Full Version: Echoes of the Crash

I was reading Echoes of the Crash by Ancient History, and I liked the idea of an essay like this. However, there are many things about this piece that are really unclear, and I would lilke to get some input from all of you, especially Ancient History, in order to clear up some of the vagueness, as I was thinking of writing a similar essay, but more focussed on the Crash of '29, than on all the things around it.

1) Did Lucien Cross really start out at Acquisition Technologies? Which canon piece supports this?
2) Did Lucien Cross really help out in the nano-second buyout? Which canon piece supports this?
3) "The CCC, which later became Die Shockwellenrieter, was also involved [in fighting the Crash Virus]." Who are the CCC? Is this a reference to the Chaos Computer Club? Is this also supported by canon material?
4) In which piece of canon material is Halberstam's connection to Dr. Hikita described?

...actually, to sum everything up; is there anyway to trace any of these "facts" to canon material? If so, then I can do my own research and write my own essay, more focussed, and more in-depth into each of the things Ancient touched upon.

Thanks in advance.

Okay, let's see if I can help.

Lucien Cross worked for Acquisition Companies with one David Gavilan who is revealed to be Damien Knight. This is in Blood in the Boardroom.

I think stuff on the CCC is in Target: Matrix or the Matrix sourcebook. I'm not 100% sure of that though.

Thanks, Ronin. I'm blind, apparently, because at the end of Ancient's document there's a big list of source material.

I don't GM too often but I seem to remember a Dr. Halberstam, more accuratley, Halberstam's babies in Threats (the first one). I don't know much about it as I said I don't GM too often so I haven't read it out of courtsey to our usual GM. I f he is the one you are referring to, check Threats.
Ancient History
Well, I'm glad you found the source materials section. Please let me know if you have any more questions...and I'd like to see this essay.

Don't worry, if there's anything I'll be plagarising, it will be the canon material. wink.gif
Ancient History
No, I'm just interested in what ye'll say.

By-the-by, Halberstam shows up (as I recall) in:
Virtual Realities 1.0->Threats->Corporate Download->Target Matrix

For those who just read the top halves of my pages and ignore the source material list, you're usually missing out on my humorous side and all the spiffy little facts I put there because I don't know what else to do with them.

Hey, you think the Remy in VR was the same Remy that got offed in Brainscan?
Ancient History
No. Btw, it was "Renny" from VR 1.0.
DV8
Hey Ancient, can I ask; how did you connect Halberstam to Hikita?
Ancient History
Lessee...VR1.0, p.120, lower section.

I love reading those little source footnotes personally. That's how I found out about Ares's connection to the Roswell aliens nyahnyah.gif

Back on topic: Everyything you need to know about the Crash of '29 appears in the Dragonheart Trilogy.

Hey, AH...I recall some time ago you said that if you read the trilogy, you'd award a knowlege skill rank of 1 in Sixth World...when do I get mine? nyahnyah.gif

You received it as soon as you finished the last word on the last page.
Unfortunately, we're out of certificates.

QUOTE (Abstruse)
Back on topic: Everyything you need to know about the Crash of '29 appears in the Dragonheart Trilogy.

That's not entirely true. I read through it again, right after I read Ancient's "Echos of the Crash" article, and there's a lot of stuff that's left up to speculation. Sure, Alice takes Ryan's word over Roxborough's, but who says that in that final moment where he's afraid of being killed he didn't actually tell the truth? smile.gif
Ancient History
Hence the reason I tried to stress other sources for the Crash virus.

here's a thought: between AH and the DragonHeart Trio, we get the idea that the big D is partially responsible for the Crash b/c it was caused by shadow hacker ops between one of the Big D's thinktanks and Rox. What if the Big D planned it all along? If you look at what the (meta)human race got after all was said and done, it would well be worth the loss in lives to the Wyrm. This is on the assumption that He was preparing the world for the invasion of the Horrors.

[no cannon support on this, just wild speculation]
Ancient History
Hey, don't blame me for Koke's work! I just call it as I see it!

Besides, I'm still in favor of the Gibson-esque "Aliens Broke the Matrix" theory.
