So so keep this on-topic. I am wondering exactly WHAT can a NPC do if they get hit by one of these tasers? They likely can't resist 10S stun and then all the person would have to do in RL is pull the trigger on their turn every pass and keep piling it on. I have read every post in this thread and I haven't heard many good ideas.

So when you get hit with a light pistol you will most likely be able to keep going and do something the next round. Not so with a taser correct? Seems too powerful. The way it's shaping up I'd prefer a taser over a gun any day. Granted there is the range factor.

I've never had that problem with tasers but I would rule it as (if you were using the wired dart type) each dart has a designated capacitor that discharges when the dart stirkes. To shock the unlucky bloke again, you have to fire another dart into him.

That makes sense yes. They seem pretty powerful, 10S with half impact counting?

I think they're supposed to be that powerful. IRL they seem drop a grown man in his tracks fairly often. The tapes I've seen of them being demonstrated on law enforcement volunteers are pretty nasty and seem to indicated that the target isn't knocked out but the charge REALLY rings his bell. He can get to his feet but needs assistance and I can't imagine that his hand would be steady enough to fire a weapon w/ any accuracy (hence the TN mods in SR).

But those are PR tapes. Anyone w/ RL experience want to back/refute me?

Agreed, tasers are powerful. As a note, electrical insulation is only Rating x 200¥ with a max equal to the max armor rating. So, typical light security armor of 6/4 can take 6 points of Noconductive at 1,200¥ compared to the cost of the armor (7,500¥), and then a point more in the helmet. And that isn't halved.

i think it'd make more sense to lower the damage of the attack (M or even L would be plenty) and raise the TN mods, and clarify that the TN mods apply to attempts to stand up after getting knocked down by the taser. but, eh. whichever.

I hear a rumor about a 4th edition...maybe that's one of the things that will be adressed...
