fat payday. ARGH! I hate being Captain sometimes.
fistandantilus4.0
Alright Hal, you heard something. I'm willing to bet you the Hawk and this ship that you didn't hear what I heard. can't do that with intercoms.

Daylin gives her alevel look saying that he is dead serious.
Ophis
Okay, Daylin what did you hear?

Rand glances over towards Hal, his face showing a flash of concern and care.
fistandantilus4.0
Daylin waits , looking levely at Hal, to see if she'll answer.
Lady Door
I heard someone tell me that I could be great... is that what you heard? She returns the level look. If there is anyone she trusts to help her make head or tails of what is going on... it's D.
Her eyes flash to those of Rand, asking him the same question without saying a word.
fistandantilus4.0
It promised me dark secrets. A fools promise that is.

You can't promise to give someone something they already had and gave up.

Daylin nods at her, as if approving, and wonders if she even cares, then procceeds to the engineering bay, int4ending to set the reactor to blow. On the comms:

Kolbacca we may need to get out of here in a hurry.
Lady Door
Hal just watches Daylin walk away, confused by the feeling that she just passed some kind of strange test. Looking to Rand, she shakes her head and asks,
What did you hear?
fistandantilus4.0
It doesn't matter what any of us heard. It's lies and temptation. Dark seduction with no substance. There's nothing hidden in the darkness but more darkness. There's no hidden treasure there. What ever it is , we want nothing to do with it.

I want nothing to do with it. Nothing. Nothing nothing nothing... nothing noth..

Daylin tries to control himself, blocking out thoughts of the tempations he's been working so hard at resisting. This is no time to slide back. There was nothing that way for him. Nothing in the past worth dwelling on.
ludomastro
Daylin finds a cooling loop for the reactor that can be shutdown. However, the system must be tricked into believing the safety system is in test mode and the bypass valve is open. That can only be done manually. However, the valve is nearby in another section of engineering.

Daylin looks up from the control panel.

Hal, I kow you want this ship. but what ever was here cost these men their lives. It's arrogance to think we're any better. I think we should destroy this ship. Whatever killed them is still here. It's not a plague. It's something intelligent and malignant. It should be sent back to the Chaos that spawned it.
NerfHerder
Captain, other than us, there is nothing living aboard this vessel. Of that Gand is sure. Gand thinks Daylin's suggestion is our proper course, destroy this vessel and leave. Not necessarily in that order. What must we do to do this?
Lady Door
Hal sighs in frustration and anger, hitting her fist against the wall. Gritting her teeth she nods.
This could have been it. This could have been my ticket to never having to lie again...
She just nods and looks at Daylin. Do you what you need to do.
fistandantilus4.0
It looks liek there's a manual override here that will bypass the cooling systems for the engines. We can use that to blow it.

We could still salvage for scrap. but what ever is here needsto be destroyed.

Daylin heads to the manual junction to deactivate the safeties.

Lady Door
Hal stares at Daylin as he walks away, her anger rising with each step he takes further. You really don't care? Do you? All you think about is yourself... sitting there in your bunk with the door closed day after day... all you care about is yourself! You have no idea what kind of sacrifice this is for me, do you? Hal's jaw tightens and she clenches the flashlight close.
Keying up the comms system, Hal calls for Kolbacca. Her voice is strained and flat.
Kolbacca, I need you to run a decontamination protocol for us when we come back in. The protocol is listed in the ship's menu options. I'd get it started. It looks like we'll be back sooner then expected.
NerfHerder
Daylin, wait, you should not go alone. Rand watch over the Captain while Gand goes after this old fool. Maybe the two of you should head back to the 'Hawk, Daylin and Gand will follow as soon as we have set the ship to blow.

Nodding to the young Humans O'olan turns and starts to jog after the old man.

Old fool, you will not set yourself apart to fight this thing on your own, if that is your intention. I've got my suspicions about you, and until I have found out a few more things, you are not going anywhere without my eyes on you.
fistandantilus4.0
Daylin waits for the gand to catch up. Suspicion is his first thought. The gand awsn't exactly forthcoming about what he had heard from the Voice.

Stop it. Quiet your mind. Fear has a way of gnawing at you. Trust is the weapon against fear.

Good to have you O'olan. I don't know what twist of the fate or Force brought us all together, but I don't believe in chance. There's no such thing as coincidence
NerfHerder
The Universal Mist connects all things Daylin, I also do not believe in chance. If it is a fight with this entity that you wish, you have a stalwart companion by your side. Though I know not the way to harm it, tell me and I will do what I can. My strength and Mist are yours in this fight.
fistandantilus4.0
Fight? Not if I can avoid it. Fighting the darkside just gives it strength. Resisting it will do far more. Ignore it's pull, concentrate on life, and allies, on honor. This thing reeks of tempation. That's the lure of the Dark Side. Give it no purchase.

We'll blow this thing, and hopefully destroy what ever anchor it has keeping it from the oblivion of Chaos.
Ophis
Rand watch's the Gnad and Daylin move off. He keeps his blaster up and keeps scanning in case of danger. He glances over to Hal.

Since you asked sweetheart, it offered me safety.
Unarmed
Scrambling to get to the controls in front of her, Kolbacca begins to initiate the decontamination sequence for the airlock. She also makes sure the sublight engines are fully on and ready to go, and begins re-entering coordinates in the navcomputer, to once again put them on a course for Dantooine.

Decontamination processes started. I'll see you when I see you, but we'll be good to go, whenever that is.
ludomastro
Daylin and O'olan are able to quickly located the bypass valve. There are several bodies clustered around it. They obviously killed one another over the valve. The cover has been removed and the wiring pulled out. It appears that one of those present was trying to initiate the same type of core meltdown. The additional tweaks needed for the wiring are minimal.
fistandantilus4.0
This isn't good. They were trying to destroy the ship as well. If only we could tell which faction was trying to destroy it.

I wonder what this thing was hauling ....

Maybe we shold look for the logs first ...
NerfHerder
The logs would mosty likely be accessible from the bridge. Do you think it wise to venture all that way? It may not be an issue of what they were hauling, but who was aboard.

fistandantilus4.0
Well whatever it was is apparently still here. We shoudl get this over with,

<< Captain we should get moving soon. We've found the junction section. Can you make sure our egress is secure?>>>

Daylin beings woriing on the wires.
ludomastro
A few minutes later, the wiring is done and the valve currently shows open despite being closed. A few more keystrokes on the engineering panel and the ship will be on its way to a meltdown.
fistandantilus4.0
That's got it. Let's get out of here O'olan.

Daylin quickly rises, and attempts to use his force snese for perceiving danger around them.
